  1. And that's my biggest gripe about CCleaner, and the only reason I continue to use BleachBit alongside it. BleachBit can remove locked files after restarting the computer and after all these years CCleaner really should have that ability.
  2. I'm running SRWare Iron Portable and CCleaner doesn't list any of the Extensions, possibly because it's the portable version. When I used to use the installation version of Comodo Dragon I think it may have listed the Extensions, if I'm remembering correctly but that's been almost two years ago.
  3. That already exists, by analyzing, and then only having it defrag only those files which are fragmented. See here: http://www.piriform.com/docs/defraggler/using-defraggler/defragmenting-a-folder-or-file/ Edit: Although I get your point, it would be easier to get at by having a single button to do it without the extra steps involved, then to optimize a disk could be a different button or drop-down selection.
  4. There's an old known "tweak" to turn off "timestamping" actually called NtfsDisableLastAccessUpdate which is system-wide and can cause issues with some programs like backup tools, cleaning tools, etc., so maybe it's worth investigating the system hasn't had that applied and there are some freeware programs that allow enabling and disabling it.
  5. Interesting, I've never seen a battery that looks like that. Would've been one of those what in the hell is this moments!
  6. I also do a real shutdown of my PlayStation 4 when not in use instead of putting it into rest mode since it can alleviate some random crashing in some games, and especially Sony's crash happy PS4 Media Player app.
  7. I tried standby mode near the beginning of my XP usage, but stopped using it when it would cause issues. I only log off, but I don't keep my computer running all day or night when I'm not using it. login123 you weren't the only one trying to track down gremlins. I found mine, and it was SUPERAntiSpyware which after one of its program updates last year would randomly cause a BSOD, and other very weird abnormalities. Whatever went wrong with it I think it was perhaps related to a driver for it always running in the background even though I had disabled the SASCORE service for it. Maybe something to look into if you also have it installed because some security software may state "XP compatible" but I sometimes wonder.
  8. It could also be allot of old Restore Points consuming so much space.
  9. If you're that low on space trying to find other things to clean isn't going to do that much - unless you have some bloated software installed that you either never use or very rarely use that could allow for some extra space if you uninstall it. Hard disks aren't very expensive nowadays, if you have a PC tower you could add an additional internal hard disk to store other things on not related to the operating system such as music, video, downloaded software, etc. Other than that you could also get an external hard disk.
  10. I'd update them off my PC. Sometimes anti-virus is more destructive than an actual infection to unsuspecting users placing blind faith in them to never screw up, but at some point they're always causing some false positive but to what degree. -------------------- I can't use Avast anyways though since it isn't compatible with HASP License Manager - as in Windows won't boot into normal mode with those two installed. I tried to work with Avast on the problem years ago but they gave up.
  11. Try a clean/fresh install since updating hasn't resolved the issue: 1. Download the newest version of CCleaner from the official website: https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds 2. Uninstall CCleaner. 3. Restart Windows. 4. Install the newest version you just downloaded. If it's still giving you issues after that read this topic on how to run CCleaner in Debug mode: https://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=37347 Edit: I don't remember what version had the changes in it to clean IE and Edge differently which is notably slower, but taking 15 minutes is way too long.
  12. Upgrade to Windows Defender, it's built into the OS. Not the first time Avast has had a bad update like that - how embarrassing for them and it's enough to get some users to switch their antivirus software. AVG had some issues like that a few years back as well. Glad I wasn't using either during their false positive fiasco. Any anti-virus and anti-malware will at some point get a bad update like detailed in your link to the Avast forums. That's one reason I will never allow any anti-virus or anti-malware to automatically make any decisions without me being in the loop to make the actual final decision of what is or isn't infected. I.e.; if my av detects something I immediately upload what it's detecting to VirusTotal and Jotti to see what they say.
