Here's the error message I see if choose Performance Optimizer on the new welcome screen, a feature that isn't included in my edition of CCleaner Free.

That is misleading, because (as discussed on that other thread) you are seeing that error when trying to run Performance Optimizer using CCleaner Portable, which is not the same as CCleaner Free.

Performance Optimizer has never run in CCleaner Portable - it can't do because PO needs to be installed to monitor any apps that it has put to sleep.

You will only see that error message if you actually try to run Performance Optomizer in CCleaner Portable.
(Or if you have manually removed the installed PO files from the CCleaner directory).

Performance Optimiser still runs as expected in CCleaner Free; even from the new Welcome screen.
ie. it will scan to show which apps may be affecting performance, but it won't put apps to sleep if you try to unless you have Pro.

  2. If I run CCleaner portable on a machine with no CCleaner installed then the first time I run it I do not get the Welcome screen.
However if I close it and run again I then do get the the Welcome screen, and testing I get same as you,

The PO screen opens but if you actually try to run it then you get the error.
PO needs to monitor things so has to be installed to do that, it can't work with the Portable because it is not installed.
Which is why PO isn't in the sidebar of the Portable.

I agree though that it shouldn't be shown on the Welcome screen in the Portable, or should be disabled from use there in the portable.
It looks like an oversight on the developers part. Not that surprising, as they don't seem to consider the Portable much anymore.

I'll flag it up to be looked at, but the obvious solution is not to try and run PO from CCleaner Portable.

PS, Disk Analyzer and Browser Plugins both open from the Welcome screen in the Portable here, and work as expected. (I didn't fully test the plugins though).

  3. As you still have photos on your phone then it sounds like you have just lost a link to the ones stored in the cloud,  (in Google Photo).
If that is the case then they will still be there and you just need to restore the link to them.

You may simply have been logged out of your Google account and so Google Photos, check that and log back in if necessary.

If you still cant see them when you are logged into Google then have a read here: https://www.multcloud.com/tutorials/google-photos-lost-photos-1207.html

  4. I've clarified it to underline just "intolerance of .. change" .

It is definitely a change, and some of the forum posts about it definitely show intolerance.

No accusations made against anybody, just pointing out a dictionary word and definition.

I don't care much for the new screen either, it's also my opinion that it's an unnecessary change as it has been done.
(But things do change for no particular reason. I can also see that it might be a partial first step to something else, maybe testing ideas).

  5. I now appears that the new Welcome screen is being activated for everybody. (I've got it on both my laptops now, once CCleaner Pro, one CCleaner Free).

The shouting that we are currently seeing on the forum is something that we see everytime something changes in the CCleaner screens/layout.
It usually dies down in a week or so as users get familiar with the change.

This one isn't that much of a change anyway, it's only the way that the opening screen looks.

As my post directly above this one shows you can still run CCleaner just the same as before, with a single click of a button.

It is a bit odd that they have activated this front end screen change in the way that they have, and didn't wait for a version update.
That's caught everyone by surprise and probably resulted in more shouting than we usually see for a change.

PS. There's a word for it: Misoneism - a hatred, fear, or intolerance of innovation or change.

The Welcome Screen requires an extra step to access Custom Clean.

    Actually it doesn't.

You can run a Custom Clean or an Analyze straight from the buttons on the Welcome screen
(OK you will need an extra click if you want to change the ticks/unticks. How often do you do that?)

If you have your CCleaner set to open with Health Check then you can run that from the Welcome screen too

  7. Ok then,

there is no user setting in CCleaner to disable the new User Interface Welcome screen.

Changing the relevant registry entry may work for a time, until CCleaner puts/changes it back again.

And currently I suspect that would happen daily. It's the most likely method how the new screen was activated. (The screen itself has been in CCleaner since v6.09. It just wasn't activated for most users).

I'd suggest that the vast majority of users will soon get used to it as just being how CCleaner now looks.

  8. Today the new screen has shown up on my second laptop.
I now have it on both laptops, one with CCleaner Pro, the other CCleaner Free.

