jpeg 0
Updated to CCleaner 3.11.1541 downloaded from both FileHippo and Piriform on Windows 7 64 bit. CCleaner now always crashes when attempting to empty the recycle bin and fails to delete the files in it, both when there are files in it and when it's already empty. If the empty recycle bin option is not selected then CCleaner runs successfully.

jpeg 0
Your bin may be at fault and needs resetting. Instructions. Windows will create a new bin at reboot. It seems strange that downgrading to 3.10 it would run without crashing if that was the case, but the issue is gone. Thanks.

Bug Fixers MrT 0 Posted September 27, 2011 Bug Fixers Share Posted September 27, 2011 I am sorry to hear that cleaning RB is causing you problems with CCleaner v3.11. We haven't been able to reproduce this issue. We are working on that. Could someone send us a Memory Dump File created by this issue? This will definitely expedite our work. Please keep us posted of any further detail you might have. Thank you for your support
Lester Ingber 0
Same problem on BOTH of our HP dv8t's under Win7 Ultimate x64. I never had such a problem with ccleaner before this last version. Lester
Lester Ingber 0
I emptied the recycle bin on both of our PCs, as suggested by kroozer, and indeed this worked fine. Lester
gordy54 0
I just installed v3.11, and it makes a grunting noise trying to access A: drive with the empty recycle bin checked. Reverted back to v3.10 now. Using XP SP2 system.

Moderators Andavari 1 Posted September 27, 2011 Moderators Share Posted September 27, 2011 Well version 3.11 does annoying make the floppy drive access for some reason each and every time when using 'Cleaner->Run Cleaner'. It used to only do that when a secure deletion mode was enabled. I hope Piriform can get rid of that behaviour.
Moderators Andavari 1 Posted September 27, 2011 Moderators Share Posted September 27, 2011 I just installed v3.11, and it makes a grunting noise trying to access A: drive with the empty recycle bin checked. Reverted back to v3.10 now. Using XP SP2 system. That's a very good find, and thank you for sharing that info! Unticking/disabling the cleaner 'Empty Recycle Bin' gets rid of that floppy drive access on my system which I'll leave unchecked until it's fixed.

FJMcNasty 0
Haven't specifically tried to empty Recycle Bin, though it is ticked as a regular cleaning task along with many others. And I don't have a floppy drive. However CC 3.11 analyses OK but crashes when attempting to clean. Below is a copy of my Event Log Viewers account of the situation: Faulting application name: CCleaner64.exe, version: 3.11.0.1541, time stamp: 0x4e7b96bf Faulting module name: USP10.dll, version: 1.626.7601.17514, time stamp: 0x4ce7c9f5 Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x000000000006db75 Faulting process id: 0x1644 Faulting application start time: 0x01cc7d81242d9241 Faulting application path: C:\Win\PiriForm\CCleaner\CCleaner64.exe Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\USP10.dll Report Id: 89732b18-e974-11e0-9bb2-1c6f659355ad Have reverted to 3.10 pending a resolution. rdefuria 0
Dunno if this will help, but here is a stack backtrace from the crash via VS 2010. The CCleaner64.dmp file exceeds my "1.95MB global upload quota." CCleaner_stack_backtrace_VS2010.txt
Bug Fixers MrT 0 Posted September 28, 2011 Bug Fixers Share Posted September 28, 2011 Can you please PM me a Memory Crash Dump file created by this crash? It normally has the ".dmp" file extension. If you not sure where it is located/saved, you can try to analyze "System->Memory Dumps" rule in CCleaner. Thanks Note: the name of the file will be slightly different than the one in the snapshot. Bug Fixers MrT 0 Posted September 28, 2011 Bug Fixers Share Posted September 28, 2011 Due to the fact that dmp files can be very large and our forum has uploading limits, you can use services like rapidshare.com or yousendit.com to send us any Memory Dumps file. Thank you so much for your support.
Bug Fixers MrT 0 Posted September 28, 2011 Bug Fixers Share Posted September 28, 2011 Good News! With the help of our member rdefuria who kindly provided us with a memory dump file, we were able to come up with a possible solution for the crashing while cleaning the Recycle Bin. Also, we the help of our member Andavari, we were able to improve how floppy drivers are accessed when cleaning the Recycle Bin. Because we can't really replicate these problems in our test labs, we would like to ask if any of you would be interested in helping us testing this interim version of CCleaner. If you are interested, please PM me and I will forward you instructions on how to download and run some testing. Thank you very much for all your help and support.
six..pack 0
Thanks, we'll look into this. This issue is not only in the latest version of CCleaner, it is also in the latest version of Defraggler. So I hold v3.10 and v.2.6 Defraggler v.2.6. I will hope you can fix it. rgrwng 0
I registered to the forums here to add a note to the "resetting the $Recycle.Bin" solution. First off, i was also experiencing the issue with CCleaner crashing during the "emptying the Recycle Bin" portion of the cleaning - around the 24/25% mark. I found this thread via Google, and followed the directions to resetting it on my C: drive. However, this did not solve my problem right away, as it would still crash the program during attempted cleanings. So as an extension to the solution, i used the same instructions to reset the $Recycle.Bin folders for each of my other installed drives, in addition to my C: drive. this meant i "reset" my E: F: & G: ones, as well. this is probably common knowledge to some, but it was not to me until this thread sparked the idea and got me going in the right direction. this fixed my problem, and am happy to be using this program again... i had deleted many GBs of data in the past few days since, so i was in desperate need of cleaning. Ihave not experienced the A: drive problem other users are having, since i do not have one installed. Thanks Piriform, for the great product!
dudel!st3n 0
Hello. I like piriform, and i use Ccleaner and DeFraggler religiously. at home i am administrator to my own three computers, my wifes computer, my sons computer, my daughters computer, and my roommates computer. i also work IT at the local college. anyway. because teachers, students and my family all do horrid things to their computers, piriforms tools have helped me a whole lot in the past. i also compliment them by letting them know i keep their installers on my thumbdrive labeled toolbox, along with hijackthis.exe, spybot, AVG, junkware removal tool, Unetbootin, and a copy of Ubuntu12.4 iso. The reason i am telling you these things is because after reading this forum, i tried v3.11 and v3.14 on my wife's computer. both of which encountered the same recycle bin error, on 3.11 i got the floppy error, and on defraggler v2.6, i also had an issue with stalling, crashing and prevention of task process shutdown. Quit Drinking PiriForm, You're Losing Your Touch.' For all the other poor saps stuck with no CCleaner because the website does not offer old installer downloads (bad html interface for no archive access) here is a link to an older much more stable version of both... Moderators Nergal 0 Posted June 9, 2016 Moderators Share Posted June 9, 2016 Old versions are found at File Hippo. The links you provided are not approved download by Piriform and thus I've removed them...oh and Old Thread Closed EDIT: ALSO Ccleaner 3.x is Hecka old. That's probably why you have such issues. smh ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark) ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T.
