  1. Brilliant - on-screen keyboard is spot-on (as long as u don't have a crap mouse too)

    Thank-you !

 What will the mouse not click the on-screen keyboard.

    Possible remedy in this order:

    1. Sledgehammer: repeatedly smash all faulty hardware.

    2. Metal garbage can: place all smashed faulty hardware into metal garbage can.

    3. Lighter fluid: spray whole bottle of lighter fluid into metal garbage can completely covering smashed faulty hardware.

    4. Match: Strike match and throw into metal garbage can.

    5. If burning smashed faulty hardware is illegal in your area please disregard steps 3 and 4.

    Edit:

    Fixed typos.

  2. I think I'll stick with Opera since its more stable.

The current release version of Opera v9.00 actually is rather buggy when compared to the current release version of Firefox v1.5.0.4, which is why I downgraded to Opera v8.54.

What's buggy in Opera 9.00 (at least on my system):

    * From the get-go the installation doesn't always create a Start Menu programs group with shortcuts.

    * Some websites are completely unusable and don't load correctly, e.g.; Yahoo! TV.

    * Some of the clicking in skins isn't spot on, e.g.; clicking the small x to close an open tab are off centered or slow to respond.

    * On my system when downloading files Opera 9 was causing a huge increase in resource usage.

    * On my system when clicking Help->Support it doesn't redirect to the Opera support webpage.

  3. Yeah and the warning pop-up will stop CCleaner from causing problems with Firefox as a few people stated sometime ago by cleaning it whilst is it running. The warning is a safety precaution built into CCleaner now so that Firefox won't be cleaned while it's running, and therefore won't cause Firefox to have problems loading pages (if I'm remembering correctly).

    Edit:

Brain-fart reply, I basically repeated myself twice in both sentences.

  4. You reverse the steps!

    What you changed to: ,,

    You change back to: ,hide,

Too bad you didn't make a backup copy before changing things, which is a hint for in the future make a backup before following advice.

  5. 1. 1 hour because an alarm clock wouldn't know to only go off on the next day.

    2. 1 if only counting either the inner side or the outer side. 2 if counting both the inner side, and the outer side.

    3. 12.

  6. More than likely they're components of a main application you've installed, for instance Kodak camera software creates allot of entries that are hidden however they're a part of the main application and removing them "may or will" break a portion of the main application.

  7. I tried Opera 9 a few times but I just don't like it.

Opera 9.0 has to be the buggiest "stable" release version of Opera I've ever had the misfortune of using, although there have been other troublesome versions in the past. 9.0 has some serious problems from some webpages like Yahoo! TV not loading properly and being completely unusable, to all sorts of stuff that worked fine in 8.54 which is why I completely removed 9.0 and installed 8.54.

  8. No ill effects? Yet in your screenshot none of the images loaded.

    dnsclient.png.xs.jpg

Yeah but you wouldn't have known that when I use Opera I don't allow images to load (which any Opera user would know looking at cached image icon next to the eyeball that has 100% at the upper right), remember I'm on dial-up and loading images takes ages.

  9. If you're using a software-based firewall most that I know of an have used will automatically protect those ports from external/incoming exploitation, even the wimpy Windows Firewall will protect them.

  10. It's best for you, your computer and your connection if you leave the DNS Client service set to Automatic. As DjLizard said, setting it to Manual will just result it in turning itself on when you're on the net.

Actually in my case it doesn't turn itself on when set to manual while I'm online and have been online for a good amount of time, yet I notice zero ill effects.

  11. Get the newest one! There's absolutely no need whatsoever to use all those that are inbetween what you have and the newest one.

Flashing the BIOS can be risky business and dangerous, so make certain you're only using an official update from the official manufacturer website.

  12. Did you remove or clear out the HOSTS file when you attempted this?

    No, and why would I?

I had a large HOSTS file long before I even set DNS Client to manual as suggested by MVPS however it didn't exceed the supposed filesize limit on WinXP. Now it does however exceed the filesize limit because I'm using my HOSTS file, the MVPS HOSTS file, and the hpHOSTS HOSTS file.

  13. You may wish to try setting the DNS Client service back to Automatic and see if there are any increases in your speeds.

Here's some stats for you - this is not an argument of who's right or wrong, it's just what I encountered doing things the "Microsoft way":

    1. I set the DNS Client to Automatic, followed by a reboot. Then I noticed no websites whatsoever would load no matter what browser I tried (IE, Firefox, Opera).

    2. I set it back to Manual, and then tried to reboot however I got a pop-up dialog noting that the Service wasn't responding. I had to end task it in order to reboot.

    3. Now with it set to Manual, and after a reboot websites load in all browsers again. This is of no surprise to me since MVPS and hpHOSTS both say to disable DNS Client with a large HOSTS file.

  14. I've been blocking sites via the HOSTS file for at least six years now and haven't noticed any ill effects. Also in disabling the WinXP DNS Client Service I have not noticed any ill effects either.

However I suppose since MS has an article about it someone could notice some effect, albeit I haven't - but then again I'm on dial-up which is slow anyways.

  15. Simply put, in my opinion the program uninstallers should be in the programs folder with that specific program.

    Ditto.

This thread isn't going to get anywhere trying to solve MS issues and CCleaner issues via us regular forum members - it's needs to be done via the developers. I'm done with this thread!

  16. I had the cracking sound crap on my previous system. Sometimes unplugging the speakers from the powerstrip would do the trick however it turned out to be the powerstrip itself that I was using, and buying a new Belkin powerstrip specifically rated for computers did the trick for me. If you get a new powerstrip make sure you get one that's rated for your CPU, e.g.; 2.6 Ghz, 3.2 Ghz, etc., the supported CPU range is printed on the box if you get a Belkin.

I just listened during 2 hours to Judas Priest and all went smooth. :/

Sounds good, I think I'll put on some JP right now! :)

  17. when install, way to add desktop icon and the start/programs item into other accounts.

This has been requested multiple times and I happen to completely agree with you and everyone else that wants CCleaner available for all user accounts. It really in my opinion wouldn't be that difficult to accomplish, because the install program would instead need to put the shortcuts in the 'Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs'

Also, way to autorun when shut browser and when shut cpu, and when screensaver goes on, could be helpful.

    thanks.

It's been requested a few times to have CCleaner auto-clean when shutting down the computer. It is very easy to accomplish with a batch file, in the example below CCleaner will auto-clean and then the system will shutdown (only works on Windows XP though):

    1. Open Notepad and input the following three lines of text (copy+paste):"%ProgramFiles%\CCleaner\ccleaner.exe" /AUTOshutdown -s -t 15 -c "System Shutdown"exit2. Save anywhere you wish as a .bat (batch file), such as:"C:\Windows\CCleanerAutoShutdown.bat"3. Create a desktop shortcut that points to CCleanerAutoShutdown.bat.Done.

  18. You'd need to make a winapp2.ini entry, that is if one doesn't already exist for it in this thread, you can use the winapp2.ini thread as a sort of template to help you build your own winapp2.ini entry.

You can have it recursively scan a parent folder such as 'Documents and Settings' and remove specific things you don't want, however to clean all user accounts you'd probably need to be logged on as the System Admin.