So it does appear that the new 'Welcome back' screen may now be being activated more widely, maybe even for all users.

It is first appearing at different times for different users, as a gradual activation.
It you have more than one machine with CCleaner then you may notice that one gets activated before another, like mine did.

I have the same screen and I dont like it. Is here any way how disable this welcome screen?

Not in the long term, it's almost certainly here to stay and everyone will have it.

Most software changes it's User Interface from time to time. Those that don't change begin to look dated.

With any change to anything - Some are going to hate it, some won't mind, and some will like it.

Of course it's only the haters who will shout about it on fora, with a few 'me too's' from the don't minds, and so reactions can look skewed.
There could be, probably are, may more don't minds or likes, but you don't see them shouting about it.

The funny thing is that everybody quickly gets familiar with the change, so that if/when it comes to change again in a few years then they shout about that new change too.
(And it's usually the same people doing the shouting, many people prefer what's familiar and just don't like any change).

PS. Personally I'm not too keen on the new welcome screen either, but like the many other UI changes that have happened in the past I'll soon get used to it.
Nothing functional has changed, it's only a UI screen.

I don't care for the beta welcome screen. How about just getting rid of it?

As it's obviously something that they have spent time working on then how likely do you think that is?

  11. Can you give us a few more details to work with:

Are you using Health Check or Custom Clean?

Is it 'freezing', closing, or something else?

How far is it getting before stopping?

If you are using Health Check then do a Custom Clean instead, if Custom Clean freezes then see what it says at the top of the results window when it stops working.

  12. Mmm, yours is the second report of that in a couple of days that the button has gone mising, I'll flag it up to be investigated.

In the meantime you can do it the old fashioned way, email: support@ccleaner.com and ask them to turn your auto renewal off.
Use the email from which you purchased CCleaner so that they can identify your account.

But why would the screen just suddenly appear like that for no reason? Has CCleaner installed something in the background without my knowledge?

No it's all in every CCleaner, screen and all.
That 'Welcome' screen has been in your CCleaner since v6.09, it just wasn't showing it to you before today.

If/when you get shown things is set by registry entries, and timers within the CCleaner  programme itself.

At the moment I see that new 'Welcome' screen today on one of my laptops but not on the other, like I say it's random.

Part of the reason for that randomness is to gauge ramdom user reactions to the new screen and get comments - so that's working and they are getting comments.

  14. Good to hear you got what you needed.

Just regard the bundled stuff as 'free stuff' that you don't want.
It hasn't cost you anything so if you won't use it then don't install it, nobody is forcing you to.

Personally I don't want Kamo, I do ocassionally use Recuva and Speccy but wouldn't pay for the Pro versions because the Free versions do the same job (except for some very specialist stuff in Recuva) just without automatic updates and 'priority' support.
(You can get free help from other users on this forum anyway).
So basically, apart from the specilised Recuva functions, you are paying for the support and some people do want to do that.

PS. That's one reason why Defraggler Pro is no more, functionally it didn't do anything more than Defraggler Free can do anyway, and it's simple enough not to need much support. Defraggler almost certainly won't be getting any more updates.
The rise of SSDs means that the home users' need for a defragmenting tool is reducing. All defragmenters will gradually become a niche tool for those who still have spinning magnetic discs for whatever reason.

  15. There are a few different 'Buy Now' pages, depending on what link you follow. (And yes that can be confusing).

I've found a "2 Years - 5 Devices" on this purchase webpage (I assume you want US dollars, you change it top right of the page): https://secure.ccleaner.com/502/uurl-hmb2vdrs80?x-campaign=1&x-origin=2&x-variant=1

    image.png

The payment forms/options are below that as usual.

Interestingly I've noticed that if you change currency from GBP to USD or to Euros then the symbol changes but not the amount.
For all other currencies the amount changes as well.
If that's intentional then it's a lot cheaper to purchase in USD or Euros than it is in GBP, depending on the exchange rates at any time.
(Although local purchase taxes may make a difference too).

PS. CCleaner Premium includes Priority Support, which may have been what that email was going on about?
