  1. Damn, I deleted previous system restore points.

Is there any way to collect them back ? (I have a lot of time to waste, eh)

The only ways that I'm aware of to get them back is a .reg backup file, and system restore. Do you have any system restore points from the time that you upgraded to CC v1.27?

If you don't. I wouldn't worry about it. I couldn't restore all of that, and I'm not concerned. ;)

(Although I don't use that option anymore)

  2. Good. Yeah similarly they have allot of security updates, pun intended. ;)

    Fabulous...

The only thing though is after using sfc /scannow it's a good ideal to reboot.

Yes. You should reboot, and reinstall updates. Then defrag. Hope it works!

  3. i've already answered that last question in my first post ;)

No you didn't. You said that your other registry cleaners can't find it. Did you go into your registry and look for that key?

  4. I've been warned that if you aren't very computer-savvy (which I'm certainly not!), cleaning the registry isn't the greatest of ideas--you might wind-up deleting something you need (even if you "save" your deletions, unless you know which of the deletions--out of all the multitudes you've saved--was the one you SHOULDN'T have deleted, "saving" really isn't going to do you much good, either)!

    Thanks, anyway!

You're right about 1 thing. You should learn about your registry before using a registry cleaner.

And saving does work if you do it properly. You shouldn't have many backups.

  5. Oh, I doubt that is where the problem lies. After all, I believe it was you who figured it out in the first.

    lokoike is kinda sloooooowwwww... :P

Whatever! You're not sloooowwww.... :D Maybe a smart**s though.

  6. If you run an Issues scan after removing your Hotfix uninstallers, and remove all of the listed entries, the Hotfixes will no longer be listed in Add/Remove Programs, because they can no longer be removed.

@ K: After running the cleaner function with Hotfix box checked, scan for registry issues and remove the ones related to your Hotfixes and see if they are still listed in Add/Remove Programs. They shouldn't be.

    How do you know that?

I manually deleted the uninstall folders on another computer, and rebooted. After that they were still listed in the add/remove programs list (without the option to uninstall). They were still listed. Once the the $hf_mig$ folder is gone they are no longer there.

I will test a second time to confirm. ;)

  7. if you have ccleaner remove the hotfix uninstallers, then run issues, there are a bunch of "uninstaller reference issue"s in the registry for some of the same hot fixes. can ccleaner automatically take care of those when it removes the uninstaller files? thanks, jon

Do not use the 'hotfix uninstaller option'!!! There is a bug in it. Please read the following threads, and keep yourself up-to-date/informed about any registry cleaners that you are using.

  8. Krit, you're a star. Installed the new drivers (after a 3 hour download at only 2kb/sec  ) and the direct X acceleration now stays at the level I set it at, regardless of restarts (and it also seems to have improved the crackly sound issue that started me down this road in the first place).

Thats twice in the space of a few weeks you've helped me no end, THANK YOU ;)

I am so glad that all you needed was an updated driver! :D That issue was driving me bonkers because every solution suggested before that worked on my computer.

I'm glad to have helped. Don't remember a previous time though. <_<

Have Fun!!! That's what matters! :D

  9. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

    No back up

Running Win XP Home, so able to use 'system restore' feature

No one has suggested using 'system restore' to replace the file, only a .reg backup. We need to pass that info on as a solution. Good job! :D

I'm glad that it worked. ;)

  10. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

K..Thank you also for good info you put out here for all of us

I just *restored* the whole folder and all contents (689 files and 174Mb)

Now my CCleaner Tools page again shows all the Hotfix uninstalls, and I can search and find the $hf folder , just as things were before I used CCleaner Hotfix uninstaller

You had a .reg backup I'm guessing? ;)

  11. I totally agree with K and Andavari, this really should be fixed pronto. MrG stated that he has already adjusted the code to fix it, so why not release it now?

Also K, if you download a WinUpdate, that will recreate the folder and basically fix all of your problems? Just wanted to verify, cause I haven't gotten any updates since I removed my Hotfix uninstallers, so I wanted to make sure that this is easily reversible.

It will recreate the folder, but the cache will only have that one update in it. You would have to manually reinstall each update to rebuild the cache.

  12. So all that the program does is randomly assign a different symbol with each number every time you run it!

Sorry if this was what you were trying to tell me all along, K!

I'm not very good at explaining things. I'm glad that you figured it out! ;)

  13. Ok, now poor lokoike's head really hurts.

How would it know what number it was that I had in my head? For example, lets say that I thought of the numbers 2 & 3. Together the numbers would equal 5, which subtracted from from 23 is equal to 18, which is a picture of cross. But what if I was to instead choose 6 and 7, and which added together is 13, which subtracted from 67 is 54? 54 is a picture of a flower.

The instructions tell you to choose a double digit number. If you choose a single digit number then you didn't follow the instructions.

So I could have chosen either pair of numbers, and would have received two different answers. How did this app know whether I was going to pick 2 & 3 or 6 & 7?

You aren't supposed to pick a single digit number. If you pick a single digit number, and follow the math instructions you will get a negative number.

So without any information from me, and 9 different symbols to choose from, how does it manage to give me the correct answer nearly every time? What am I missing here?[/size]

    Read post #2

By the way, I just ran it three more times to test out the numbers I mentioned above, and it was correct every time again!

I don't know an easier way to explain it. It's just a math trick! ;)

    @lokoike

The instructions give an example. "If you choose 23: 2+3=5. 23 minus 5 will give you your answer. Post #2 gives a more thorough explanation, but this test may help.

When the screen appears look at the pictures by numbers 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, 81. They all have the same picture, look at a different picture than what is associated with those numbers. The ball will get it wrong.

  14. Yeah MrG stated that a some code was changed, and I sure hope it isn't a month or two down the road, it's enough of a problem that a minor bugfix release should be uploaded pronto so that it doesn't keep causing problems.

I hope that it doesn't take that long either, but it isn't fixed as of now. I reinstalled today...same problem. :(

  15. Mr E

    Thx for reply

As noted in the thread above in Discussions Forum, the problem is a bit more involved

Sorry I did not my post question there

I was able to restore folder $hf_mig$

It contains 689 files, and 174mb

IMHO, not a good idea to allow CCleaner to uninstall that folder

MrG has agreed that the $hf_mg$ folder should not be removed, but the problem won't be fixed until the next version is released. For now, do not check the "hotfix uninstaller" box.

You only need the Hotfix uninstallers if you want to remove a hotfix.

But you do not want to remove a hotfix, because if you do your computer will no longer contain the fix which you downloaded from Windows Update so it could patch your computer against bugs and perhaps security vulnerabilities.

    Hey E,

The $hf_mig$ folder doesn't contain "hotfix uninstallers". That is the bug in the "hotfix uninstallers" option - it is removing that folder and it shouldn't. :( We need to start telling people to not check that option. Read this CCleaner thread.

    :)
