  1. When I try to run Chksks, McAfee scan, or Spybot, the PC freezes and gives me the blue screen of death again before the scan completes. It would be nice how to fix this. Any ideas? Hi Condor, Krit gave you good advice. From the way things have gone so far,it seems that you may have serious hard drive problems. The best thing to do now would be to back up what ever you can before it gets worse. The reasoning is that anything that tries to scan your disk completely runs into problems. You need some hardware checking by a technician. davey
  2. After using TweakUI, did you Log off and then Log on for those changes to take effect? If not do it.The idea is to change the options you have to and then Click on Apply and OK. Then the changes for all those settings in TweakUI will be put into effect. Some changes require log off and log back on to take effect. Believe me, my user folders were out of wack also but I straightened them out. If you accidentally called the Recent Documents folder the Shared Documents folder in your reply, tell me. If so, did you manually delete the shortcuts. The Desktop.ini file is hidden in that folder also.Just make sure that there are no other hidden files in there. Did you try creating some more Recent documents and try to delete them using CCleaner? Is the Clear list button still greyed out on the Advanced tab in Customize Start Menu? davey
  3. Many things may be strange. For now lets stick to Recent Documents. Do you know how to find this file ? Do you know how to change Folders options to show hidden files also? Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\username\Recent and see what is in that folder. There should only be Shortcuts to all the documents you have viewed plus a hidden Desktop.ini file.Anything else in there should not be there.Note what it is and save it somewhere else if you want it.Delete everything except the Desktop.ini . You see I really don't know your experience level.I may have overwhelmed you with the last post but I can step you through things step by step.We all were born naked. No difference now. davey
  4. I am no "gamer" but from my research a lot of those sites don't want to wait for any download manager. Just Save it and extract and use their installer.Normally everything goes to 1 folder like CCleaner does. Good luck, davey

    Searches

Windows search works for me but you have to have Indexing service on Automatic or Manual and make sure it is turned in Search options and the Hard drives you want to search. Not sure about PIM though. I'll skip the details also but not only did I find the text file I lost but I also found the Folder it was stored in.Why my Desktop folder ended up in Cookies I don't know but one search on key words in context and I solved two problems at once. Yes,I was very happy and relieved. davey
  6. Hi Jeff, I agree with your request to have certain functions hidden.I also think others have requested this also and I don't doubt that something is already in the works. This would also allow locking any desired option in the Cleaner or Tools or Options functions. This would allow better control for Commercial users and technicians like you. davey
  7. Hi Laurent, What operating systems does CCleaner work with?Fully tried and tested with Windows 98/NT4/ME/2000/XP/2003/Vista. It's currently partially compatible with 64bit XP and Vista, there are a few non-critical issues which are still being worked on. There are no Mac or Linux versions. You apparently don't have the necessary software to use CCleaner in non-English language. Go to OPTIONS > SETTINGS > language and select English . You should now be able to run CCleaner. You may have to down load and select English when you install. Download from this link. http://www.CCleaner.com Free The CCleaner Guide is at this link. http://www.ccleanerbeginnersguide.com/ Good Luck, davey
  8. Hi Tom, There seems to be some problem with Administrative priveleges in CCleaner running on Vista. It seems that some logical check is backwards. Such as the following threads. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=101611 http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=101645 Try right clicking on the CCleaner icon and select Run AS. If that doesn't work provide the following. The following info will help others to possibly come up with a solution. These answers help to evaluate the problem.Just fill in the answers next to the questions? Provide a list of your CCleaner.ini file.( Tick option for Save settings to INI file at Options > Advanced then close CCleaner. This file will be created in C:\Program Files\CCleaner folder.) Are you running with Administrator privileges ? Have you tried Run AS ? CCleaner version ? OS,edition ,32bit or 64bit and version ? Browsers and ver.? Security software and ver? Other data you think might be relevant? What did you do and then what happened? In your situation do have 4 administartors and 1 standard user? Thanks, davey Don't forget a new update to the CCleaner Guide came out Feb. 06,2008. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=1504 Bookmark it and save in your Favorites. 9. Hello anthro, CCleaner does things things that most programs don't do.Many anti-virus programs get "suspicious" about it.As you can tell from this thread, sometimes there are "false positives" and sometimes CCleaner gets deleted or quarantined. Zone Alarm will probably make some tweaks to adjust for this. No one has reported an actual infection caused by CCleaner as long as you only download from Filehippo.com or Alternative download. I wouldn't worry at all. davey
  10. If you don't have TweakUI than get it from MS and also the applet from Kelly's.They both work on WinXp SP2 PRO or HOME ED. TweakUI is a valuable tool for all XP users and others even Vista. 1. Download and install Tweak UI: Tweak UI is an application provided by Microsoft. With this tool, one can customize the user interface of Windows XP easily. Please download Tweak UI from the following link: http://download.microsoft.com/download/whi...wertoySetup.exe? Then, double-click the downloaded .exe file to install Tweak UI. http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm Line 1 for TWEAKUI applet for Control Panel. WinXp, not sure if works for Vista. Try the following to Undo Clear Recent Documents. http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm Line 70 Clear Recent Documents UNDO.Click on UNDO. In TweakUI set the settings like I mentioned in the previous reply. After setting options don't forget to click on Apply button. Some people forget to do this. Also note that some settings are per user and require log off and log on. If you use TweakUI theses KB articles may apply to you also. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810869 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/233518 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/274849 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/284896 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/886217 APPLIES TO ? 11. It's been awhile but it seems to me I could wipe the "baddie" with AVG 7.5.It is what I always do. davey P.S. In AVG 7.5 you can wipe the objects listed in the Virus Vault.
  12. Aren't you the lucky one ? It seems like you get all these pop-ups and I hardly ever get any. We must be updating differently or something.I always update automatically or from the AVG 7.5 Control Center screen. I updated today and did not get any pop-up from AVG. I use only IE7 and the Windows Firewall and SpywareBlaster. Guess I might as well switch over to AVG 8.0 and see how it goes.Memory wise and scan speed. davey
  13. Perhaps there are other Firefox/Mozilla users that know this answer. davey

