  1. I take it that you bought one subscription/licence for each machine? Are you saying that one of them has expired after only a month? It would be cheaper for you to have a Pro-Plus licence which covers up to 3 computers at once. (And also licences the pro versions of Defraggler, Speccy and Recuva if you want to use those). Pro Plus is less than the cost of 2 individual subscriptions, (and works out even cheaper for a 2-year subscription). As you seem to have one licence still active then you should contact support to talk about your best option for moving to a Pro Plus licence. If one of your purchased licences has expired after only a month then they can sort that out as well. There is a contact form here: https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/requests/new Or you can email them: support@ccleaner.com EDIT- One of the other moderators has already flagged to the staff the potential issue of the licence expiring after only a month.
  2. Are you using CCleaner Free or Pro version? You need Pro for those two to work, and if there is nothing that needs changing or updating then they will simply say zero found.
  3. Simply download/install the free version and then go to Options>About and click on 'Upgrade to Pro'. Enter your key and name into the boxes that come up and click 'Register'.
  4. I'm not sure why you seem to have an aversion to having your machine checked out for free by an expert? They can rule out any malware, they can rule out any Windows installation problems, they can rule out any hardware problems, ...... What's to loose, apart from a bit of time? Nobody else is reporting a problem with the CC icon disappearing from the System Tray when a browser is closed, - and believe us if it was a bug in CCleaner there would be many shouting on this forum. So it would seem something specific to your particular machine that is at issue.
  5. Webroot secureanywhere for PC is now at version 9.0.28.48, the release notes just say 'Bug Fixes'. https://www.webroot.com/gb/en/support/support-consumer-release-notes Not all Webroot users may have got the update automatically yet, they roll them out over time. It may be worth updating your Webroot manually to see if that solves the problem? If not then I'd try temporarily turning off or disabling Webroot to see if Health Check will run with it turned off. It may make no difference but AVs can often cause a problem like this and so ruling them out is a good first step to try. PS. Does Custom Clean run alright? (I see that you have it set as the default).
  6. I strongly suggest that you get your machine checked out, it does sound as if you may have picked up malware from somewhere. One of the things that some malwares will (try to) do is to stop cleaning tools, including those built into browsers as standard, from running and removing the malware's own logfiles/spyfiles/rouge registry entries. They will also try to stop your AV from working correctly. If any of those types of applications are behaving strangely, especially if multiple ones are as yours seem to be, then it's an indication that your machine may be infected.
  7. What Windows version are you using? What CCleaner version? And what Antivirus? It could help if you tell us a bit more about what happens. Is as soon as you click the Health Check button, when you click 'Skip to run Health Check' , in the middle of a scan, or something else? Do you get any error message on screen? Screenshot posted in that screencast link, to save others having to open it:
  8. OK, as various things are being affected, and not just CCleaner, then I think it's time to get your machine thoroughly checked out. We are not allowed by the forum rules to do that on here, but can point you to expert free help. Go to one of the websites listed in chapter 10 of the forum rules. https://community.ccleaner.com/announcement/15-forum-rules/ They all have experts who specialse malware removal, but will check a computer thoroughly for other problems as well, they will take you through things step-by-step. They will ask you to run certain tools and provide them with logs so they can see just what is going on with your machine. Be sure to do what they say, and only what they say, until they give you the all clear. Only use one help/removal service at once, trying to use 2 at once will screw things up. (The same guys work on more than one of those sites). I recommend Malwarebytes, but the choice is yours and there are another 5 listed, if you choose Malwarebytes then start here: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/9573-im-infected-what-do-i-do-now/ They will use the logs to track down just what the problem is and fix it for you. Please let us know how it goes, and just what the issue was.
  9. We often see a first poster never come back, usually because the first answer makes them realise that their problem wasn't what they though at all and/or they were doing something wrong. (From the date of the first one here I suspect that it was an AV, Trend or McAfee, removing the new CCleaner version until the AV got definition updates, once the AV was fixed the poster had no need to come back). Your is much more specific, and frankly pretty odd. I can't think of any reason why having the TaskManager (or anything else) window open or not should affect CCleaner (or anything else) running. You say that Firefox is also behaving oddly? Things running once and then not again often indicate that an AV is interfering to stop the later runs. Could I suggest temporaraily disabling your McAfee and seing if that behaviour changes? If not then it does sound more like a Windows problem (or possibly even a malware infection) than a CCleaner problem, espicially with what you report about opening closing things. If disabling the AV doesn't change anything then come back and we can point you to where someone will give a thorough check of your machine for malware, Windows problems, or other hardware/driver problems for free.
