  1. LOL! I wish! There are even a couple people who never returned my PMs; 1 after two tries ...
  2. Click here and the download should start automatically. Hopefully that will work .
  3. You have to click on 'Download' in the column on the left of the page. Took me a little while too ... Welcome to the forum BTW !
  4. Here is my log. Thanks Dj! Maxtor_6y120po.txt Maxtor_6y120po.txt
  5. As I'm sure you're finding out, it's not good news. If the computer still boots, you should back up as much as possible and replace your hard drive if you can. DjLizard has recommended some S.M.A.R.T. monitoring tools in this thread that will detail exactly what is happening but if you're getting a warning screen I would imagine time is of the essence. One of my hard drives is failing but I only found out through a warning in Belarc Advisor, not via a warning screen. Sorry for your trouble and best of luck. Wish I could offer more specific and informative help. Edit: The link he posted for HD Tune points to an image from the application. The application itself can befound here.
  6. You're welcome. Glad to be of some help (along with hazelnut). I also tried out System Monitor. Seems like it can monitor just about everything, except temps, unfortunately... Thanks hazelnut, I learned a lot from your post !
  7. Here is a picture of the Resource Meter (amazingly mine's in the green : Clicking on 'Details' brings up this window:
  8. While trying to fix a problem with Help and Support, I thought the problem might reside with IE7 Beta. I ran a utility that was supposed to fix IE and ironically it fixed Help and Suppor and killed IE. When I try to open iE, the window appears briefly, closes, and iexplorer drops off of the Task Manager list. While reseaching this I came across posts that said IE is not required for Automatic Updates if you set Automatic Updates to Automatic. I have AU set to notify me when new updates are available, but not to download or install them. After receiving the update notification, I can click on the tray icon, review and choose which updates to install, and complete the process. AU functions in its own window without using IE at all. So far it is working perfectly and so is Help and Support.
  9. Isn't hufu a dish that's best served cold? Or you could eat the grapes of wrath of Khan...
  10. There are mousewheel options in about:config. The line to modify is: mousewheel.horizscroll.withnokey.numlines The higher the integer, the faster the scrolling should be. Didn't seem to have much effect on my PC, though. There are some scrolling extensions on this page, but I don't think any are what you are looking for except for SuperScroll which isn't compatible with newer FireFox versions yet.
  11. Did you mean 'trap?' If not, please explain . The sound scared me but not the picture, I thought it was my reflection ...
  12. Hi hazelnut - Did lokoike answer your question? Here is a screenshot of TinyResMeter. You can change the many options it has by right-clicking on the tray icon. I'm not sure this is what you're looking for or asking about but I hope it helps.
  13. Because I used the Hotfix cleaner and I'm too lazy to remove IE7 the long way ! Seriously, though I should probably give that a try. Thanks !
  14. I'm just guessing but I was thinking maybe it's because you can check resources in Task Manager. I can't remember ME, but on my Win98 machine Task Manager doesn't show anything about resources. I'm not sure if it's similar to windows resource monitor, but I've used TinyResMeter from PESoft and it seems like a handy little tool.
  15. Lately when I click on the blue link for more information from MS on an event that is listed the Help and Support window opens but it doesn't connect to MS and there is no info in the box where you type in the terms or link to search for. This may have started when I installed IE7 Beta. However, it is IE6 that opens, not IE7. The Help and Support Service is enabled and running in services.msc. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Thanks !
  16. This page shows how to check for which versions of a few other MS components. microsoft.com
  17. The incomplete folder in limewire is for downloads that are interrupted or unfinished like when NetZero logs off at a bad time (which it always seems to do ).
  18. Does your precious graphing calculator have enough RAM to extrapolate how many times you've managed to mention it in the forum ? I'm sure it doesn't have enough RAM to extrapolate how many times lokoike has outwitted me especially since the number grows exponentially every few minutes. Maybe IBM's Big Blue could do it given enough time.
  19. No point really, other than I found it amazing Apple was loosening up a bit and not only sanctioning but providing software to allow an MS product on their a/r Macs. Hence all the hell freezing over comments ...
  20. That's great Canary! Glad I (and pwillener, hazelnut, and Andavari) could help. Thanks for letting us know you got it working ! Event Viewer is in Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Event Viewer. It lists errors, alerts, etc. during your PC's operation. It can be very handy and can warn you of problems as they occur or before they become a major issue. It also lists general information from various programs and services including Windows Defender. It uses symbols to advise you of the severity of the issue. I made a shortcut to my desktop and check it daily and then clear the events to keep the list short and easy to read. Double-click on an item in the list in the left hand pane to see the events in that section. Right-click for a list of options. Double-click on an item in the event list for more info on the event and for a link to MS for more details and recommendations. Be forewarned, if you haven't used it yet your list will be huge !
