  1. I'm sure you'll find this link interesting Dennis as it explains the reasons why some revert to PIO (Programmed Imput Output) mode from the DMA (Direct Memory Access) mode. A scratched CD or overburning can do it. Windows xp will turn off DMA mode for a device if for instance 6 timeouts occur during certain data transfers. This is why I ended up having to uninstall Nero a couple of years ago, as on my system, while burning, timeouts occured and after a while things would screw up, and PIO mode (the slow one ) would result. http://winhlp.com/?q=node/10
  2. After looking a bit more, deleted emails are kept in .dbx folders on your computer, in fact all of them are. Once you compact all folders, as Outlook Express sometimes asks you to do, there is less chance of recovering them These folders only show in a start>search situation if you have it set to show hidden files and folders. Unfortunatly you can corrupt OE by attempting to open the .dbx files, so I didn't try to open mine. So try .dbx files and failing that there are programs to recover deleted emails but they are not free.

  4. Others have mentioned this zone alarm key, also problems with fixing issues, see here http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showto...p;hl=zone+alarm

  6. A timely reminder Andy of just how devastating crack sites can be. People think they are safe if they have av or malware protection, but as you have pointed out, this particular nasty has serious consequences for downloaders
  7. I read one remark from someone, who said he thougth the only difference it would make was that the government would put up the price of power!
  8. I also noticed the imgjax problem, good job we've still got screenshots.cc (at least for now.) Dennis, who is your internet provider?
  9. Good luck with the move Firery, will look forward to your progress reports
  10. HP scanning options don't work well on vista yet, and there are problems with the HP director. Only thing I can suggest apart from changing printers is to try going into the device manager, finding your printer and asking windows to update the driver using a windows one only. Then okay your way out and reboot. This will make windows load it's own driver which MAY work when the HP one doesnt.
  11. Looks like the real thing to me rridgely. As far as I can see according to the link, you are right.

Due to the fact MrG has "solved" this issue, and the number of pointless posts made this thread is now closed
  13. jjsan, Some people are having a few problems with temp files and the new version and have gone back to a previous version until a new one comes out. Do NOT tick all the boxes in CCleaner without knowing what you are doing as this could change things you don't want changed. Info can be found here http://www.internetrotsyourbrain.com/ccleanerbeginnersguide/
  14. If you have a read here, in particular the CCleaner information in the contents list, it should give you the info you need. http://www.internetrotsyourbrain.com/ccleanerbeginnersguide/

Interesting one this TM. In England we do say, or write rather, analyse (ie to separate into its parts in order to indentify its stucture) And then we would say the result of this was an analysis. As fredvries says , it's because we spell things differently! Also TM, we were speaking this side of the pond before you lot over there!!

Jack, people are able to read the info on the download site themselves, and don't really need a running commentary.
  18. Glad you got it sorted Bob. Yes, unlocker is a handy little tool. Have a stiff lemonade and boot into safe mode so you can see it's not really a scary place, just in case you ever HAVE to do it.

Meterman, that is a list of programs you have on your computer, and that section, tools, gives you the choice of deleting them if they are no longer wanted anymore via CCleaner. Have a read here for more info http://www.internetrotsyourbrain.com/ccleanerbeginnersguide/ welcome to the forum
  21. Don't worry about safe mode Bob, it's just windows without other stuff to bother it being loaded. Sometimes makes it much easier to do things with other services and drivers not being loaded. If using xp turn off the computer, turn it back on and tap the F8 key until it comes up with the Windows options. Choose safe mode via your arrow keys and then press enter. It will load differently, don't worry. Then when you get to the desktop try to delete via add and remove again. When you want to shut down just do it as you normally would, start, turn off computer. It will restart again as normal, not safe mode. As for add and remove programs, this is accessed by start> control panel> add or remove, what happened when you tried this in normal mode?
  22. I had a quick try of Returnil but decided that I am okay with just using sandboxie as a single virtulization app, wouldn't like to be without it now. As I sometimes beta test things I use FD-ISR as I find this more suitable for MY needs as I can boot to it even if windows won't boot. Sometimes a plus when beta testing! I know Dennis uses Returnil and likes it, although I don't think he has Sandboxie as well. As I've said a few times Slowday, each to his own, whatever suits YOU, and suits YOUR system
  23. I understand how you feel about Sandboxie, it's another level of security and easy to use. I would feel very vunerable surfing without it. But Slowday....CCleaner is still our friend
  24. Have you tried removing the program in safe mode via add and remove programs? Also try unlocker http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/