  10. Your screenshots of task manager don't show anything CCleaner related, apart from CCleaner Browser Crash Handler running two instances. I'm intruiged by your mention of Firefox though, what is happening with that? It may indicate that there is something deeper going on. You are the only one reporting these oddities, which makes it more likely that it's something with your particular machine. Hopefully with a bit of patience, and maybe some testing, we can sort out just what the issue may be. It does sound like the update to 1909 has changed something; your jump from 1709 to 1909 was a big one, 4 Windows versions.
  11. From you saying that CCleaner "disappears when a browser closes" I was thinking the same as Dave about it being settings that you have set in CCleaner itself. I was thinking that it may be a combination of having both Smart Cleaner set to clean a browser on closing, and having 'Close program after a Custom Clean' set at the same time. So I ran a test trying that particular combination of CCleaner settings on my Windows 1909 laptop. The CCleaner icon was showing in the system tray as expected with Smart Cleaning active. On closing the browser the CCleaner icon started flashing to show that it was cleaning the browser files. The CCleaner icon then disappeared from the system tray, just as you describe. - But CCleaner hadn't closed and Smart Cleaning was still active. All that had happened was that following the browser cleaning Windows had simply moved the icon into the system tray 'overflow' area, accessed from the up-arrow on the tray. Could this be the behaviour that you are seeing? (I can't remember if 1709 had the system tray 'overflow' area). More info: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/30031/windows-10-customize-taskbar-notification-area
  12. Sometimes a process in a browser, or other app, can get stuck open and can't be closed normally for some reason. Try opening Task Manager, click on CCleaner Browser in there and 'End Task' on it to force it to close. Do it for all instances of CCleaner browser that may be showing there. Or restarting (not shutdown/reboot) your machine should do the same job.
  13. I'd say that it's probably CCleaner clearing the thumbnails from IE11. But it may be Internet Explore itself that is not displaying them for some reason. In CCleaner are you running Health Check or Custom Clean? EDIT, it may also be a craigslist setting, did you run the Registry Cleaner in CCleaner?
  14. That does sound like either a Windows or McAfee Issue. It sounds as if one or the other is removing CCleaner. Windows 10 will remove older versions of CCleaner that are not compatible with changes which get later made to Windows 10 in one of the Windows Updates. That shouldn't affect CCleaner v5.66 though. McAfee was know to sometimes mistakenly remove CCleaner v5.66 in the first few days after v5.66 was released. So I'd check that your McAfee is the latest version. Note that you should not just 'check for updates' in the AV itself, but go to the website to see if there is a later version than what you are using. Sometime 'check for updates' will only check for definitions and not updates to the AV version. Some AV's/AM's even have two different buttons, in different places, to click and check - one for definition updates and one for version updates. (We saw that with a different popular antivirus where it would tell users that they were 'up-to-date' when in fact their version was one, or even two, years out of date, updating from the AV's website rather than just 'check for updates' corrected the issue). The next feature update to Windows 10 (Windows 10 v2004) is due to be released to users in the next 6 days or so, that may also make a difference.
  15. It sounds as if Recuva is having difficulty if/when you have both SSD and HDD drives. That may be because they are different types of drive/filesystem, or it may simply be that Recuva doesn't recognise that particular make/model of drive? Or it may be something else entirely. Did you send the crash report which can help the devs spot just what the problem may be?
  16. You do not have to pay for CCleaner version updates, there is just a yearly subscription for the Professional version features and premium support by email. Once you have paid for a subscription and registered your key then you can go to Options>Update and set CCleaner to 'Apply these updates automatically' for regular Product version updates. (and also for 'Important Updates', which are very rare). Alternatively you can have it set to 'Perform these updates manually' so that you apply the update yourself at a time to suit you. You can even just go to the CCleaner download webpage and simply download/install the latest free version, - when you install that free version it will recognise that you already have a Pro version with a valid licence key and so will install as the latest, updated, Pro version (at no further cost). If you have paid for more than one licence key by mistake then you need to contact the support team, explain what has happened and they should be able to refund the extra that you have paid. You can contact them using the form here: https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/requests/new Or you can email them: support@ccleaner.com
  17. TBH it looks more like the kind of prank that a colleauge/family member might play by setting a schedule or task to launch multiple instances. If it were a programming bug in CCleaner then I'd expect to see other people shouting about it.
  18. Just to note that the ticks/unticks are only respected by Custom Clean. If you use Health Check then it does it's own thing and ignores anything that you have ticked/unticked. Looking at your screenshots I see that you have 'Cache' and 'Cookies' set to clean for EDGE (both old and new edge) but not for Chrome. That will be what is making the difference. Whether you are logged into a site or not is usually saved as a cookie, if you clear that cookie then you will be logged out. Run Ookla and then in CCleaner look at Options>Cookies for any Ookla cookies and move them to the 'Cookies to Keep' side. CCleaner will then leave them alone.
