  1. What is the actual web address?, knowing this might help to solve the problem. Have you tried putting the web address in to a search engine to see if this turns up any results? Chances are you are not the first person it has happened to, so the answer is probably out there already, just waiting to be found. Have you tried deleting it from the history folder manually? Give us as much info as possible, someone will be able to help.
  2. Maybe I am being stupid here, but if you have removed a file or folder using a cleaning utility, how can you expect to right click it and select restore to bring it back again. Selecting restore from within a program is different, because the actual file would have not actually been removed, probably just renamed or moved, ready for deletion later after a preset number of restore backups have been made. EasyCleaner for example, creates 10 backups by default, after which the tenth backup is deleted to make way for a new backup. If I have read what you are trying to do as wrong then please correct me.
  3. Just out of curiosity, how many Running Processes and Process Modules do you have when performing an Ad-Aware scan? I have 35 Running Processes and 1357 Process Modules. Would this be considered as normal/average? I do appeciate everyones will be different, and there is probably no such thing as normal/average. Would be interesting to find out about others though.
  4. Should have mentioned the operating system in the original post really. It is win 2000.
  5. Thanks Tarun, BTW, as you know I signed up to your forum the other day, keep up the good work, you and DjLizard are invaluable. Wish I knew about computers at your age as much as you do,,,,,,, wish I knew as much about computers at my age as you 2 do at your age.
  6. I think that will be the best bet, only thing is I will have to go visit them again soon to find out the model number. Might do it tomorrow actually, there is a car for sale near them that i fancy, that is a subject for a totally different forum though.
  7. I bought a second hand computer for my parents today, it's not a brilliant spec but a lot better than what they had. Only trouble is, it came with a Logitech scroll wheel mouse, but the scroll wheel is not working, the buttons work fine though. It is not the mouse that should have been with the system, and has a usb plug on it which is plugging in to a ps2 socket with an adaptor. I realise it could be a faulty mouse, but could it also be that I need to get a driver for it, I checked the logitech website, hoping to find a generic driver, but could not find one, or do I just need to change a setting in windows. Thanks in advance for any help.
  8. Whilst talking of backing up the registry before performing maintenance on it, I was always (up until recently) led to believe that a new backup of the registry was made on every startup. Is this true, or was it just on 9x operating systems that this was true, and it no longer happens on NT based operating systems. If this is the case then surely it is a step backwards by Microsoft.

    Joke(s)

A woman was in a coma, she had been in it for months. Nurses were in her room giving her a blanket bath. One of them was washing her private area and noticed that there was a slight response on the monitor when she touched her. They tried it again and sure enough there was a small, recognisable movement. They went to her husband and explained what happened, telling him,"crazy as this sounds, maybe a little oral sex will do the trick and bring her out of the coma." The husband was sceptical, but they assured him that they'd close the curtains for privacy. The husband finally agreed and went into his wife's room. After a few minutes the woman's monitor flatlined, no pulse, no heart rate. The nurses ran into the room. "What happened?" they cried. The husband said ................. "I'm not sure, maybe she choked"

    Joke(s)

