You are a blind fanboy, which is not a compliment

There's something wrong with this article...it has been written on May 4th according to the top of the page, yet it states things such as "avast comes with no bundled software", "avast's installer requires e-mail registration", "avast's interface lookis like a media player" - all of those are wrong since avast 5
-
Oh...I forgot that. Anyway, she should not keep IE 7 as it is outdated since a long time. (Besides, IE 8 requires no hacks from web devs - but let's stay on topic)

Hotfix Uninstaller cleaning option is missing in 2.33.1184
Aethec replied to UlxxxrtNC52t's topic in CCleaner Bug Reporting
In the Hotfix uninstaller winsys.ini entry, DetectOS is set to |5.2, which means WinXP or older (WinXP's kernel number is 5.1). No Win7, and no Vista either -
I used it to remove the Office 2010 Technical Preview, because both the uninstaller and Revo Uninstaller failed to remove it. Useful IMO...but if MS says harmful things can be done, I guess I'll have to be extra careful next time.

Interesting idea, indeed. Now we just have to hope the devs will see it

*cough* IE 9 will be out soon *cough*

I still have it, so...maybe it's possible to use it like a portable app ? (i.e. put it on an USB key)

Well, freebies such as Avast, Avira, etc. have paid versions so they have a dedicated support team - the avast help forum is quite active.
-
Already asked a lot of time...the main problem is that Piriform earns money with the Yahoo Toolbar, so they'd have to make the auto-updater a paid feature, and then maintain a paid product (which means they'd have to provide quality support with short delays for the paid customers, thus reducing the help non-paid customers would have).

Yes, but forgetting about Flash cookies also means no saved games in Flash games
-
She should update to IE8. It *might* resolve the problem, and it will make web developpers happy

Contrarily to a popular myth, free AVs are not worse than paid ones.

Whats the point of this when we have the Windows Disk Defragger
Aethec replied to Sora96's topic in Defraggler
The main point being the file defrag. You don't have to defrag the whole drive, just the fragmented files -
If Office 2010 stays on the list, it's not a CCleaner bug, it's the Office uninstaller that does either a bad job or a voluntarily bad one to keep your preferences if you buy a new version of Office

cleaning files from every user account
Aethec replied to davidwfaulkner's topic in CCleaner Suggestions
However, the (ridiculous) limitation of Run as... is that you can only do it for password-protected accounts. If an account is not password-protected, you won't be able to do it. -
Well, if svchost is infected, Norton might not detect it, as svchost means "Service Host" - if a virus finds a way to load a service, it could do some really nasty things. You can get help from our Spyware mods, read this thread : http://forum.pirifor...showtopic=20120 [EDIT] ...Beaten by Hazel.

Here the main point is not real speed, but speed through graphics. IE9's hardware acceleration means it is much, much, much, much, much better at drawing things (SVG, Canvas, images, text, everything) than other browsers. If you try the Fish Tank demo in Firefox...well, it's really slow.

Couldn't CC just use the DetectFile icon if there is one ?
-
Cleaning up gigabytes ? That is impossible. Unless, of course, it's deleting System Restore Points - which is a bad idea.

Not Defragging Inactiive pagefile.sys (In Another PC)
Aethec replied to dannymanno's topic in Defraggler Bug Reporting
You can't delete pagefile.sys. You'll have to go through Windows options to do that -
The third Internet Explorer 9 Platform Preview has released. With support for <video>, <audio>, and <canvas>. The <canvas> element, like everything else, is GPU-accelerated. Also, they have improved the JS engine : Mozilla must be worried now - exept addons, Firefox is now inferior in all visible things (speed being the main one). There's a nice potato gun game on the IE testing center : http://ie.microsoft.com/testdrive/Performance/MrPotatoGun/Default.html (but don't try to run it in Firefox or Chrome - they're too slow) Any future IE users out there ?

Well, it's just a host for Flash, Silverlight, and others, so the real culprit here is Flash
