  1. Do you have any anti malware type programs installed already, if yes can you run them? Can you update them?
  2. I must be typing my replies at the same time as you Tarun, I read what is already there, decide to post, by time I have posted you have replied. Your answers are better anyway.
  3. They are not realplayer files, it is just realplayer has been set up as the program to open that type of file.
  4. Considering that it is listed in the add/remove section in control panel, then I personally can't see any problems removing it, I'm pretty sure I removed it from my computer years ago, only to get it reinstalled by the kids. Unless you are struggling for space on your hard drive is there any real need to remove it anyway, it is not doing any harm. Adaware contains a downloadable plug-in that will stop Windows Messenger from running when it is not desired.
  5. Was that another bit of praising up by Dj? How could you ever be obsolete? I dread to think what sort of knowledge you will have when you reach my age.
  6. could always go here: http://www.talktothevet.com/FREE_PET_STUFF/
  7. I first heard about it when it was either featured in a magazine that I get fortnightly, or on their website, can't quite remember which. Computeractive magazine
  8. Shannon, Cyberscrub and eraser are not exactly for cleaning a PC, with the intentions of helping speed it up by removing the clutter that accumalates like CCleaner does. They are for removing files and folders in a secure way rather than just deleting them. When windows deletes a file, it is not actually deleted, it is marked as free space ready for over writing. All the while it is marked for deletion it can be found by a recovery tool, and even after it has been over written it may still be possible to recover it. Cyberscrub and eraser over write files, when deleting, many numbers of time to ensure that they are erased beyond recovery. Although I dont think they over write them to recommended standards as some other "shredder" type programs do. Hope this helped a little bit, and welcome to the forum.
  9. Zonealarm, Dj, why dont you use a firewall? Do you find them unnecessary?
  10. Impressive new look, and impressive system that the screenshot was taken on, (compared to mine anyway).
  11. Dj, would you recommend all the a-squared products or just HiJackFree.
  12. Dj, You really do know everything about everything dont you?
  13. I would not exactly say that windows updates are forced submissions, as much as they are critical in the sense that vast amounts of money is spent on ensuring that windows is as flaw free as people would expect, and the updates are there for the taking. Being that the updates are there for the taking, why not take advantage, if you bought a car and the manfacturer realised that something else should have been fitted, you would quite happily take it back to have that extra bit fitted wouldn't you. It is quite often security techs that find the flaws not microsoft staff, yet microsoft are expected to fix these flaws, and this they do. What other software manufacturer provides as many fixes as microsoft does, I know microsoft is quite often slated, especially by computer geeks who have managed to master other means of software, thus allowing them to break several ties with microsoft products, or maybe all ties with microsoft products, but microsoft have only got where they are due to the determination of Bill Gates. Maybe one day Bill Gates will finally come to accept that his products are used by the majority of the world and realise that the income he is generating could allow for future versions of his products to be released at a lower cost to the end user. Sorry for my banter, I get carried away sometimes.
  14. I thought you would have already been one of the beta testers, who could be better? MrG take note.
  15. Glad to hear you got it sorted slowday, they are a fickle things ,computers.
  16. That's what I was wondering.
  17. Dj, How does that clock on your site work then? Tonight the time was: The time now is Wed 15 Jun, 2005 All times are GMT - 5 Hours I was on there looking for info on your dial-a-fix thing.
  18. No, sorry Dj it wasn't, it was the link that rridgely and Tarun put in their posts. If it had been dial-a-fix I would have thanked you by now anyway.
  19. Thanks rridgely and Tarun, That worked.
  20. I dont get any notification, see below, I'm getting paranoid now, why am I being left out?
  21. rridgely, It is a fairly recent problem, the keyboard is about 3 years old, the problem is about 2 months old. The cleaning the keyboard in the sink came about when I spilled lager in to another one years ago, and all the keys just stuck, I was in a time of need so I took it apart and cleaned it, and it was like brand new so I have done it ever since. I do also have a habit of taking things apart, just for fun, my brother wont let me near anything of his anymore. Most of the time things go back together ok, sometimes you end up with some left over bits, I just think they are surplus to requirements anyway. Took my wifes hairdryer to bits the other week, put it back together, had a few bits left over, threw them away, it still works ok. To anyone else reading this: Please take care if it is electrical, electricity hurts. I know because I am an electrician, and I have had my share of shocks. Back to the subject now, Tarun, that did not work either.
  22. Did I give out the wrong info Tarun?, I thought it would be a useful alternative, Also why did I not update using v6?