A lady came home to an empty house, and saw a note from her husband, addressed to her, lying on the coffee table : To my dear wife, You will surely understand that I have certain needs that you, with your 54 year old body, can no longer supply. I am very happy with you, I love you very much, and I value you as a good wife. Therefore after reading this note, I hope that you will not wrongly interpret the fact that I will be spending the evening with my 18 year old secretary at the Comfort Inn Hotel. Please don't be perturbed. I shall endeavour to be back home before midnight. Love, Hubby. When the man came home, just before the Witching hour, the house was empty and the following note addressed to him was waiting on the dining room table : To my Dear Husband, I received your note, and I thank you for your honesty. I love you too, but I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that you are also 54 years old. At the same time I would like to inform you that while you read this, I will be at the Fiesta Hotel with my tennis coach, Michael who, like your secretary is also 18 years old. As a successful businessman and with your excellent knowledge of maths, you will understand that we are in the same situation, but with one small difference.... 18 goes into 54 more times than 54 goes into 18, so don't expect me to be back much before teatime tomorrow............ Your loving Wifey.
  12. Does anyone know anything about bluetooth on mobile phones, (or cellphones if they are still called that in the U.S.)? I have heard of people being able to send messages to each other using bluetooth, seems to be the latest trend on the London Underground to send messages to strangers, quite often rude ones as well. I dont seem to be able to find this option on my phone, I can send images or songs by bluetooth, but not messages. If it helps I have a nokia 6230.
  13. Thanks Peter I forgot about unfreez, and I already have that on my computer from ages ago. Thanks Cursedbythegods, I guess it could be time for me to get gimp to see what else it can do for me.
  14. Definately not spyware that caused it, unless it is undetected spyware. One computer is my main home computer the other is the main computer where I work, both are regulary updated and scanned by me, the one at home is updated every day and was scanned last night, and the one at work is updated when I get the chance, which I have done every day this week and was scanned today. Both computers have AdAware, Spybot S&D, Ms AntiSpyware. Mine also has ZoneAlarm, AVG, SpywareGuard and SpywareBlaster. The one at work has Norton Internet Security and Anti Virus. I might put it on my other XP computer at home, even though that one is never used on the internet, just to see if it happens on that one.
  15. I don't think this is really a problem, but I thought I better check with you guys. On any machines running MS AntiSpyware, that I have put Spybot v1.4 on, I get a warning from MS AntiSpyware that a website called 139.com is trying to be added to the trusted zone, I have blocked this and everything seems OK. So I installed Spybot v1.4 on a Windows ME machine which obviously cannot have MS AntiSpyware installed on it, I then expected to see 139.com in the trusted zone but it wasn't. This made me think it must be a problem with MS AntiSpyware and not Spybot v1.4 as I first thought. Incidentally, 139.com appears to be a chinese site so visiting that site did not give me any clues. I know one of you tech guys will have an answer to this....I hope so anyway.
  16. Hey Dj Read the pages that you posted the links to, and decided to go with the MNG image filetype, only thing is after browsing around for a while I found some pages containing MNG images which would not actually appear. I was browsing with IE at the time, would these images have appeared if I was using another browser. I do, however need a format that works well in all browsers. BTW I should probably have edited my last post on this subject rather than make a new post, but am still not too clued up on forum rules, this is the first forum I have ever joined and posted to, please bear with me until I get the hang of it.
  17. Can anyone explain in simple terms what the LSP Explorer & HexDump Add-ons in Ad Aware do and how to use them?
  18. Thanks DjLizard, maybe I should have a rethink. Perhaps I am a bit archaic.
  19. Thanks TuPLaD, I did not expect anyone to do a search for me, I was hoping someone would already have and be using one that they could recommend. Once again thanks for your time.
  20. Does anybody know of a free program for creating animated gif's (I don't like paying if I don't have to). I have looked on the "Pinned:Freeware" page, but nobody has listed any yet. Any help would be much appreciated.

  22. Cursedbythegods, I had some minor problems with version 1.7, but version 2.0 seems ok
  23. I have used EasyCleaner for quite a few years now, it seems to do a fairly decent job of cleaning the registry, amongst other things. It is a small program written by a guy in Finland, who has written many other apps, and is available from his website below. EasyCleaner No doubt someone will find faults in it, but hey, that is what we are all here for isn't it.
  24. Quick tip: If anyone does decide to leave their pc on all the time, turn the monitor off to save power and keep electricity bills down, even if only by a small amount.
  25. It does not take too long for good programs to spread around the world, when it is represented in good magazines and on good websites globally, the results can be amazing. Installed CCleaner on my son's 18 month old laptop the other day, even I was amazed at the results, even though I have been using it since it's release. Very good program from good old UK.
