  1. Windows 10 2004 is now fully released to Market and rolling out. I've just installed it and am using it now. It is not being rolled out as an Automatic Update yet, it's only available if you 'Check for Updates' - but they are 'throttling' distribution so it may not be offered to you yet. It wasn't being offered by 'Check for Updates' on my laptop, but I got round that by downloading the Windows 10 Update Assistant and running that. More of a 'reinstall, keeping files and apps' than an upgrade, so it does take longer to upgrade that way, and some of your customised settings will be lost. If you are not sure about using Upgrade Assistant to shortcut things then wait until the upgrade is offered to you by Microsoft.
  2. It won't harm CCleaner to reset to defaults everyday. (We do stuff like that all the time when trying to replicate a users problem). But you shouldn't really have to, if you don't tick the 'Do not show me this message again' box then it should show every time it's needed. The fact that it's still asking to close Edge, especially to Force close it, indicates that something in your Edge is still not closing (properly), probably extensions or push notifications. See this for how to stop extensions, etc. from running in the background after you close Edge Chrome: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-prevent-new-microsoft-edge-running-background-windows-10 PS. The new Windows 10 2004 has now been fully released, but you have to 'Check for Updates' (or use the Upgrade Assistant) to get it, its not an Automatic Update yet. I've just installed it and haven't had time for a good look round yet. No doubt we will now start getting issues related to what MS have changed this time.
  3. OK, if neither installer is installing CCleaner then that sounds similar to the AV false positive issues from earlier this month; which AntiVirus/AntiMalware are you running? PS. Did you also have v5.66 on the old drive?
  4. Try using the 'Slim' installer from here (3rd down): https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds Often that particular installer will work better with Windows 7.
  5. I have the new Edge Chrome installed on this laptop but it doesn't start at boot, it doesn't even appear in the Startup apps (or in Task Manager Start-up tab). You may also have it as a shortcut in your StartUp folder, in which case it would still start even when disabled in Startup apps. Any app that you put a shortcut for in that folder will run at startup, regardless of the other startup settings. Try a read of this: https://kb.iu.edu/d/adlf Another question - Is your Edge Chrome the latest version, 83.0.478.37, which was released last week? It's being rolled out slowly so you might not have it yet. As it was only fully released last week then CCleaner may not be up to date for this new Edge version yet. PS. To manually update Edge Chrome go to Settings>Apps and click on Microsoft Edge and then Modify. Edge 83 info: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/microsoft-edge-83-released-with-extension-sync-and-auto-profiles/ Restoring the whole system is a bit drastic, although if nothing else is solving the issue it may be an idea to uninstall/reinstall Edge Chrome. (Note if you uninstall Edge Chrome then old Edge will be re-enabled until you install Edge Chrome again).
  6. Sorry, I didn't talk about the slowness which is your main issue. Here are few things to look at: When CC browser is running how much CPU percentage does task manager say it is using overall? (see below). Are you only seeing a slowdown when using CCleaner browser? What is the speed like if you Close CC browser then open exactly the same webpages in 'old' Edge or the new Edge Chromium? (If you have those on your Win 7) or Internet Explorer? How much of the CPU are they using? With CCleaner browser closed check the task manager to see if something else is using a lot of CPU or disk access. Many things can cause a computer to run slowly, for example: Webpages with lots of video or frequently updated content can slow things down. A slow internet connection for some reason. Something running in the background. (You AV or Windows Defender running a background scan, Windows Update, Windows Defragmenter, etc.,etc.). Not forgetting the age of the computer itself, programmers can tend to use all the features of newer hardware and so older CPU's and graphic chips may struggle to run with newer apps. To give an example of how a particular webpage can slow things down- This is Firefox not CC browser, but it gives the idea and you can see here that as I was typing this it was using a total of 9.2% CPU in six processes. If I then open a new tab and start to play a video in Youtube Firefox will open another 2 processes and the CPU usage will jump up to 48.5%, it also starts accessing the internet to stream.
  7. I believe that Microsoft can "tweak"/update Edge Chrome on a daily basis, so they may have changed something themselves? If it's in the startup apps then yes, that would mean it is starting up at boot. Just to be sure here - We are talking about the new Edge Chromium and not the old Edge aren't we? They are very different browsers 'under the hood'. If it's Edge Chrome then another thing to try is disabling any Extensions (add-ons) that you may have, and the seeing if CCleaner will clean it then. Some extensions can be set to continue running in the background when Edge Chrome itself is closed. (Or it could simply be a bad extension that isn't closing properly).
  8. Multiple processes showing in Task Manager are normal for a Chrome/Chromium browser. (and Firefox browser as well). Components are opened as separate processes so that if one, say a webpage or an extension, crashes then it doesn't crash the whole browser. Whether you see them all or just see one entry depends on if you have expanded the entry or not. See the screenshot in the first post here which shows the Chrome processes expanded: (If the list wasn't expanded it would just show the first line (with the arrow turned 90 degrees), ie. "> Google Chrome (33)" https://support.google.com/chrome/thread/2064254?hl=en (PS. CCleaner64.exe is the cleaner not the browser. It will be showing after a boot because you have 'Smart Cleaning' enabled).
