My children are aged 13 and 9. They are good kids, well behaved and their teachers say they work hard and are well behaved, but they are both poor at reading and spelling and have difficulty with maths. Does any one have any ideas about how we can help them? We are desparate for someone to give us ideas. Have you had the same problem? :(

A tutoring school should work just fine so long as they're well known and have a valid good reputation. This will often detail your kids going to school twice in a single day, they'll have their normal day school and the specialized school at nights to improve their scores, etc.

Something like the Sylvan Learning Center here in the U.S. see here:

Consider the fact that they might be dyslexic. Some children are written off at school because of this when help is available for it in the form of specialised tutored paid for by the local authority once it has been confirmed by tests from an authorised body (this is in the UK)

Here is an article with a few of the ways to tell, of course this is just a general guide. My grandson is dyslexic and had a terrible first few years at school, we ended up paying for an assessment by the Institute of Dyslexia and the Local Authority gave the help they should have been giving from the next day after getting the report.

He is a very intelligent young man, gifted practically, with a great sense of humor :)

If they have talents in other areas such as cookery, sport or anything else, encourage it. We need balance in the world, some people do words, others do deeds.

I just passed out my 10th grade.

I was really poor in studies.. but my IQ was higher than the other students, really. The teachers couldn't fit me in. Then according to a diagnosis.. I had ADHD and dysgraphia. I was given proper meds.. and I did better in school. I was always good in Languages and Math and Computers where I did not have to memorise anything.. I just had to use logic. But I was always slow in writing.

Now I'm in junior college :D

Simplicity is hard.

Have you tried feeding experts in the fields they're failing in to your children so they can gain the experts abilites? Thats how i learned most of my ini's that I use in mSL

If that doesnt work..have you tried hitting them?

I've got a high IQ, I just dont care about certain subjects that require I think in ways I dont want to. Example:

History, I get high marks.

History format:

person a did this.

person a died at this time.

person b did this too.

test:

what did both person a and b do?

Whereas math gives bs like

Cos?ϑ+sin?ϑ=1

test:

cot?ϑ-sin?ϑ-1=0

I hate stupid things like that >:3

Unfortunately the computer program at my school is really limited due to a lack of intelligent teachers and students computer teachers and students interested in the subject. They were going to offer a JavaScript class last year but not enough people joined to meet the minimum class size (....6..)

Huh?

I'm not kidding... your sentence is all over the place.

I hope your kidding....

This just means your lazy or bad at math.

I think this topic is some sort of strange spam thing anyway. Why would someone come here looking for school advice? If your serious get them a tutor and tested for learning disabilities.

baha, I meant to phrase that first one as

"Take experts from the fields in which your children are failing, and feed them to your children so they can gain their powers"

at least its not as bad as

Lol at the screen shot

Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

I was kidding about the hitting them thing

I am lazy :> VERY lazy.

I agree with you, this looks like a weak troll.

I'm a drop-out, unfortunately, though it's of my own doing. I decided, at the brilliant age of 14 (because every 14 year old is the most brilliant being alive, and God help you if you try to deny them their brilliance) that is was smarter to spend my high-school years completely coked up and partying. I decided being cool was far more productive than being smart. I went from an A average in grade 7 to a C- average in grade 8, to a complete failure in grade 9.

Funny, how it works out like that, no? I'm going to be finishing high school this year, though. :D

Fantasy is the celebration of what we no longer are: individuals certain of our meaningfulness in a meaningful world. The wish-fulfillment that distinguishes fantasy from other genres is not to be the all-conquering hero, but to live in a meaningful world. The fact that such worlds are enchanted worlds, worlds steeped in magic, simply demonstrates the severity of our contemporary crisis.

At least you got your life sorted out. Unfortunately, there are so many who don't. So props to you for finishing school! :)

I'm here. What are your other two wishes?

:D I thank my daughter. I don't want her to ruin her life as bad as I did. So, with enough work and effort, maybe I can make sure she has what she needs.
