  1. Thanks your post reminded me to reinstall Folding@Home.
  2. Been using Portable FF3 for about 3 months now and everything works great. Most of my extensions are compatible and the few that aren't will be forced on and tested when I need them, but haven't yet. Using the portable version because of my failing disk, to lessen writes to it. I'm almost out of spare sectors and things should get interesting.

    Freeware!

Sherpya's Win32 MPlayer builds - MPlayer compiles by sherpya, also MEncoder, FFmpeg and MPlayer win32 GUI(SMPlayer is the best)
  5. BTW don't use the converter, it's not free. Not really ff3 compatible yet is Unplug which is good to have as a backup if for some reason Downloadhelper fails.
  6. Downloadhelper for firefox is the only one I've ever needed. It works great and several of it's detection methods are configurable in terms of what formats are detected. Many common ones are already entered, but you may want to add more, I did. Read the faq http://www.downloadhelper.net/faq.php
  7. I have a feeling this one will win the poll

    HWMON

    Motherboard Monitor is another one.
  9. Oh really...nevermind then
  10. How many warnings and errors did the recuva page have before fixed? I didn't visit the link before it was fixed.
  11. I don't know about banning techniques so sorry if I'm way off, but is banning by MAC address an option? Probably more useless than IP banning if it is. Dialuppers would be immune I think. Does the MAC address ever even get passed?
  12. Symantec is like a big thing that needs to devour things to stay alive.
  13. What is it that makes you want to use a PDF editor? I never used one myself so I don't know... But if you want a editor with spell checking that's lighter than OOo Writer you could try AbiWord. More info please if i'm way off here...
  14. Try Unlocker on the drive. If that for some reason fails try Unlocker on everything on the drive including the System Volume Information and Recycler folders.
  15. Post a HijackThis log in the Spyware Hell section.
  16. BTW- Run->dxdiag will run \WINDOWS\system32\dxdiag.exe This can be useful if you are suffering from a/v problems. I'm sure this is well known but some people don't know about it.
  17. As long as no firewall or other such things intercept the wake traffic then it should work fine. I don't know much about the protocol but UDP 0, 7, and/or 9 seem to be the ports used. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake-on-LAN#Magic_Packet

Imagine - Very fast yet feature rich image viewer. I link to the forum because the site isn't working for some reason.
  19. I use the Quickjava addon and browse with js and java off unless I need it for something. Much faster browsing too.

    Freeware!

I try to stay as up to date as I can with them and maybe once I had a problem that may have been due to using them, but it could have been due to my failing hard disk(causing many problems, very well could be this). They won't crash left and right if that's what you mean. Generally stable.

Get the newer smplayer.exe and qtxml4.dll here: ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/smplayer/windows/ ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/smplayer/source/ Edit: Video EQ can be soft. or hard. (in pref's) How to compile smplayer on windows
  22. Capture the traffic with Wireshark. I don't use sb s&d.
  23. I don't really use word processors, but regularly use the mentioned Notepad++, ConTEXT as well as PSPad. I decide which tasks would be better done in different editors. Not really an all in one editor from what I've seen. I've tried out Office '07, liked the new ribbon in Word and felt like it could make one more productive, but OOo Writer has many pluses to it. I don't need either though, the most powerful thing I've ever had to use was Abiword. Long ago. Edit2: Just reread original post, OOo Writer dev versions Pwn old Word versions. Unless you can't risk losing something or whatever because of the dev status, then I still think stable OOo Writer is better than using an old Word. idk.
  24. This is because sandboxie has to copy files needed (written/access times) by firefox when it starts up to the sandbox folder. This is a normal delay when larger apps are started sandboxed. If it really bothers you maybe portable firefox will start up faster sandboxed. Probably not...
