  1. Is it just CCleaner that has been affected? We had a user last week report that 7 apps had stopped running following the Windows update to version 2004. After a day or so they all started working again. These days when Windows updates it downloads the needed files, but it may not install all of them for a day or so. (Especially if you turn your machine off following an update). If you leave your machine on and keep an eye on task manager following an update you can see that the system is still working/updating in the background for as much as a couple of hours afterwards.
  2. The notifications that you are getting are from 'Smart Cleaning'. (It has more options in Pro than it does in Free, which is why you are now seeing something different from before). It sounds as if you have the automatic cleaning limits set too low, and have it set to 'Automatically clean with notification'. To stop the too frequent notifications you could do one or more of: Set a higher limit so that it doesn't automatically clean as often, Turn off the notifications so that it cleans without notifying you, Turn off Smart Cleaning altogether.
  3. Simply use the form linked above to inform support of your changed email address.
  4. I've flagged this up to the staff.
  5. You will need to give more information of what you are asking about, or asking to do, for anyone to be able to help you.
  6. You need to contact support to resolve licencing issues; for privacy reasons it's not something that we can do on the open forum. There is a contact form here: https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/requests/new Or you can email them: support@ccleaner.com
  7. If you mean that you want to copy your CCleaner Custom settings to another device: Save your settings as an .ini file (ccleaner.ini) and then copy that file to the CCleaner folder on the second device.
  8. @wellington Is there a reason why you are posting in such a large font? (On a forum it's the equivalent of shouting all the time, and considered impolite).
  9. Good to hear that it sorted itself out. Computers can work in strange ways at times. It does sound like it was a problem with Windows 10 and booting into safe mode helped Windows recognise something was wrong and fix it. Win 10 is much better at fixing itself that than older Windows versions were.
  10. From what you say then it is possibly the registry cleaner that has removed needed entries. Although nobody else has reported a similar problen with v5.67. You should not be running the registry cleaner regularly, especially not with Windows 10. Registry Cleaning has it's uses when trying to fix a machine that is already broken, but it will not save more than a few KB of space or 'speed-up' a working machine in any way. Here is what Microsoft have to say about using a registry cleaner, ie don't use a registry cleaner. https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/2563254/microsoft-support-policy-for-the-use-of-registry-cleaning-utilities To your problems. You seem to have done/tried everything right up to now, except maybe doing a Restart (not shutdown-reboot) after uninstalling the problem apps and before reinstalling them? First the 'Windows cannot find' File Explorer problem. Sometimes simply changing an option in File Explore will fix that 'Windows cannot find' error. (It seems to be a glitch in File Explorer itself and just switching the option fixes it). Open File Explorer and click the Options button on the right of the toolbar. That should bring up the 'Folder Options' dialogue open at the 'General' tab. Change 'Open File Explorer to:' from whichever option it is on to the other option. ('Quick Access' or 'This PC'). You can change it back again later if wanted. Click 'Apply' click 'OK'. Reboot and see if your apps will launch now If not then try fix #2 "Re-register Windows 10 apps" as detailed here: https://windowsreport.com/fix-windows-cannot-find-type-name-correctly/ Note that to re-register the apps for all user accounts then modify the string that you input into Powershell by adding '-AllUsers' as below: Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"} I doubt that you have a malware, if there was malware in CCleaner v5.67 then millions of users would be shouting about it by now. (Me among them).
  11. You had deleted your backups as well? I may be overcautious but I make at least 2 backups of important stuff to different removable drives. A backup drive can fail just like any other drive. If It's really important then I'll give one copy to a trusted friend to keep for me, so whatever happens at home there is still a safe copy. These days it's easy to have your stuff backed up 'off site', everyone from banks, to your email provider, to your browser, is offering cloud storage often for free. (If you trust then not to be hacked that is).
  12. Translation: You should not remove duplicate files from either of those locations, those duplicates may be needed and removing them could cause some apps or even your whole computer to stop working properly. Only remove duplicates of your own files - photos, music, documents, etc. I'm not sure what you mean by 'Integrity Check'?
  13. From your description I would guess that Recuva has found and restored the thumbnails of the photos rather than the photo files themselves. It's quite possible that the actual photo files have been overwritten with something else and so they can't be recovered, whereas the thumbnails which are stored elsewhere can still be recovered. Someone more familiar with Recuva may have further insights, and maybe suggestions on how to get the actual photos if they are at all still recoverable at all.
  14. The alert box says that the search has completed. (and found nothing). What parameters did you have set for the search? ie. Can you give us a screenshot of the Duplicate Finder screen before you clicked on Search.
  15. @1bit I've answered with an explanation of why Defraggler may actually fragment some files on the other thread that you made. Basically it's because the mode you are using with Defreggler is used to consolidate files and not to defragment files. Consolidating files on a disk to save disk space is often wrongly referred to as defragmenting, (even by Defraggler) see my link in your other thread.
