  1. That could have been a new topic after this one. I was going to say 25.
  2. Just thought I would start a new topic regarding our gender, like the one I started about Where do we come from: Where do we come from Hopefully this one will be more successful. CaPMan - Male Some others that I would guess are: DjLizard - Male (due to his real name) Tarun - Male (because of his love of his fiancee) rridgely - Male (just a hunch) TwistedMetal - Male (I think I read his blog and saw a pic) Eldmannen - ? - Writes like a male but has an avatar that is kinda girlish. Any offerings?
  3. Nice to hear someone else uses it, thanks Andavari.
  4. Andavari, I did state that I am in no way an audiophile, so therefore I was just giving my opinion, which is the opinion of a regular guy. Also I dont know about in the USA, but from my observations of people in the UK, headphones are generally used in places with excess noise, such as commuting to or from work using buses, trains, tubes, walking, or whatever other means is available. These are, I believe, the times when people would want to listen to music through headphones, rather than using other means at times when other means are available, which would probably then remove the need to listen to WMA's anyway. And besides all of this I was just trying to help oli achieve what he was trying to achieve. Whether this was the right or wrong approach will always be up for argument, as many things always are, but oli seemed happy.
  5. I run easycleaner's registry cleaner on various machines once a week and never have problems, this is in addition to running CCleaner numerous times a day.
  6. Windows firewall only blocks incoming traffic, so if something nasty such as a keylogger etc. does manage to get into your computer, then there is nothing to stop it from sending your data back out again.
  7. I think this is true of any program that cleans out duplicate files, I only ever did it once using system mechanic a long time ago, had to reinstall everything, I learnt my lesson, and have never done it since.
  8. Englishmen, you could probably force the program to close using EndItAll, you would have to select the program in the list that appears, then click Actions, then click Close Program, if that does not work then you can force it to close by selecting Kill Program instead of Close Program. Get it here: http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6142-0.html?f...ssageID=1179692
  9. Glad to be of help oli.
  10. No, I am not sure, I was just offering a possible option for you to look into. I personally run CCleaner using default options, as I have no problems with having to log in to websites each time I visit them, so it is not a problem to me if I have my login cookies deleted. If it does turn out to be the case that certain cookies need to be added everytime you run CCleaner, then I am sure MrG will address this in the future. I will however have a play with it myself to set my mind at rest. It is an excellant program already however, and I am sure it will prove to become more excellant as time goes on, so please stick with it.
  11. No, none of that, to be honest if I had a cherished collection of mp3's and someone changed them to wma's and never told me, and then they were played back to me, I would not notice any difference.
  12. I personally can't tell the difference, and I listened over and over again, but then I am not an audiophile to any extent, although I do love music, I listen to music for 11 hours a day on weekdays and a few hours at the weekend. If there was any real difference, I am sure it would not be noticable on an mp3 player, after all we are talking about music that is listened to through earphones, rather than speakers on a good stereo system, such as I own, or on a computer with good sound qualities. I have never really been one to rate mp3 players too much, I prefer the iPod.
  13. Eldmannen, oli's problem is that he wants to convert mp3 audio files to wma audio files, which as he states can be half the size, therefore he will fit twice as many onto his mp3 player. Are you still with me at this point? I have just had a play around with cheetah audio converter and converted a 4.42 MB audio file, (one of Dj's remixes actually, but that is beside the point). First I converted Dj's remix to a 44,100 HZ, OGG file, which resulted in a file size of 4.58 MB. Then I converted Dj's remix to a 44,100 HZ WMA file, which resulted in a file size of 2.24 MB. Does this help explain why he wants to convert them to WMA now? He wants to fit more on, not less.
  14. oli, I use cheetah audio converter which is free, and very quick. http://www.cheetahburner.com/

    Dj's DAF

Thanks for such an informative reply, you know I dont have your knowledge, but all the same I like to learn, and if it had meant that I would have f****d up my computer by trying DAF, I would have still tried it anyway, it is due for a reinstall anyway. Thanks for devoting so much time to this post, I think everyone here will appreciate it. You did ask for feedback in an earlier post somewhere.
  16. For starters you do not need to reregister on sites when cookies have been deleted, you would need to login again using username and password though, there is a difference. Are you really sure CCleaner is responsible for deleting your cookies after a set amount of time? Or should you check which cookies are going to be saved each time you run CCleaner? If there was an Apply, Save, or other tab that you had missed, then the problem would have been self inflicted, i'm afraid. Englishmen tried to help you, possibly as best he could, he may well have tried to recreate the problem himself, I dont know though, but I felt your reply to him was kind of harsh. Maybe one of the other good guys here will be able to help.
  17. It seems as though you have a lot wrong with your computer that you seem to be blaming CCleaner for, I think everyone on here would agree that it is not CCleaner causing your problems. Do you also just check for viruses, thinking these are the causes of most problems? Other forms of problems are, in my case and probably many others, not so much caused by viruses, but more often than not, by other forms of malware, such as adware, spyware, hijacking, and suchlike, yet you do not make any mention of checking for these. What other anti-malware programs do you use? A thorough read of this forum would leave your computer tooled up with all the protection that you could possibly need, to help prevent problems from arising. Like they say it is no good bolting the stable door after the horse has bolted, do it first.

    Logging

I have just learnt from that as well, only thing is you can't set the option to automatically close CCleaner after cleaning, which is what I used to do.

    Dj's DAF

Dj, I have just downloaded dial-a-fix (full 13MB redist), now what do I do? I am sure the questions I am going to ask will be relevant to everyone in here, so this could be a topic for people to refer back to, or even to come to, to ask specific DAF questions. Which of the .exe files do I need to run? Are they all suitable for all versions of windows? (I maintain 98SE, 2000, ME & XP computers mainly, so I need to know which .exe files can be run on these systems). Can they be run regardless of whether or not there are currently any problems? Will there be any noticable differences after running them, or will they just make certain things run more smoothly? I notice they are mainly made by MS, so why do we not have them already, and if we dont already have them why do we need them now? If we do need them now, why do we not get them through Windows Update? Sorry for all the questions, I just like to know what I am doing to computers when I install something.
  20. The only problem that I ever had was when it deleted a registry entry that related to windows help, that was in version 1.7, as soon as the creator realised what he had done he created a fix which could be downloaded from the easycleaner website. this restored the registry entry and all was well again.
  21. Not bad, I dont think I will try them though, the boss might not like it. I think we need them sort of posts every so often to ease the misery of sorting out computer problems.
  22. The google bots are just scanning the forum as they would any other website. Ask jeeves has started appearing as well. Type englishmen into google with another name from the forum and google will bring up the results.
  23. 25 running processes and 1114 process modules is not a lot, dont worry about them though just let ad-aware do its stuff.
  24. I use CCleaner and EasyCleaner, with CCleaner I do everything, with EasyCleaner I do the Registry button, Unnecessary button, and Shortcuts button. I have been using EasyCleaner for years with no real problems, and CCleaner since last year.
