  1. After using CCleaner, Windows XP don't see my CD and DVD.

    the solution was :

erase the lower and upper key in the registry and re install easy cd creator (my burning sofware). Now it's fine, but i won't to use ccleaner wihout having any registry backup.

Here is the recommandations i followed :

    in the registry fond :

    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

In the right side, delete the keys UpperFilter and LowerFilter

in the left side find and delete, if they exist he next keys

    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdr4_2K

    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdralw2k

    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdudf

    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UdfReadr

    restart your computer.

    Thank's

    Hi Mudd,

    From Microsoft XP Resource Kit:

Error Code 41 - Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)

A driver was loaded but Windows cannot find the device. This happens when Windows does not detect a non-Plug and Play device.

If the device was removed, uninstall the driver, install the device, and then click Scan for hardware changes to reinstall the driver. If the hardware was not removed, obtain a new or updated driver for the device.

If the device is a non-Plug and Play device, a newer version of the driver might be needed. To install non-Plug and Play devices, use the Add Hardware wizard. Click Performance and Maintenance on Control Panel, click System, and on the Hardware tab, click Add Hardware Wizard.

On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooting wizard.

Even if the device was not removed, you may want to remove it and try the complete uninstall / re-install.

    From Windows XP Knowledge Base:

CD-ROM access is missing and messages cite error Code 31, Code 32, Code 19, Code 39, or Code 41 after you remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP

    1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).

    2. Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    3. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.

    4. Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    5. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.

    6. Quit Registry Editor.NOTE: After you remove the Upperfilters value and the Lowerfilters value, if you notice lost functionality in a particular program, such as CD recording software, you may need to reinstall that software. If the problem recurs, consult with the software vendor for assistance.

    7. Restart your computer.

Although this is specific to removing Easy CD Creator, others cite this as a general fix for Code 41.

As a last resort. You can do a repair installation for Windows. It will keep your programs, and files...but you you will need to reinstall all of your Microsoft Updates.

    Good luck! :)

  2. Hi Chem, and Welcome. :)

Can you provide some more information please?

    What OS are you running?

Is your user account the administrator of the computer?

What version of CCleaner are you using?

What build of CCleaner are you using?

What site did you download CCleaner from?

Have you tried running CCleaner in Safe Mode?

Note: Please DO NOT use the "hotfix uninstallers" option in CCleaner. There is a bug in it.

    Thanks,

    K

  3. Because you activated and used something in 'Cleaner->Windows->Advanced' section. I don't remember which one it is though, but I too had the Quick Launch toolbar go kaput however I restored the registry to get it back to working normally.

Yep. It's either the "Tray Notification Cache", or "Window Size/Location Cache". I don't use either of these options anymore, but one of them was making my quick launch disappear. Now my quick launch is happily in it's place. ;)

  4. Hi Jon,

I wasn't being hostile. I was being blunt because if you're going to use a reg cleaner you do need to stay informed about it.

As for the bug in the hotfix uninstaller option, we the users, don't have a control over removing it. The best that I can do is tell newbies ASAP. The threads that I posted have many Microsoft links that are not opinions, and are very informative.

If you use a System Restore point that is prior to running the hotfix uninstaller it will replace your $hf_mig$ folder.

    Good luck!

  5. Hi K

Sorry I cant help you there  , I think the NumLock button is just a keyboard feature and it wouldnt make any registry changes if its enabled or disabled.

RegSeeker had a tweak for the NumLock key. :)

  6. Microsoft has released security bulletin MS05-051. The security bulletin contains all the relevant information about the security update.

After you install this update, you may experience various problems in Microsoft Component Object Model (COM) or Microsoft COM+ applications. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

909444 Systems that have changed the default Access Control List permissions on the %windir%\registration directory may experience various problems after you install the Microsoft Security Bulletin MS05-051 for COM+ and MS DTC.

  7. Oddly, the same thing happened on my computer yesterday. The only thing that fixed it was a repair install. But I'm not good at hardware troubleshooting.

Does Winamp have a diagnostic tool? If so, I would use that.

  8. I found the solution!! (A strange solution) It was one of the following. (Not sure which one because I did them back-to-back).