  16. @1bit It depends on whether you are using Defraggler to defrag file or to consolidate files. Defraggler can do either depending on just how it is used. (and confusingly Defraggler, like many other defraggers, calls them both defragmenting). See this for an explanation of the difference and how to use Defraggler to do either one:
  17. Could you give more details of just what you are seeing? Also: Are you using Health Check or Custom Clean? Which Windows version are you using? Which Anti-virus are you using? Note that if you have your Chrome synced then anything that CCleaner removes from your machine will be put back again by the syncing. See this for why files may come back after cleaning: https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/52668-tracking-files/?tab=comments#comment-300043
  18. CCleaner will only clean the standard locations for files, unless you tell it otherwise. It will still clear the standard location(s) as well, unless you tell it not to. To do either an 'Include' (or an' Exclude') like this then you have to use Custom Clean, - Health Check will only ever clean it's own list of locations and you can't change that list. In Custom Clean go to Options>Inlcude>Add and add the path(s) or files that you want to clean. For example this entry would clear any/all language files from CCleaner's language sub-directory everytime you run Custom Clean. As well as whole directories the 'Add' gives options to Include individual files, and/or files with a particular extension. Other Add options let you set files only or files and sub-directories, and only delete older files. Exclude works in the same way for things that you want Custom Clean to ignore. PS. Firefox has a number of cache files ususally in ..\appdata\local\{profile Id}\... ...\cache2\*.* ...\cache2\doomed\*.* ...\cache2\entries\*.* So tell Include to clean files and subdirectories of Cache2, or add each one individually as listed there. EDIT - I forgot to add that you also have to tick 'Custom Fies and Folders' for your Includes to be cleaned. See: https://www.ccleaner.com/docs/ccleaner/using-ccleaner/including-files-and-folders-for-cleaning
  19. I don't believe so. You see a similar warning with some browsers in Windows. They pre-load processes, or continue running background processes after you have closed the browser. Which means that to clean them CCleaner has to stop whatever process is running, and it asks you first before stopping them.
  20. About all I can think of extra at the moment is to make sure that Norton is up to date, from the Norton website not just from within itself. We saw an issue back in April/May where some AV's were blocking CCleaner from installing or running. It seems that with covid-19 lockdowns the AV's were slow to update their definitions for new CCleaner versions. But even more confusing was that at least one, Trend Micro, would report that it was up to date when a user clicked 'Check for Updates', but it was the 2018/2019 version that was 'up to date'. When those users went to the Trend website and updated to the 2020 version from the site then the block on CCleaner stopped happening for them. PS. Looking at this I've only just noticed that there are two versions of Norton 360 in use out there, - the older Norton 360™ and the newer Norton™ 360 released last year. I don't know if that would make any difference to blocking CCleaner? https://uk.norton.com/360 For real time protection I use Defender, along with Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit stand alone (not the full Malwarebytes4), and Malwarebytes Browser Guard for Firefox. All free and as much protection as most will need. Then I'll run a weekly scan with the full Malwarebytes4 (free) just as a double check.
  21. The 'Helper tool' is Apple's way of trying to push you to only use apps from their app store, (so they get a cut of any price paid?), it affects most 3rd party software not from the store. If a 3rd party app needs Administrator access to run then you will see that message, and have to put in your password to confirm that you have admin rights. It's the equivalent of the 'User Account Control' in Windows (but Windows doesn't ask for a password, you just click a button). Here's an example from another app (Malwarebytes): Unfortunately although CCleaner can be set not to show the UAC in Windows it can't do the same for MAC's Helper Tool, it's a restriction of the MAC OS. The double password thing with Safari is also a requirement of the Mac OS, since El Capitan, if you want to thoroughly clean Safari then I'm afraid it is what it is. See this for an explanation from the support team:
  22. It's working fine on Win10 2004 here, but Personal Computers are, well personalised, and it may be that the Windows Update has changed a setting on yours that it didn't change on mine? Are you getting any error message when trying to install CCleaner? As this was following a Windows update then I'd check that Settings>apps>'Choose where to get apps' has not been set to only allow installing apps from the MS store. (I've seen an update change that one before). With failed install issues we usually suggest downloading the 'Slim' installer from here and seeing if that will install sucessfully: https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds If the Slim installer still won't install CCleaner then try the suggestions in the following thread: https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/5739-solution-when-ccleaner-wont-install-or-download-windows/ Note in those tips the distinction between 'Reboot' and 'Restart'. (With Win 10 a restart actually clears more than a shutdown and reboot).
  23. Good to hear that you found them and got your workspace back. I suspect that there was a reg entry redirecting from Roaming to Local (or vice-versa) and the Registry Cleaner didn't recognise it and so deleted it. We don't recommend running any Reg Cleaner on a regular basis, especially not with Windows 10. Reg Cleaners do have their uses to help fix a 'broken' computer - But they won't save more than a few KB of space or 'speed up' you machine. Here is what Microsoft has to say about using them (basically don't use them): https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/2563254/microsoft-support-policy-for-the-use-of-registry-cleaning-utilities EDIT. One thing to bear in mind is that next time you update OpenRefine it may re-create that registry entry and redirect the directory paths again.
  24. OK running the Registry Cleaner may have lost some kind of link to the workspace directories. As you made a backup then you should be able to try restoring the deleted registry entries. But first I would check if the data is still there. The OpenRefine backup page gives a list of the directories where that data may be depending on your Windows version. https://github.com/OpenRefine/OpenRefine/wiki/Back-Up-OpenRefine-Data If the data is still somewhere in one of those directories then try restoring your registry backup. Simply find the .reg file (usually in your documents folder), right click on it, and select 'Merge' to restore the entries. https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/faq/using/how-do-i-restore-registry-backups Let us know how it goes.
