Been using the shutdown icons that Humpty described for years, but mine are safely tucked away up in the top right hand corner of my screen. There is no chance of accidently clicking them then. They are a godsend though, makes things so much quicker.

Interesting reading there Andavari. I guess I better go to bed now. I somehow manage on about 5 hours sleep, 5 nights a week, and about 8 or 9 hours sleep twice a week, and yes, I do notice the effects of not getting enough sleep. I think it might be time to try to change my sleep habits now. *yawn* Damn I'm tired.

Does your video card have a fan attached? The fan could be blocked with dust, thus causing it to not spin, or the fan could not be working at all. This could cause the graphics card to overheat and possibly cause lag. It is a long shot though, as it might not even be graphics card related problem. Also is there an upgrade for your graphics card software on the manufacturers website, that is something worth checking as well. Getting back to fans though, it is always worth checking them every so often to make sure they are clean and spinning properly, also check any heatsinks that they might be screwed to, they can become clogged as well. I personally have had to clean the graphics card fan and a processor fan and heatsink within the last six months.

They're "Service Quality Monitor" data collection timer files created from Windows Live Messenger, and are apparently safe to delete. I personally would just leave them for the time being though.

You could always get rid of it the proper way, download TweakUI from here. When you run it, click Desktop in the left hand pane, then remove the tick from Microsoft Outlook in the right hand pane.

I can't actually add anything to this thread that would explain why it happened etc. Just wanted to state that the sound on my son's laptop stopped working yesterday for no apparent reason, reinstalling the drivers worked for him though.
