Willy2
- It seems this month there is no separate Cumulative Security Update for IE 11. I searched the MS Update catalogus website but to no avail. System setup: http://speccy.piriform.com/results/gcNzIPEjEb0B2khOOBVCHPc A discussion always stimulates the braincells !!! Willy2
- Ah. MS was a "bit late". Today I did find the "Cumulative Security Update for IE 11". It's KB 4486474 (for Windows 7). Moderators Andavari Posted February 13, 2019 Moderators Share Posted February 13, 2019 For whatever reason they feed my system the updates close to late afternoon going into the evening, when it updated the other day it was nearly mid-night. Willy2
- No, this IE 11 update (KB 4486474) won't be offered through the Windows Update mechanism. The user has to go out and actively search for this update on the Microsoft Update Catalogus website. See e.g. the 1st post in this thread. Willy2
- Actually, the update for IE 11 is included in the monthly "Roll up update" for Windows 7 (SP 1). But I always download both the update for IE 11 and the monthly rollup. Just in case I need to re-install Win7. - MS started in 2013 (2014 ??) to release a "Cumulative Security Updates for IE 11" every month. That was long before MS started to issue "Monthly Rollup Updates" (mid 2016 ?). Is that what "cumulative" means in reference to IE 11 security only updates ? Asking because I wish to limit the number of files I must copy & save on the win 7 desktop. Thanks. Moderators nukecad Posted February 19, 2019 Moderators Share Posted February 19, 2019 A 'Cumulative Update' means that while it includes some earlier updates it will check to see what has already been installed and then only install anything new that you don't already have. eg. For Windows 10 a cumulitive update will include all updates for that particular version (eg. 1803, or 1809) since it was released, but will check and only install any that you don't aready have. It means you are only downloading/installing updates you don't already have. By contrast a 'Simple Update' doesn't check and just installs (re-installs?) everything that is in that update. *** Out of Beer Error ->->-> Recovering Memory *** Worried about 'Tracking Files'? login123
Thanks, nukecad. I will soon start using as my main OS the latest obsolete version of windows, win 7. So I just have to install the last cumulative security only update for ie 11, right? Moderators nukecad Posted February 19, 2019 Moderators Share Posted February 19, 2019 Not entirely sure how they work with Win 7. It's been around a long time so that would be a massive Cumulative Update if it included everything for the OS since it was launched? Of course if it's just a CU for ie11 (and only the security patches) then it's not that bad. With Win 10 there is a new version about every six months, and so never much more than six months Cumulative Updates for the whole OS. *** Out of Beer Error ->->-> Recovering Memory *** Worried about 'Tracking Files'? Mrs Jones
My CCleaner desktop shortcut icon showed inexplicable signs of corruption this morning and, after a bit of research, led to my finding this thread. Accordingly, I downloaded the Win7 KB4088835 cumulative update, reinstalled CCleaner Professional, and everything now works fine. Thanks, y'all. Willy2
@Mrs. Jones: - With this kind of problems I would recommend to run Tweaking's Windows Repair. it can fix a whole range of things in Windows. I am not convinced that an IE 11 update would have fixed your problem. - After Installing the latest Internet Explorer 11 Cumulative Update Windows Update recommended one general and one "Stack Update" patch. i can't figure out why and how this happened and if this is IE 11 related. I am sure there is a clear logic behind all this but I can't see what the logic is supposed to be. Willy2
- In the previous post, I confused the date of the articles with the date of release of the updates. And then the info in the articles start to make sense. - The "Microsoft Update Catalogue" website says that KB 4498206 was released on May 11, 2019. But KB 4505050 was issued on May 18, 2019. Moderators Nergal Posted June 3, 2019 Moderators Share Posted June 3, 2019 Quote Except for Internet Explorer 11 on Windows Server 2012, the fixes included in this security update for Internet Explorer (KB4498206) are also included in the May 2019 monthly security and quality rollup. The fixes listed here will be installed when you install the security update for Internet Explorer or the monthly security and quality rollup. And Quote With the exception of Internet Explorer 11 on Windows Server 2012, this security update for Internet Explorer does not apply to installation on a computer that has the monthly security and quality rollup or monthly quality rollup preview of May 2019 (or any later month) already installed because these fixes already contain all fixes from this security update for Internet Explorer.
