  1. And it looks like somebody did what I suggested. Just did another check for updates, and it tells me I'm using the current version. It is no longer telling me to update to an older version. It seems all of a sudden everything is ok now. I'm running 5.02.5101 which I'm assuming is the latest version.
  2. But if I so what you suggest, I will "lose" all current settings, all the bookmarks that I've saved, and all the items that I've excluded. That would not be acceptable to me. I think ccleaner should fix the problem on their end as I see many others have reported the same problem with the latest updates. That makes more sense.
  3. Ok, did a little more research. Ccleaner tells me I'm running version 5.02.510. Yet when I check for an update within Ccleaner it tells me a new version 5.01.5705 is avaiable. If I download that I get version 5.02, not what it tells me is available. Something must be hosed up on your update page?
  4. Same problem with mine. New version 5.02 available, but it does install. But then constantly telling me new version is avaiable. Have updated to newer version for many years with no problem All of a sudden won't update anymore. My OS is also Win 7 64-bit.
  5. I check for a new version almost every day. Yesterday I checked from within the program and it said a new version was available, so I downloaded and installed. Today again it says a new version was available. Downloaded and installed once more. Now it "still" says a new version available. (version 5.02). Just doesn't want to upgrade to this version. Any suggestions?
  6. You're starting to sound like Mr. Obummer, putting the "blame" on something else. I saw where somebody else started this post and has the same problem? Guess that has no bearing? Also I've "easily updated CCleaner" probably over 30 times in the last couple of years. I've updated other programs well over 100 times in the last few years. Again, no problems. If you're gonna exclude those who are not running SP1, you're gonna lose a lot of customers. I'll be happy to just run the last good update, one that works.
  7. No thank you, no need for that SP update. It's only a "cumulative" of all updates which I already have. Almost lost my pc when it tried to install that a couple of years ago. It just wouldn't take. I have all the needed security updates and wouldn't take a chance of trying to install that. Since my machine seems to work perfectly, I just don't want to take that chance of screwing it up.
  8. Did some reasearch, Running the original w7 64 bit no sevice packs installed. My windows update does not give one for me, just a whole heck of a lot of security updates, but no actual service packs. Hope that is what you wanted to know?
  9. I'm running W7 64 bit. Sorry but don't know what you mean by service patch levels. Been using CCleaner for many years and have never once had a problem until this one. Running back with 3.23 and everything is perfect like it always has.
  10. The problem appears to be something in version 3.24 not closing after use. Then on a subsequent usage, it won't open as there is already an instance running. Running task manager shows 2 instances running. The latest can be closed via end task, but the original first instance cannot. Thus the problem. Only a system restart will clear that first instance but after using the program again, you're right back to not closing and being able to start again. No such thing with 3.23.
  11. I'm having the same problem with the new version. Had to do a system restart 3 times today after trying to use version 3.24.1850. Finally gave up and reverted back to the previous version 3.23. Have never had a problem with CCleaner until this last version.
  12. I thank you very much for your detailed answer to my post. Guess I've been using the program in the wrong mannner for the last couple of years. I've been doing exactly what you mentioned. Woe is me, created a lot of headaches for myself. Wish there was somekind of pdf manual that we could download to fully understand the implications of all the options like the VSS option. Have no idea of even what that is. Guess I'll play around a little and see what I can figure out. Thanks again for your informative post.
  13. This person is not alone, the same thing started happening to me. Defraggler is completely worthless. It takes hours and hours to do a simple defrag and it doesn't know how to handle system volume information. Then it starts showing the size as many GB with 15 to 25 percent of your harddrive fragmented. Delete them, created a new one, it defrags fine, go back a few hours later and it's back to an enormous size and highly fragmented. Yet, windows defrag shows no such thing and another program that I found also shows no such thing. I can analize with defraggler, show 40 or so MB fragmented, defrag with the other program (in only 23 seconds!) analizing with defraggler now shows 0 at 0 percent. I'm at the point to get rid of defraggler all together. I laugh when you defragment and after about 2 hours it gets down to 1 minute remaining. That 1 minute remaining last for about 15 minutes in total time!!!!!!!!!
  14. I'm sorry to say that something terrible has happened to defraggler. I've been using it for quite a few years and it was always pretty good. Now the time to run a defrag is terrible. Plus the the time reporting left is absolutely worthless. Not to mention defraggler seems to really report system volume information as horribly fragmented. I've deleted all restore points (which includes volume info) and started new. After a few hours it is back to a terrible fragmented state. I'm talking from 15 to 25 percent of my hard drive and many GB of size. Yet, windows defrag shows no such thing. I also downloaded another defrag utility and it also shows no such thing. In fact, where defraggler takes from 2 to 3 hours to run, my new trial program does it in 25 to 30 seconds. And it does a good job. I analize with defraggler and see maybe 30 to 40 MB, run the other program for 24 seconds, then analize with defraggler again, and it shows 0 at 0 percent. Somebody has completely ruined what used to be a pretty good program. When defraggler started acting this way, I opted to not create restore points. But now, I can go back to restore points as the program I have now knows how to handle them. I also notive on these boards that many others are experiencing the same thing as I am which tells me you have a huge problem with your program.
  15. Thanks for the information. I completed the install and ran a defrag with no problems completing. I searched for this information but couldn't find it anywhere. Thanks again!
