Other than Online Armour and Comodo, what's the firewall of choice these days? Interested in 3rd party, free firewalls only.

Paragon Disk Manager seems to be a good one. I've only used it once or twice, but DennisD knows a lot more about than I do. Maybe he will comment.

Is it generally safe to delete duplicate files -- or could that be asking for trouble?

Other than for Dial-A-Fix, are there any other good little utility apps that will tweak and repair Windows OS, correct other various system issues -- and possibly even scan for and resolve conflicts?

When you install IE7Pro, is it automatically integrated in IE7 -- or how does it work?

Thanks for update clarification, Anthony. I guess the fact that Antivir has no e-mail scanner isn't too much of a problem if you're using an online e-mail service such as gmail or yahoo mail -- right? One other thing . . . how is Antivir's detection rate and cleanup of any problems compared with AVG 7.5? I'm still using AVG (commercial) with some time yet before the expiration -- so, I'm just curious and trying to think ahead a little.

Does Antivir include automatic definition updates, or are they manual?

I've never used Keepass, but Roboform works very well.

On my Windows XP machine, I have the "Power Options" settings (Control Panel), set to go into "Standby" after 1 hour of inactivity. However, it never seems to activate -- never goes to Standby. I've tried different time options, but that doesn't seem to help. A while back it was working fine, but for some reason, it no longer does. Any thoughts as to why this won't kick in the way it's supposed to?

I've only been using this little app a couple days now, but so far, it seems to be working great from me on my XP machine. I do a lot of audio work, which at times, can be fairly memory intensive.

Has anyone ever used the online backup service, "Carbonite?" They get a fair amount of publicity, but it's not a free service. If you've used them, I was just wondering what kind of experience you've had?

I don't use Windows Defender, so I have experienced that problem. I've only been using it since yesterday when Slowday posted it, but so far, it seems like a slick little memory utility -- very different from other memory managers. It's totally transparent and doesn't use any resources -- just shows up periodically and very quickly does its thing -- then disappears again. Nothing to set -- nothing to fiddle with. Seems like an especially GREAT solution for anyone experiencing memory leak problems.

If I'm not mistaken, I think the default setting is 30 minutes -- not 30 seconds.

Thanks for the link, Slowday. I've only had this running for a short time, but it seems like a great little program -- quite different from any other memory manager I've ever tried. Actually, Corona, there's not a lot of tweaking to do -- and this is not a memory resident program running all the time in the background. Actually, it's only called for about every 30 minutes (default) by the Windows Task Scheduler -- runs for just a few seconds -- then goes away. If you want to change the frequency it runs, you can do so in Windows Task Scheduler (Advanced). By the way, I would suggest that anybody interested in trying this program should read the info on the website -- it was written by the app creator. He gives some insight as to how it works.

Thanks for trying to help, Dennis -- I really appreciate it. I'm no longer worrying about it too much because I really haven't experienced any problems. That folder has a bunch of stuff in it (some dlls, a few .exe files and even a couple .sys files). But, maybe they were just used during the original install of the Graphics Controller. Anyway, I've sort of put it out of my mind -- at least for now (or until I have a problem ). For some reason, I'm thinking that the original location might have been in the C:\ root directory. How it got to my external E:\ drive is indeed a mystery??? Thanks again for taking the time to look into it, though.

I had the following folder on my XP/Intel computer: "Intel® 82845G FL GE PE GV Graphics Controller" For some reason, that entire folder (several dlls, a few exe files and a couple sys files) is now on my external hard drive (E:\) -- and I no longer see it anywhere on my C:\ drive. I don't know why or how it got there, but I don't think it's where it belongs. I use that external drive (E:\) only to manually backup selected things from my C:\ drive -- and I didn't knowingly move that folder to the external drive. Can anyone tell me where that folder should be located on my C:\ drive -- and how to move it back?

Update worked fine for me -- no problems at all.

Apparently, BurnAware has been sold to BurnAware Technologies. They now have three versions of BurnAware (Express, Home and the new Professional) -- each with a more realistic pricing structure. It also looks like the life of the free version may be limited, but it is still available here.
