  1. Then you should look at the Demo Review by them on YouTube, having not heard of it before that's where I went to see it and I don't like the very Windows 8ish looking GUI.
  2. They moved to ESR, and that's what Firefox 51.01 will download and install. I didn't have to jump through hoops to get ESR enabled, I just grabbed the PortableApps.com version here and then cut+paste my profile into it and it's working good.
  3. Restart Windows if you haven't done so in a while, and then reboot your modem if it's a cable or DSL modem. According to my ISP's support documentation the DSL modem should be rebooted once per week.
  4. At least Protegent is legit. Although for a mere $5 more I'd buy a Norton Antivirus Basic license - that is if I had to use a paid antivirus.
  5. That's the best protection! As long as the backup drive is not plugged in at all times. Create the system backup, and then unplug the backup drive because if ransomware attacks it will encrypt everything including the backup(s) on the external USB hard drive if it's plugged in.
  6. * You can copy the Start Menu shortcut to the desktop to restore it. * Or right click an empty area on the desktop and select New>Shortcut, then browse to the install path where CCleaner is and select CCleaner.exe. * Or if all else fails you can reinstall CCleaner over your already installed version, and during setup make sure you have the box enabled/ticked that will create a desktop shortcut.
  7. This XP Pro system I'm using is 14 years old without allot of crap running on startup and it's fast. I've seen some modern brand new Windows 10 machines that are slow.
  8. Download the actual portable version, then unzip it over what you already have to retain your settings file. You're probably missing the portable.dat file which is required for it to function as a true portable software.
  9. New: [Vopt 9*] LangSecRef=3024 Default=False Detect=HKCU\Software\Golden Bow Systems\Vopt FileKey1=%ProgramFiles%\Golden Bow\Vopt 9|Vopt.log
  10. uBlock Origin is available in the official Google Chrome Store, when looking for it specifically type into the search box: uBlock Origin ------------- MVPS Hosts File: Blocks bad sites, such as advertising and those that would infect your system with malware like viruses, trojans, worms, ransomware, etc. It will block allot of crap silently without ever bothering you. SpywareBlaster: Sets ActiveX killbits which prevent some malware from installing, and it also sets up websites to block. It saves all this into the registry to block the bad stuff or in the case of compatible browsers it also blocks bad sites in browsers such as Firefox, and it doesn't even have to be running to protect you as the protection is non-resident. It will block allot of crap silently without ever bothering you. Malwarebytes ("MB, MBAM"): Is a popular anti-malware or second opinion scanner which is available as Free or Premium. Free only finds things after they infect your system, Premium has real-time protection. It's traditionally used alongside your real-time protection antivirus solution to detect and clean malware that traditional antivirus software often misses or doesn't completely remove. There's also Zemana Anti-Malware, somewhat similar to Malwarebytes but it's cloud-based and with a smaller footprint when installed. And there's also HitmanPro, another cloud-based anti-malware owned by Sophos. All of the above three MVPS Hosts File, SpywareBlaster, and Malwarebytes are in my opinion must haves as it adds in layered security since just having one solution like only an antivirus installed will not protect your computer alone.

    Slim version?

You can still use that defrag software, you just need to input an exclusion into Malwarebytes when it detects it (usually accomplished by unticking the box that would remove it then MB gives the option to ignore it) - it's really simple to do and then it will stop detecting it altogether.
  12. If Shockwave uses Flash cookies you'd also need to disable/untick this in CCleaner: Adobe Flash Player
  13. The instructions to turn off the "background" in Chrome is located in this topic - at the bottom of the post: https://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=40285
  14. To add to MTA's list above it also helps to install an adblocker extension in your browser, and then subscribe to Malware Domains List, and Malware Domains to block allot of websites that will try to infect your system. It also helps to subscribe to the Adware filters to block even more junk.

    Slim version?

Yes they flag Auslogics Disk Defrag, even the portable version is flagged however it's clean and doesn't include all the rubbish the install version has in it - I use the portable version therefore I know when MB flags it it's complete B.S. ESET has been flagging the CCleaner Standard installer for years as containing a PUP. However PUP doesn't always necessarily mean malware. What Malwarebytes or any anti-malware/anti-virus company flag in installers I seriously doubt won't persuade another developer one bit. Piriform is like everyone else they have to eat, pay rent, etc., and the majority of users they have are probably using the free version so hence the Standard installer with the included Google third-party software embedded helps pay a little (probably not allot) for the software being kept available for free. Remember they don't have to offer anything for free, they could've just as easily made their software 100% commercial needing to be purchased but they didn't go that route, thankfully.
  16. The moderation staff has been told "it should get fixed" next time around, which would be in version 5.29.
  17. I posted in our staff area about it where an admin+Piriform employee will see it with a link pointing to this topic.
  18. HP AIO printers/scanners = Frustration in my book, all on the software side though because the hardware is actually good. Nothing made me madder than going to print a document and the HP printer wanted to do some maintenance for about 60 seconds - this happened almost everytime I wanted to print something. Now I use Kodak AIO printers/scanners and don't have such frustrations anymore.
  19. If you still have Norton installed do the following: 1. Scan the registry using CCleaner. 2. When those Norton registry items appear: Right click them in the registry cleaner window and select Exclude.
  20. If those cleaners are using this "SpecialDetect=DET_MOZILLA" for Detect= maybe change them to the known installed folder location(s) for the adblocking extensions.
  21. Check on SourceForge.net. I noticed an iPod repair program on there many years ago but I don't remember the name of it, and it maybe worth a shot if your iPod has become useless. Note I never tried the program since I've never owned an iPod.
  22. You can wipe them in Chrome itself or as you're also doing using SuperAntiSpyware. If you don't want allot of those cookies in the first place you can benefit from using a HOSTS file that blocks ad servers, such as the MVPS HOSTS File located here: http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm And if things still get through install an adblocker in your web browser, such as uBlock Origin.
  23. See if anything in here helps: https://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=47917
  24. I've moved your post here into it's own unique topic since it had nothing to do with the topic you originally posted it into.
  25. When my mother's Win10 system was doing exactly as you described it during startup it turned out she needed a different graphics driver installed from Dell and not what Automatic Updates incorrectly put on her system. Win10 really shouldn't automatically install drivers, it's just asking for serious problems!