  19. I've never seen that happening before with CCleaner or anything else. If it's happening when you turn on the computer then I would check if you have multiple start up tasks scheduled. If you can use any of those CCleaners then go to Tools>Startup and check there. If you can't use CCleaner then type 'sched' into your searchbox to bring up the Windows task scheduler. To be absolutely sure that it isn't some kind of malware causing this then I suggest that you go to Malwarebytes forum and ask them to check your machine for you. They will do it for free and are very good at sorting out any problems you may be having, not just malware. Start here and follow their instructions carefully: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/9573-im-infected-what-do-i-do-now/
  20. Sorry, you are right that I didn't notice that you were using an older version of CCleaner. Easy Clean was an earlier version of Health Check, it has now had some more features added and been renamed. I totally agree that you are right that just how Health Check works, and that it doesn't respect any custom settings, is not very well explained. We have made suggestions to the Piriform staff about improving that, but in the meantime are doing the best we can to explain it on this user forum. Again I'm sorry if you feel the tone of my posts is condescending sometimes. I try to adjust the tone to suit the person who is asking the question, and their level of experience as gleaned from their question. (and any previous posts that they may have made). Often with a new user it can be difficult to judge their level of knowledge, so I tend to err on the simplistic side when answering. (I post a lot on a disability forum where some of the members will have mental health issues, which is why I tend to give simpler answers if I am not familiar with the questioner). I'd rather give too simple an answer than an answer that that the questioner can't understand. To paraphrase the old saying - You can't please all the people all of the time. All that being said - Are you still having an issue with the cleaning of Firefox history now that you have updated CCleaner?
  21. Different update checkers will have/use different lists of what software to check for updates. Whilst most updaters will check for all of the most commonly used/widely used software, some updaters will have bigger lists of what to check than others have. The updater has to check what software you have installed on your machine, then check if it's on the updaters internal list, if yes then check what version you have installed, then check if there is a newer version on the web. So it's a trade off - the more you have to check then the longer it's going to take to check them all. Software updaters don't check the whole web for updates that would take too long, they just check one (or maybe two) software distribution sites. (I believe that CCleaner checks against Filehippo for updates). No software updater can cover every single application out there, there are billions of applications on the web.
  22. I sympathise, unwanted installs can be a PITA to remove again. I got caught once myself with an unwanted Google Chrome. However the CCleaner installer offers for optional Piriform/Avast software are far from 'hidden' these days, - it's now a full page in the CCleaner installer with very clear 'Accept' and 'Decline' buttons. If/when you get an offer during a CCleaner install then you have to click one of those large buttons to continue. To get Avast AV from the CCleaner installer you would have had to click on the 'Accept' button. (Note that that does not include any Google Chrome offer, or any other of the Piriform software installers (Defraggler, Speccy, Recuva). Those still have the 'old style' offers so you have to be more careful). Any AV is deliberately difficult to uninstall, any decent AV will have self-protection to prevent malware from uninstalling or disabling them. Most AV's require a manufacturers uninstall tool/utility to remove them completely, usually this must be run in Windows Safe Mode. Here is the Avast AV uninstall utility: https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/10/ PS. You should not attempt run more than one AV at the same time, they will clash with each other. (One notable exception to this is Malwarebytes Anti-Malware which is specifically designed to run alongside other, more traditional style, AV's).
  23. Are you using Health Check? Health Check always uses it's own cleaning rules, it does not read any ticks/unticks that you have made in Custom Clean. Ticking/unticking things in Custom Clean has no effect whatsoever on what Health Check will clean. If you want more control of what is cleaned or not by using the ticks/unticks then you have to use Custom Clean. To make Custom Clean the default method that CCleaner will use go to Options>Settings and change the 'CCleaner Home Screen'.
  24. You originally posted this in an old thread, which is why you can't see any 'Monitor' - the name 'Monitoring' has been changed some time ago. Go to Options>Smart Cleaning and untick 'Enable Smart Cleaning' in the options. Once you have done that then CCleaner will no longer run in the background 'monitoring' for a build up of junk. The extra Pro features on Mac are: more control over Smart Cleaning, automatic updating, and of course the ability to raise priority support tickets direct with Piriform.
  25. Are you copying/pasting the name from the email into the box, or are you typing it in? If you are copy/pasting then make sure there is not a blank space before or after the pasted name. For your security please don't give the name in open view, - but could you also tell us if it is a one word name, or two (or more) words with a space(s)?