    1. On my computer (host comp) I ran ipconfig /release then ran ipconfig /renew.

    2. On my computer I ran the Esentutl.exe repair tool for security\database\secedit.sdb...backed up...then rebooted.

So either I needed the ipconfig /release /renew, or a security database repair. Thanks Hazelnut and Andy. I very much appreciated your help. :)

  9. I forgot a few things. Both computers are running XP SP2, and the router is a Linksys Wireless-G 2.4GHz with a cable modem. Both computers are running eTrust Antivirus, Spybot S&D, Windows Defender, Adaware, CWShredder, Ewido, SpywareBlaster, and DSOStop2.

The wireless computer has the following 2 errors in the event viewer.

    1. Source Browser Event ID 8032

The browser service has failed to retrieve the backup list too many times on transport \Device\NwlnkNb. The backup browser is stopping.

    2. Source Browser Event ID 8021

The browser was unable to retrieve a list of servers from the browser maser \\MyComputerName on the network \Device\NwlnNb.

  10. Okay. So early yesterday morning I decided to check my router's manufacturer website for upgrades. (Bad idea :( )

I installed the one available. Now the other computer on the network cannot connect to the internet. It says that a connect is established, and excellent yet you can't access the interent.

After hours of reconfiguring over-and-over I uninstalled the router, and deleted the upgrade then rebooted. The wireless computer still can't connect to the internet, but the connection is there.

I have totally ran out of ideas. Except that I did notice that my Routing and Remote Access Service won't start. It gives the error code 340, but that code doesn't match Microsoft's KB. <_<

This seems completely ridiculous because I've done this so many times, and have never had this problem. Any ideas? :P

    Thanks in advance!

    K

  11. If only i have that little bug/problem, then fine.

I'am pretty sure that i'am not going to install Visual Basic 6 Runtimes.

    1. because this is not my Computer.

    2. I did only Clear Temp -folders/files with this great program.

I did look little bit Registry Issues, but i did not fix anything.

Because this PC seems to work, that above (Checkboxs are gone) is only problem i know, and it's a tiny one.

You should ask the computer owner to download it. It's a Microsoft download that is needed for many things. :)

  12. Oooooo! Great topic. :)

My biggest annoyance right now is that in the past month "Automatic Updates" has had 2 updates that were not compatible with my computer, and caused corruption. WTF - The MS solution is: "Don't customize your computer".

If you want the hotfix that is made to fix the problem NOW rather than when it's released you must pay.

  13. My CCleaner is v1.27.260 - Basic, and OS is WinXP Professional SP2.

After Issues search is done and if i get "No Issues were found" and then make new Issues Search and if i now find "Problems", then Checkboxs are gone and i can't unselect problems. Also Mouse context menu does not work.

Closing and Re-starting program fixes it, but it happens always again if i some point make "No Issues were found" search.

    Hi fog06,

Welcome! Try downloading/installing this, and see if that helps. I'll search around, and see if I can find anything else.

  14. Hi Nick,

I did some searching in the forum, and a lot of people have fixed that problem by unchecking automatic updates. Make sure that you do that, and update your visual basic. It should work after that. If it doesn't please post back with the error as Andy suggested.

  15. Hi Krit

I was just looking at area's of the forum which I havent checked out and saw this post :)

This batch script will create a list of installed Hotfixes on a NT Based system

Open notepad and copy the contents of the code box into it :

    regedit /e Hotfix.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Hotfix"notepad Hotfix.txt

Goto file on the top bar of Notepad and choose 'Save As' , name it anything with a .bat extention such as hotfix.bat then change the 'Save As Type' to All Files. Save it to your pc and double click it to export the Hotfix details to a text file and Automatically open with Notepad.

I dont think if its going to give any information that would help with the Ccleaner issue but it does list every Hotfix installed.

That's very helpful. Thanks for the suggestion! :)

  16. You can use System Restore if you're really worried about it. That will replace your entire folder. I personally am not worried about it. It won't expose your computer to bugs.

I'll think about hosting a folder from my other computer, but I'm not familiar with the link that you provided. Can someone tell me if it's safe (someone that I know)? If so I'll upload it for whoever wants it. But it's only for XP SP2.