  13. I haven't found any download sites which are calling it by the new name, most are still calling it Panda Free Antivirus, some others are still calling it Panda Cloud Antivirus Free - those sites still also have old screenshots of previous versions because the new version looks nothing like the old versions See here, look at Softpedia's screenshots, in particular screenshot 2 where it says: About Panda Protection
  14. I don't have a cell phone, for whatever reason things that run off of batteries have a very short lifespan when I'm in contact with them, they go kaput like TV remotes, wireless mouse, etc. Wonder why they don't just put solar cells and kinetic charging in all of them, would negate needing the bigger battery you require.
  15. To test audio files for damage rather they're on a perfectly working hard disk, or recovered from a damaged one I'd recommend having AudioTester (freeware) scan all of them - it's better than guessing or hoping everything is alright.
  16. I gave up trying to use Slax with it because I could only load Firefox in Slax just once, and if I closed it it would go corrupt or something even if I didn't enable Persistent in the Slax boot menu choices. After about eight re-installs of Slax using YUMI I gave up and will instead just use the CD-R I have it on. Same thing happened with Chrome in Ubuntu, and not being all that familiar with Linux I didn't know how to fix it.
  17. Just download the installer for what's referred to as "Panda Free Antivirus" v18.0, in the main GUI of the program it now has the name of: Panda Protection That's what I saw when I installed v18.0.
  18. Payload Security Hybrid Analysis Runs In: Web Browser URL: https://www.hybrid-analysis.com Not a software but instead a website that features an online malware scanner, and you don't have to install anything. If you're used to VirusTotal then it works similar but only in the way you select a file to upload to it. It takes a long time for it to analyze a file, however the results are unique.
  19. It's a false positive. See the VirusTotal report here: https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/7f6b831129ce21153e83fc2b27c4b3236927b310c1fbdaf95755ce4eac223431/analysis/ The reason your antivirus is flagging it is because of the 3rd party included software from Google, you can very easily opt-out during installation by unticking the relevant boxes. Bookmark this page for the Slim build and Portable build, they don't contain any 3rd party software.
  20. Panda Cloud Antivirus > Panda Free Antivirus > now renamed to Panda Protection in version 18 and it's still fully compatible with WinXP. Although v18.0 has some issues on some systems which isn't just a WinXP only problem when looking at their support forums which is one of the reasons I suppose why they won't have v17.0.1 auto-update to v18.0. If someone wants v18.0 they have to manually download and install it, probably have to uninstall the older version first though. Panda Protection v18.0 has an issue with not being able to complete a Full Scan - which is not cool after spending 75 minutes for it to just stop at 95%, I had to downgrade back to v17.0.1 for that reason.
  21. Just saw an article the other day on Softpedia about the XP user base, the percentage is low but there's still allot of us. I in particular don't wish to upgrade my OS because of the custom made for me audio software I paid thousands of dollars for many years ago since I have a Metal band - I already know the software won't work correctly on a newer Windows OS, and don't feel like paying thousands more for it be made compatible. That and my usage of Win10 when I have to regrettably use it has revealed something to me; the types of tasks I do on a computer are a complete pain on Win10 being that it takes at least 50% longer to accomplish - and no it's not an issue of "you don't know how to use the OS" because I do.
  22. Just because a program is old doesn't merit removing it in my opinion, and it seems to be a reoccurring theme as it's been mentioned before numerous times to remove something that's old. If you don't use a particular program ignore it, someone else may actually need the cleaner for it. When it comes to removing cleaners for old versions of antivirus be careful, some vendors don't support an older OS anymore like XP with a new version of the antivirus however the old version of the antivirus may still be fed current signature files due to the vendor knowing it's still needed - example; ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus+Firewall for XP (years old but still functional), and some others.
  23. The new version released yesterday won't be available in the Slim build for several days. Reason: It usually takes Piriform about one week before they have the Slim build available again for download.
  24. The server is probably busy/overloaded with the millions of downloads.
  25. Try this as in the past it was the cause of slow cleaning of Firefox that I discovered: 1. Start CCleaner. 2. Go to the Firefox settings in CCleaner and untick/disable: Compact Databases If it speeds through cleaning Firefox the next time you use CCleaner the Compact Databases was the issue.