  9. The Pro and Free versions use exactly the same cleaning routines, so purchasing Pro will not make any difference to 'Skipping' a browser. If CCleaner is actually saying 'Skipped' then that indicates that the browser is still open, or that some component of it is still active in the background. CCleaner cannot clean a browser that is (partally) open. If you have closed the browser then you can check in Task Manager to see if (some part of) the browser is still active in the background, (and if so 'End Task' to fully close it).
  10. Yes, CCleaner is fine, and the attack 3 years ago wasn't realy anything that affected any home, or small business, user. Analysis has shown that the trojan was actually highly targeted at 18 large IT corporations - think Microsoft, Intel, Google, Sony, Samsung, etc. It's now regarded that it was a State (government) Sponsored attempt to steal technology from those companies. Tthe State that did it had no interest at all in any other users. The first stage that got widely distributed did nothing except to check if it was on a machine at one of those companies. If it wasn't at one of those companies then it did nothing else at all. If it was at one of those companies then it 'phoned home' and tried to download a second stage, only 40 machines at those big companies worldwide actualy got that second stage delivered. Just 40 machines worldwide shows how highly specific it was. You can see a list of the companies that actually got the second stage (and more technical details) in this article from 2017: https://blog.avast.com/additional-information-regarding-the-recent-ccleaner-apt-security-incident If you do somehow manage to get a copy of the CCleaner version installer that was affected three years ago (which won't be easy to get hold of) then any Antivirus programme will recognise and quarantine it even though it is no longer regarded as any threat for a regular user.
  11. If you can post then as screenshots or attachments on here, then that will let others see them (who may have suggestions about what your issue could be). I use the built in Windows snipping tool, which puts your 'snip' into the clipboard so you can simply paste it into a post here. If anything contains personal details (an error message shouldn't do) then don't post it in plain view and by all means PM it to me. The private messaging is accessed through the envelope icon top right of the page. How about my questions re Custom Clean running or not, and what happens if you temporarily disable Webroot?

    Donate?

Thanks for the feedback. This is a 10 year old thread so it's not surprising that things have changed a bit. Back then Piriform products were donationware, there were no licenced Pro versions. Since licences were introduced in 2011, and changed to subscription licences in 2018, that licencing has been funding development rather than relying on donations. I have found a later donations link from 2017, but that also now gives a 404 'page not found' error. Of course the easiest way to show financial appreciation/support (and get some extra features) would be to purchase a Pro version licence/subscription. I realise that, whilst it's not that expensive, some people may not feel able to afford the Pro version. In which case please continue to use and enjoy the free version, that's why the free versions of Piriform software are still available. I'll ask the staff what happened to the donations page, but I'm guessing that it was rarely used anymore and so was removed.
  13. You can do it for all new content - with a bit of setting up work. But it's probably easier just to visit the forum regularly and look at 'Unread Content'. You can 'follow' a particular forum, a particular topic, (or even a user), - you can then set your 'notifications' to send you an email when new content is posted to something that you are following. You will see a 'Follow' button at the top right of each forum or topic. Once you are following things then you can set how you get a notification of new content in whatever you are following. Click the down-arrow next to your username at the top right and see 'Account Settings'>'Notification Settings' to set up email notifications. Also see 'Manage Followed Content' in that drop-down. You can set instant emails for new content in each forum/thread that you are following, or daily/weekly emails of all new content in each forum/thread that you are following So if you set it up to 'Follow' every forum then you can get email notification of everything new posted.
  14. I'm not sure what suggestion you are asking for, from what you have described so far nothing seems to be wrong. SPEED checks your Windows startup to see if it's loading anything at startup that is not needed, which would slow down your computers boot time. If there is nothing doing that and slowing down your boot time then SPEED will show zero found. SECURITY checks if (certain) apps that you have installed have a later version available. If you do not have those apps, or if there are no updates available, then that will also show zero found. If something has changed with the startup, or if there is an app that needs updating then they will say so, and will make the change/update when you click 'Make it Better'. Those 2 Health Check areas showing zero is not anything wrong, in fact it's quite the opposite. - It's showing that those two areas are fine. Those areas will always show zero unless Health Check finds something that needs reviewing or updating. If you mean that yours are showing something else then please describe what you are seeing, or post a screenshot like that one. PS. If you want to double check just what those 2 Health Check areas are looking at then click on 'Tools', and then: Startup - Will show you what Health Check SPEED looks at. Software Updater>Up-to-date Programmes - Will show you which programmes Health Check SECURITY is looking at on your machine.
  15. Thank you for that report @Andres Lara; It seems that your original post about this was overlooked for some reason? So we now have two reports of this happening (sometimes) when a browser is closed and Smart Cleaning is active to clean that browser. It seems quite specific that sometimes when Smart Cleaning is set to clean a browser on closing it is crashing, and not giving any warning that it has crashed. @Joe Liberty also reports here that it only stated happening to him after he updated to 1909, and that it doesn't happen if he has a CCleaner or TaskManager window open. That specific information should help point the developers where to look for an issue, I'll flag it up. The original post here from Doupax was a different issue. (The AV was removing that 'pinned' icon from the Task Bar, not from the system tray. The AV was removing CCleaner from the machine entirely).
