  1. Fine, we are now clear on that and as you are not telling CCleaner to do a secure delete then it will not be CCleaner that is doing it.

(I have certainly never noticed it happening when deleting files in Duplicate Finder myself).

So it must be something else that is doing it, and I would suspect that it is the encrypted drive's controller.
Which makes sense when you think about it, if your data is important enough to use an encrypted drive then it's important enough that you would want it to be securely deleted.

Try the following to test if it is that particular drive:

    1. Use Duplicate Finder to find the files, make a note of their pathnames (or Save as Text file), browse to them in File Explorer, delete them from there.
Is the drive still doing a zero fill?
    2. Use Duplicate Finder to find some duplicate files on a different not encrypyed drive, (make some duplicates if needed), delete them using Duplicate Finder.
Are the deleted files on that not encrypted drive also being zero filled?
  2. As said above I have flagged this issue up for attention.

You can use the form here to raise an individual support ticket:  https://support.ccleaner.com/s/contact-form?language=en_US&form=general

Please be aware that support are very busy at the moment and are taking much longer that usual to answer.
(Up to a week, or even longer).

After submitting the form you should get a ticket number and will also get an automatic email reply (check your email spam folder), if you have those then you are in the queue, so please have patience and someone will get to your request.

Please also note that as it tells you in the email opening another ticket may put you back down the queue and so further delay the response.
(That's just the way that the queueing system works).

  3. TBH it's not something that I've ever look into, but as far as I know Duplicate Finder would just do a standard delete.

Although with this being an encrypted drive then something else other than CCleaner may be zero filling them on deletion.

My next question has to be how you know that the deleted files have been zero filled? (ie have you been trying to recover them?

Is having them zero filled a problem for some reason?

  4. It isn't clear just what you are asking here?

It seems clear that you are using Duplicate Finder and deleting duplicate files from there.

Is something happening that you don't expect to happen?
Or is something not happening that you do expect?

Please also say what Windows version you are using, whether the drive you are deleting the files from is a HDD or an SSD, and if it's an internal or external drive?

  5. It's the fact that it happens at the same time each day that is the clue - its a schduled task which runs every day at the time it was installed/enabled.

You can solve it by changing the task schedule so that it runs at Startup (or at a time of your choosing). If it runs at startup you will never see it and it won't interrupt your gaming.

    See this post: https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/63929-ccleanercrashreporing-sheduled-task-issue/#comment-341743

PS. As said there you could disable the scheduled task altogether, but if you do that then it will be reinstated at the next CCleaner update so you'll have to remember to disable it again after an update.

  6. Yo say above that  you are also running Custom Clean and Registry Cleaner as well as Health Check..

The ticks and unticks in the Custom Clean lists only apply to Custom Clean.
They have no effect at all on Health Check.

Health Check does not usually log you out of sites in your browser(s) It will be Custom Clean which is doing that.
(However I note that you say "some of my websites" not ALL of them, so it may be the sites themselves that log you out after a certain time - some websites do that as a security measure).

In Custom Clean it is clearing a browsers 'Session' that will log you out of ALL websites.
Using Custom Clean and unticking 'Session' for a browser should stop it logging you out of sites in that browser.
eg: It is unticked here for both Edge and Firefox.

When you are talking about "Photos" going missing you actually mean the "Thumbnails" of your photos.
The little pictures that Windows Explorer, photo viewer etc. show you.

When running Custom Clean clearing the 'Thumbnail Cache' can revert your thumbnail pictures to Icons as you describe, so Windows has to rebuild the cache again before it can show them as little pictures again.
Windows will usually do that automatically, but that does depend on your Windows settings. It can also take some time to rebuild if there are a lot of photos.
Again untick that option and Custom Clean will stop clearing the Thumbnail cache:

  7. "Defrag files" is always quicker than doing a 'full' defrag.

That's because it is only working to get each file in one piece, which is what you want.

A 'full' defrag does more than that and also tries to get them all together on the disc. That's called 'Consolidation' of the files.

(TBH consolidation is not needed - but it makes a pretty picture on the drive map if all the blocks are blue and all next to each other with no gaps, LOL).

  8. There is quite a lot of fragmentation there.

I'd try doing just a file defrag, and in stages.

Do an Analyze and then switch to the Files tab (or click 'Show files' which switches tab).

You can then use the tickboxes on the left to select all files, or select just a number to do at a time. Then click 'Defrag Files' to do the ones you have ticked.

That method defrags the files themselves as best it can without trying to Consolidate them all into one clump on the drive.

And of course you can do some then come back later and do some more.

You have 106 fragmented files there so maybe try doing 10 or 20 at a time? Whether you start with the most fragmented or least fragmented ones is your choice.

I have Trend Micro Maximum Security version 17.7.1951 installed disabling it does not resolve the issue.  I have three other PCs running Trend Micro Maximum Security version 17.7.1951 and have no issue running CCleaner.

I downloaded and installed the most recent version 6.16.  This is the version that will not run.

Do the 3 PC where CCleaner is still running have older CCleaner versions, ie. not yet updated to v6.16?

If the 3 that run are v6.16 then I'd do a manual 'Check for Updates' in TM on the problem machine to see if that sorts things out .

It has been noted on numerous occasions in the past that Trend Micro can be particuarly slow with definition/whitelist updates and can block new versions of CCleaner for a time.
It was particularly noticable during Covid with people working from home, where it would happen with every CCleaner update that TM would block the new version for a while until someone at TM updated their definitions/whitelist.

  11. I would suspect that there is a clash with System Mechanic.

ie. Both SM and Performance Optimiser are trying to optimise your computer in the background, they are trying to do the same kind of things and so are tripping over each other.

Does CCleaner's PO work if you temporarily disable System Mechanic ?
    https://support.iolo.com/support/solutions/articles/44002226353-disable-system-mechanic-background-processes

In the end I think that you will have to choose to use one or the other, but not both at the same time.
The rest of CCleaner's functions and tools should still be working with SM running.

  12. As said above, assume that it may take a couple of weeks - from the last ticket that you raised because the previous tickets will probably have been folded into it.
It does warn you about not doing that in the emailed automatic reply that you get.

Can you add information to a current request or query?

Yes. To add new information, reply to this email with the information you'd like to add.
Please note that opening a new customer support ticket instead of replying to an existing one may delay how quickly we can respond to you.

Whilst I believe that the webpage says "Usually" within 48 hours, we all agree that the current long waiting times are a poor situation.

  13. That one is still showing here, whether I am logged in or not. (of course it's now the second one, because what was second has been hidden).

Well, they have promise to refund me for the canceled subscription. Hopefully it will go through. I have tried to delete my previous comments but I am not finding a way to do that.

  15. Firstly stop using the drive that the folder was on if you can, the more you use it the more chance that there is of overwriting the deleted files.

Next you will need to try and recover the deleted files, either from the Trash, or from Mac 'Time Machine' if you were using it, or using a file recovery tool.
(Note that CCleaners sister product 'Recuva; does not have a Mac version, so you will need to use an alternative such as 'Disk Drill').

See this for a step-by-step guide to recovering deleted files on a Mac: https://www.ionos.co.uk/digitalguide/server/configuration/mac-recovering-deleted-files/

PS. You should get into the habit of always backing up important files to an external drive. (Such as with Time Machine).
Things do go wrong, you make a mistake, or the drive crashes, or files get corrupted, or ????,  and you lose files - it's then always much easier to restore copies from a backup than it is to try and recover the deleted/lost files.

I have changed the title for you, and hidden your second post.

I have left your original post though - because you are right to complain that cancelling a subscription is not currently working as quickly or as smoothly as it should do.