Hello Bomor, Do you really have that many Gigs on your system? Make sure about what is in those Temp files?Thats an awful lot of Gigs. Whatever you do, don't use Secure Delete option or you will be waiting a number of hours or days for it to finish. You better buy a bunch of Trash Bags and a shovel to clean up your room after CCleaner gets rid of all those Gigs. You may also notice a large increase in static electricity in your room.Be careful touching those door knobs and such. Good Luck, davey
  19. Hey Chunker, If you have that checked under Internet Explorer,it is also supposed to do it also for Firefox/Mozilla. "Supposed to " is the key here.Do you have that option checked? Good Luck, davey
  20. Hello Tom, Welcome to the forum. Don't forget to read the CCleaner Guide. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=1504 Bookmark it and save in your Favorites. CCleaner only cleans for the current user. Now how did 700 MB get in there?Who knows.Stuff happens!!! Have a look in there and see what it is first. Nothing valuable just delete it. Good Luck, davey
  21. I will do some more reseach and others may help also. Make sure you leave the option on in your Start up menu. I have had more problems with My Recent Documents than anything else in my computer. If you have TweakUI make sure that option is also set under Explorer tweaks and also make sure Clear document history on exit is off. See you later. davey
  22. Hi otaku, Like HotDog is saying it sounds like an overheating problem. Do you have software to monitor your system temperatures and maybe cooling fans? Try using those during the day to see what is happening. It sounds like cooling problems but it can also be Power Supply problems. Clean out any dust and debris from inside the computer and make sure there is enough room for good ventilation. If this doesn't help eliminate the problem, then you better contact your computer builder. As a matter of fact you should contact them right now,so it is documented that you are having a problem. Good luck, davey
  23. Hello Jacoba, This is indeed interesting. Run ERUNT and/or System Restore and create a current Restore Point. Now you are at least backed up where you are now. Run ERDNT or System Restore to a time previous to running CCleaner. See if your login now works. No matter what the result please provide the following. The following info will help others to possibly come up with a solution. These answers help to evaluate the problem.Just fill in the answers next to the questions? Provide a list of your CCleaner.ini file.( Tick option for Save settings to INI file at Options > Advanced then close CCleaner. This file will be created in C:\Program Files\CCleaner folder.) Are you running with Administrator privileges? Have you tried right click on the icon and select Run as ? CCleaner version ? OS,edition ,32bit or 64bit and version ? Browsers and ver.? 24. Hot Dog, I don't want anybody misinterpreting my statement.I did not say SP3 is no good. I informed the member that he may be experiencing the same problem I ran into. I would like to know if other members have been to MS update recently and have had install problems with the new Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool like I encountered as explained above. I would do this before next "Patch Tuesday". davey
  25. Why not purchase it using your girlfriends ID?With her permission of course. Otherwise go for it.Mommasoft will still love her babies no matter what mischief they try to get into. davey
