  1. If your talking about files attached to emails Axcrypt can create a self decrypting exe.
  2. FEBE works perfectly for me.
  3. ^Were they in the customize window? Mine were
  4. Try changing 'Audio device to use' in the properties for 'speakers' in the 'devices' tab of wmp options. Try disabling the computers audio in the 'sound, video and game controllers' section of the Device manager, reboot, re-enable it, reboot. Try reinstalling DirectX. Go to wmp options->plugins tab->Audio DSP, is there anything there? Try reinstalling the audio driver. Run-> dxdiag.exe any errors on the Sound tab? Try changing the acceleration level. Use the Test DirectSound button.
  5. I'm forced to write this in IE because pos Firefox crashed as soon as it loaded. I managed to keep it open, but it won't load any page, and trying will freeze it. Opening the bookmarks sidebar freezes and crashes it as well as trying to open the add-ons window. Safe mode does the same, except worse. Closing it closes the window but the process keeps eating more and more memory until it crashes numerous other running apps. This happens with v3, and v2. Killing firefox.exe has become routine. If it were not for the addons I would dump firefox permanentally as it really is a pile of crap and gets worse with every update.
  6. I've heard of this too, never tried yet http://www.microsuck.com/content/ms-hidden-files.shtml
  7. Does unchecking 'Custom files and folders' fix it?
  8. Testtesttest edit: numerous other forum tabs open. posted instantly Although sometimes I do experience this problem
  9. Control panel->administrative tools->event viewer look at the 'application' possibly the 'internet explorer' or 'system' areas for any wmp errrors during attempted playback times, if found right click->properties for more info. maybe it'll produce some type of error code.
  10. install k-lite mega codec pack, maybe it'll jar something Does the event log show anything about wmp while trying to play files?
  11. Standby & Hibernate are like pillsbury grands biscuits, Flaky.
  12. I use Sandboxie for suspicious things, Winpatrol plus in tray, Clamwin for on demand mem/file scanning + VirusTotal, HijackThis, GMER + blacklight + rootkit revealer for rootkits, Currports to quickly find any processes w/ open ports that don't have version info & icons, xp firewall ...and then Wireshark or any other of the billion tcp/udp apps out there, and then: Openedfilesview dtaskmanager process explorer/monitor & autoruns advanced process termination & fileassassin cause I was too lazy to get some dll killbox needed after a while; EDIT: forgot mvps Hosts file for their respective purposes if needed... Damn sure ain't "All-round" LOL
  13. Try Sherlock to find broken codecs Maybe try uninstalling version 11, then install 10, reboot, uninstall 10, reinstall 11. reboot Do alternative directshow players play the files that won't play in wmp? Be sure to temporarily disable any internal filters etc. on the player (MPC, Zoom, etc.) Try playing the files in the old 6.4 wmp (Run->mplayer2)
  14. The description for photoshop cs3 says cs2.
  15. I need a sort of tiny firewall. One that blocks defined applications' internet access, but not a full featured in/out firewall. Just a small simple outgoing access preventer. My last resort would be having to add the ip's to the hosts file.
  16. I tri-boot most of the time, with xp, my current main distro and a "testing" distro in which I do things to screw it up. I need windows because my s-video out doesn't work in linux, I've tried everything. 915resolution seems to limit my shared video memory to 32mb, while the xp driver can use up to 128mb. Gotta love Intel.
  17. I don't think there is yet for mac, maybe linux either. The windows version gets things first, like system encryption, with linux and mac following. It will happen though.
  18. One of the most simple ways would be to bury the file in an insanely large amount of obscure folders in a 'hidden' and 'system' directory, and disable the showing of system and optionally hidden files in Folder options or whatever it's called. Then, you should be able to enter the full path to the file in truecrypt and mount it, but explorer wouldn't show it.
  19. The file can be deleted, moved, rename just like a regular file. However it is not a flaw in truecrypt, as the data would still be secure. There is no end-all way to keep a file from being deleted, but there are many programs and methods that can help.
  20. The AMD intel power driver bug blue-screened my brothers pavillion.
  21. Test the ram http://www.memtest.org/ EDIT: Found this
