    Ram

Craig, You would not want to buy memory with a slower speed than 533MHz, because then all the memory would run at that slower speed Have a read here for more info on the types of memory. xbrianx, have a read here for more info on mixing different size memory sticks.

Yes, you can mix different sizes of memory, it is recommended that the largest goes in the first slot though. The first slot is the slot closest to the processor. The maximum that you can put in is determined by your operating system and motherboard though. Go here and use the Crucial Memory Advisor? Tool to find out what will work for you.
  3. Hi Cyberfox, nice to see you over here now, not that I'm here much at the moment, but I hope to be here a lot more in the new year.
  4. My latest, thanks hazelnut for the pic.

    Forum links

Nope. I got what I wanted, an image that I can use as a link to the forums.

    Forum links

Do you have one that would be good to use as a link to the forums, rather than saying "Download CCleaner" or "Get CCleaner"?

    emachines

I have worked on a few eMachines in my time, never encountered any problems with them from a hardware point of view. Actually we have two of them where I work, one is about 6 years old running ME, the other about 2 years old running XP, they are still both going strong though. Maybe it is the TLC they get from me. All that I have done with them from a hardware point of view is install more memory, that was only due to the fact that we run some quite memory intensive software on them. I think for $250 you could do a lot worse.
  8. Aaron, delete this registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger\Policies Then try logging in, it might just work.
  9. Yep, you were right, it was Comodo firewall stopping it. Now I just have to figure out why.
  10. I seem to have this problem with vnunet lately, although after days of trying I will eventually end up managing to download whatever it is I am after. I have never emailed ComputerActive about it though, ..........YET.
  11. Microsoft Windows generates that error Tarq, and then closes CCleaner. Sorry hutchismutch, have no idea why it happens though.
  12. LOL, yeah. Hence the reason I now use NVU rather than Frontpage!
  13. That is so true, there is no need to forget about one forum, because another one has sprung up.
  14. Interesting read. No comments from MrG in here about it though. Strange. I find that once you have recommended it to people and they use it, they never look back. Although I still use EasyCleaner every so often as well, which should be getting a major update soon I think.

    ouch

Congratulations lotw. That 9 months soon passed, I remember when you first announced that you were joining the police, (I think it was on LS, and MP gave you lots of advice).
  16. No need for goodbyes really, you can all go to his forums as well to keep in touch.
  17. Cool, glad it was ok. I'll pass the thanks on to my son, who did it.
  18. You would need a new Moderator button with a smaller font as well, so that it would match the Spyware Mod button. Something like below: Oh, and the Spyware Mod one might not look quite right due to the tails on the p and y. Anyway, what do you think?

    help

No, he meant change the theme itself. When you see the box below, click the themes tab, then click the downwards pointing arrow next to your selected theme, choose another theme, see if you can see your start menu, then if you can see it, change it back to your normal theme and hopefully all will be good.
  20. Getting back on topic, how are you getting on with FF, Mudd?
  21. Really? I think I could get a lot of use out of it, I know I could of done with it in the past. Btw, thanks Chris.
  22. Yep, we do call it a bonnet. I have just gone back in time as far as cars are concerned, from a 1995 car that was over complicated to a 1992 car that has hardly anything under the bonnet. I now enjoy working on cars again, computers are second best now for the time being. As for FF, you will enjoy and you will get all the help you need here.
  23. I know the score there Mudd, my dad who is 74, (the same age bracket as you I believe), would rather strip down and rebuild a car than deal with new technology. Although I have put FF on his computer, but I doubt he uses it.
  24. Are you saying that you have never tried FF yet Mudd? If so, you really should, that was the reason I joined this forum in the first place because so many people here were so keen on it and I had been using it for so long before joining here that it just seemed natural to join.