  16. It is most likely a False Positive detection by ESET, it is reported as now fixed but you have to update your ESET. See here: https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/58113-mcafee-and-eset-nod32-false-postive-for-ccleaner-566-consolidated-thread/?tab=comments#comment-319103
  17. I take it that you bought one subscription/licence for each machine? Are you saying that one of them has expired after only a month? It would be cheaper for you to have a Pro-Plus licence which covers up to 3 computers at once. (And also licences the pro versions of Defraggler, Speccy and Recuva if you want to use those). Pro Plus is less than the cost of 2 individual subscriptions, (and works out even cheaper for a 2-year subscription). As you seem to have one licence still active then you should contact support to talk about your best option for moving to a Pro Plus licence. If one of your purchased licences has expired after only a month then they can sort that out as well. There is a contact form here: https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/requests/new Or you can email them: support@ccleaner.com EDIT- One of the other moderators has already flagged to the staff the potential issue of the licence expiring after only a month.
  18. Are you using CCleaner Free or Pro version? You need Pro for those two to work, and if there is nothing that needs changing or updating then they will simply say zero found.
  19. Simply download/install the free version and then go to Options>About and click on 'Upgrade to Pro'. Enter your key and name into the boxes that come up and click 'Register'.
  20. I'm not sure why you seem to have an aversion to having your machine checked out for free by an expert? They can rule out any malware, they can rule out any Windows installation problems, they can rule out any hardware problems, ...... What's to loose, apart from a bit of time? Nobody else is reporting a problem with the CC icon disappearing from the System Tray when a browser is closed, - and believe us if it was a bug in CCleaner there would be many shouting on this forum. So it would seem something specific to your particular machine that is at issue.
  21. Webroot secureanywhere for PC is now at version 9.0.28.48, the release notes just say 'Bug Fixes'. https://www.webroot.com/gb/en/support/support-consumer-release-notes Not all Webroot users may have got the update automatically yet, they roll them out over time. It may be worth updating your Webroot manually to see if that solves the problem? If not then I'd try temporarily turning off or disabling Webroot to see if Health Check will run with it turned off. It may make no difference but AVs can often cause a problem like this and so ruling them out is a good first step to try. PS. Does Custom Clean run alright? (I see that you have it set as the default).
  22. I strongly suggest that you get your machine checked out, it does sound as if you may have picked up malware from somewhere. One of the things that some malwares will (try to) do is to stop cleaning tools, including those built into browsers as standard, from running and removing the malware's own logfiles/spyfiles/rouge registry entries. They will also try to stop your AV from working correctly. If any of those types of applications are behaving strangely, especially if multiple ones are as yours seem to be, then it's an indication that your machine may be infected.
  23. What Windows version are you using? What CCleaner version? And what Antivirus? It could help if you tell us a bit more about what happens. Is as soon as you click the Health Check button, when you click 'Skip to run Health Check' , in the middle of a scan, or something else? Do you get any error message on screen? Screenshot posted in that screencast link, to save others having to open it:
  24. OK, as various things are being affected, and not just CCleaner, then I think it's time to get your machine thoroughly checked out. We are not allowed by the forum rules to do that on here, but can point you to expert free help. Go to one of the websites listed in chapter 10 of the forum rules. https://community.ccleaner.com/announcement/15-forum-rules/ They all have experts who specialse malware removal, but will check a computer thoroughly for other problems as well, they will take you through things step-by-step. They will ask you to run certain tools and provide them with logs so they can see just what is going on with your machine. Be sure to do what they say, and only what they say, until they give you the all clear. Only use one help/removal service at once, trying to use 2 at once will screw things up. (The same guys work on more than one of those sites). I recommend Malwarebytes, but the choice is yours and there are another 5 listed, if you choose Malwarebytes then start here: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/9573-im-infected-what-do-i-do-now/ They will use the logs to track down just what the problem is and fix it for you. Please let us know how it goes, and just what the issue was.
  25. We often see a first poster never come back, usually because the first answer makes them realise that their problem wasn't what they though at all and/or they were doing something wrong. (From the date of the first one here I suspect that it was an AV, Trend or McAfee, removing the new CCleaner version until the AV got definition updates, once the AV was fixed the poster had no need to come back). Your is much more specific, and frankly pretty odd. I can't think of any reason why having the TaskManager (or anything else) window open or not should affect CCleaner (or anything else) running. You say that Firefox is also behaving oddly? Things running once and then not again often indicate that an AV is interfering to stop the later runs. Could I suggest temporaraily disabling your McAfee and seing if that behaviour changes? If not then it does sound more like a Windows problem (or possibly even a malware infection) than a CCleaner problem, espicially with what you report about opening closing things. If disabling the AV doesn't change anything then come back and we can point you to where someone will give a thorough check of your machine for malware, Windows problems, or other hardware/driver problems for free.
