The significantly slower running you notice is on newer OSes with how Internet Explorer and Edge browsers are cleaned. As for how the Secure Delete is running, like you I've noticed no difference (for several years actually) when increasing the number of passes, but then again it's rather pointless to use more than 1-pass.

Installed which one yesterday, the Win10 update or Speccy. If you didn't just install Speccy try to reinstall it again.

You have to input specific folders for it to clean, such as E:\Temp Trying to input just E:\ would tell it to delete everything on the drive, which is why it won't let you do that to protect you from making a disastrous mistake. Think of it sort of like a batch file, where you have to tell it specifically where you want it to delete something, but unlike a batch file that will happily nuke everything on a secondary drive CCleaner won't.

In regards to the Kodak AIO Software, no there isn't any option to disable it. As soon as you print anything it automatically puts itself back into the registry to always run on startup and I don't like that behavior - hence the reason that cleaner is very useful to disable it with a simple click of the Run Cleaner button as it involves no registry editing or hunting down the Run section in the registry. Edit: And MSConfig is of no help either to disable it, because you'll only end up with orphaned disabled entries in the registry for disabled startups of it.

Back when I used 2-way firewalls I was always noticing them in the firewall logs. They aren't something I'm about to block. Many years ago on another forum there was discussion about blocking them due to them showing up in firewall logs, the consensus was don't block them because so much relied upon them.

I've reported it to the forum admin with a link to this topic so hopefully Piriform can look into it.

Previously when asked they stated it using the Windows defrag API. As for handling of NTFS compressed files, I've read in the past that it can give defrag tools using the Windows defrag API (which most use) issues but mostly what I got out of it was their ability to fill gaps. Then again you'll also have to consider the MFT Reserved Zone, some defrag tools clearly show it in the drive/defrag map whereas others don't so it can look like there's a large amount of blank space in between files in defrag tools that don't show it. I don't know if this Microsoft Windows 2000 defragmenation article is current for modern defrag software or not, but one line in it was interesting:

I've had corruption just shutting down with a USB stick, but then again USB sticks have always been Fat32 whereas an external hard disk will have NTFS. For anyone using a PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4 never shutdown those game consoles with USB storage devices plugged in - well at least not with USB sticks (don't know what will happen now that PS4 supports external USB hard disks) because file corruption can happen, and tools on Windows like ChkDsk may not even find anything wrong but you could have a bunch of corrupted MP3s (which will be obvious because they'll have clicking sounds), Videos, Pictures, etc.

If people would leave certain warnings in, then people would know what it does instead of having a very long name for the cleaner. I made that cleaner, and find it very useful because I don't want the Kodak software running when I start Windows.

You'll end up breaking some sites, especially things like antivirus which use them.

I turned off all the Win10 spy-crap on my mother's Win10 laptop using the built in tools and it takes awhile to do it. The most interesting thing when turning all that spyware crap off is when running CCleaner, it will no longer re-find a bunch of web-related junk to cleanup with the spyware off. Whereas if you turn all the spyware back on, run CCleaner to clean the junk, and then click Analyze again all the crap is put right back on the computer like you never ran CCleaner - you can do this over and over and over again and you won't win the fight. So in that sense you can see that turning it off is actually doing something, although Microsoft won't let you turn everything off as there's supposedly some undocumented spying they're doing. I never like to just pull the cord out, especially on my 2TB external hard disk. In the past I've had a ton of files get corrupted just pulling out a USB stick. One would think after all these years Microsoft would've found a solution for it, guess not.

Try USB Disk Ejector (freeware). Sometimes end tasking Explorer.exe, and then starting it again will allow for safe removal. Although Win10 rarely in my experience allows for safe removal and you just have to end up pulling the USB device out without knowing if file corruption has happened.

1. If wanting a free malware protection perhaps install Avira Browser Safety into compatible web browsers since browsers is how most malware gets onto the system. Note for Firefox you have to download and install it from the Avira website, it isn't on the Firefox addons website yet for whatever reason. For Chrome/Chromium download it from the Chrome Web Store. 2. Then you could use Malwarebytes Free for scanning and removal.

I've heard of Reason Core, it's from the makers of HerdProtect. I personally wouldn't use a "free" scanner if it's completely crippled without the ability for removal, in this sense "free" should actually be considered as a demo.

Never heard of them, and I wouldn't shop on a site I'm not familiar with! If I were to buy an antivirus I'd get it from a trusted source directly from the software maker website, or Amazon, or NewEgg.

You could search the web for such an icon to see if one has already been made, there's many free icon libraries.

Allot of times something is non-functional in a portable such as: * Automatic updating won't work as it's usually disabled by default. Although some may notify you of a new version being available however it's entirely up to you to manually update. * For disk defrag software it can't do a boot time defrag (even Defraggler Portable won't).

CCleaner is not an anti-virus or anti-malware tool, it is a cleaning tool but knows nothing of any viruses or malware that may be on a computer. If you clicked the Run Cleaner button, you'll need to either restore your files from a backup you've made, or attempt to get the files back with recovery software such as Recuva.

If your XP system is 32-bit then you can delete the 64-bit files in Firefox Portable to halve its disk space usage, it's located in the "App" folder, actually you can delete the whole Firefox64 folder. I run a batch file to remove unnecessary files after updating it on my XP 32-bit system with this in it (that .bat file is located in the exact same folder where FirefoxPortable.exe resides): rmdir /q /s "App\Firefox64" rmdir /q /s "Other\Source" However on 64-bit systems you can not delete any of it, even the 32-bit version is required to remain intact.
