  1. You might want to block out the serial number in your post.
  2. Note in the title bar of my screen print above - Administrator: Command Prompt that I did run as Administrator. I also mentioned having opened the command window as an administrator in my earlier post.
  3. I should have mentioned that I found & tried that command format after seeing it in some Google search results. But, no joy... same result.
  4. Shouldn't these commands work from a command prompt window in Win7? Or are these commands just for WinXP? Having forgotten about this "restore points deleted" issue (duh), I lost all my restore points yesterday when I ran Defraggler. This morning, I wanted to test this workaround so I started a command window (Run as Administrator) and entered the net stop command. I got the error "The service name is invalid." C:\Windows\system32>net stop "System Restore Service" The service name is invalid. More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2185. C:\Windows\system32>net helpmsg 2185 The service name is invalid. I even got the same error using the helpmsg command. This is on my Win7 Pro x64 laptop. See Speccy in my sig.
  5. I hadn't noticed the virtual memory number until I read this topic and sure enough, my 4GB ThinkPad laptop says the same thing. But not my WinXP desktop. Check the Speccy links in my sig.
  6. I agree and have also unicked that option.
  7. I've had problems like this caused by old video drivers. See if there is an updated driver for your video card.
  8. Problem still there in v1.09.231 Correct on my WinXP x86 desktop: http://speccy.piriform.com/results/qYpiEMtwuYryX0lhqNriqC2 Incorrect on my Win7 x64 laptop: http://speccy.piriform.com/results/cqRiIdlS1Toz3O5Hyrlt3uR
  9. I'm just wondering if the HDD enclosure might have something to do with this. I had a different HDD (Hitachi) installed in an external USB enclosure and the USB connector broke. I bought a different brand enclosure and noticed that the drive information reported back to Windows was different. It also acted different when I would "Safely Remove Hardware." That was a while ago so I don't remember the exact differences. Speccy wasn't even involved.
  10. Three days ago, I published the specs for 2 of my PCs. I copied the URLs into my profile signature lines of a couple technical forums, including here. All was well until today. I happened to click on the link for my Win7 Pro x64 laptop and it was displaying the specs of a WinXP Home system that I had never seen before. I should have been smart enough to copy this URL, but I wasn't. I have published a new spec for this laptop and updated the URLs in the signature lines, including on this forum. I will continue to monitor, but I was just wondering if there was a (known) problem with the random URLs generated by Speccy when specs are published? Is there the possibility of unintended duplication? Thanks
  11. Ah-ha! I WAS missing something. Thanks.
  12. Problem still there in v1.08.218 http://speccy.piriform.com/results/vSgil1wucGe9tNWRqQDDVHD Although, it does show BitDefender under "Running Services."
  13. Am I missing something or is there no direct link to the "builds" webpage from the product webpage? If I hadn't read about the "builds" page here, I wouldn't be able to find it. Same for the other Piriform product webpages.
  14. Yeah, pretty much, but perhaps not at the rate that the OP posted. I started Speccy (v1.08.218) and immediately took a screen shot of Task Manager: I then let Speccy sit there and run for 15 minutes and took another screen shot of Task Manager: The published specs of my laptop from Speccy are HERE. Hope that helps.
  15. Thanks, MrRon. Love the program... just a few "oops" to work out.
  16. As I stated above, I have BitDefender and CCleaner installed on 3 PCs and CCleaner (even the Registry cleaner portion) has never damaged BitDefender. I am at a loss to explain why others have experienced problems between the two programs.
  17. I've published the specs for 3 of my PCs so you can see for yourself what information gets published: http://speccy.piriform.com/results/1weHUbpKiCDCFdCrlXyI8Fp http://speccy.piriform.com/results/8ZzVq0xyxMbhPlHsmIQez53 http://speccy.piriform.com/results/uNhktB7bc8XLBENHc1B2QMP
  18. I have CCleaner and BitDefender installed on 3 systems. Absolutely no conflicts or problems. Rather than using their phone or chat support, you are much better off using their forum. The support people there are pretty sharp and in fact, have given instructions to users with problems to download and use CCleaner.
  19. Similar issue to a couple other posts I read, but a little different. Installed Speccy on 3 of my PCs. They all have BitDefender installed as the a/v program. Speccy correctly identifies BitDefender on these 2 systems: http://speccy.piriform.com/results/1weHUbpKiCDCFdCrlXyI8Fp http://speccy.piriform.com/results/8ZzVq0xyxMbhPlHsmIQez53 But not on this Win7 x64 laptop: http://speccy.piriform.com/results/uNhktB7bc8XLBENHc1B2QMP Thanks, Gary
  20. Hey, there was a lot of personal information on that drive... can't be too careful in this age of identity theft. p.s. No, I wouldn't hit an old man in glasses... that describes ME too.
  21. Sounds like what I did in the garage to my last HDD (except for the bulk video tape eraser part). Took the whole thing apart, put each platter in my bench vise (making sure to significantly scratch the surface with the vise jaws) and with a pair of pliers bent and finally broke each platter into quarters. I then threw a few pieces at a time in the trash over a couple weeks so everything wasn't in the same trash bag.
  22. Yeah, there were 26 files inside the zip and the one email message I am looking for was in there. Unfortunately, the message (and the 4 attached photos) were already corrupted. Guess I didn't get to the dbx file soon enough before the contents were partially overwritten. Earlier this afternoon, before reading your reply, I found and downloaded Smart Email Recovery (free download from cnet) and tried it. It had given me virtually the same result as Recuva did, right down to which characters in the text of the email message body were unrecoverable. It couldn't recover the 4 attached photos either. We were able to get the sender to just re-send the email with the photos attached. It's all good. Thanks for your reply. Happy Holidays! EDIT: This problem is a great illustration of why I have always hated the .dbx file structure of Outlook Express and the .pst file structure of Outlook. I have upgraded to Windows Live Mail where each message is stored in it's own .eml file, thus, avoiding this type of recovery problem. (I backup my email store folders multiple times every day so that if I delete a message by mistake, I'll have a much better chance of recovery).
  23. My mother-in-law uses OE6 for her email. She accidentally deleted an email message. She has already closed and restarted OE6 and since the OE6 options are set to "Empty messages from the 'Deleted Items' folder on exit," the message, of course, no longer shows up now when I look in the 'Deleted Items' folder using OE6. (I am accessing her PC remotely from my PC). The .dbx folders were last compacted 2 weeks ago so I know the message is still in either (or both) the Inbox.dbx (198MB) or Deleted Items.dbx (9MB) file(s), but probably just flagged as deleted. I uploaded both .dbx files (before too many more changes occurred in them) to my PC and put them in a temporary work folder. I tried to use Recuva but I can't get it to recognize the .dbx file in the work folder. It says there is nothing to recover. Since the .dbx files were not deleted at the file level and are not corrupted in any way, should Recuva be able to find individual email messages inside a .dbx file and recover them? Or, is that not a function of Recuva? EDIT: I read this old topic but it didn't offer much help: http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=12332
  24. Yeah - great info to have. I bookmarked the page - THANKS!
