  1. @BastetWhich version of CCleaner are you currently running?

Your Windows version and what AV you are using may also help.

We have seen the bug with Smart Cleaner closing itself after running an automatic clean before.

We only had reports here of it happening to a few users (4 or 5) and it happened when they closed a browser.
Smart Cleaning cleaned the browser and then for some reason closed itself.
Although for one person who didn't have automatic browser cleaning on it happened when it ran a clean of built up junk.

Is it happening for you when you close a browser, or when junk reaches the trigger level?

The devs were looking at it, and as none of the original reporters cam back, and nobody new has reported it happening since (until now), I'd assumed it had been fixed in one of the CCleaner updates.

Simply Opening and Closing CCleaner (without doing anything else) restarts Smart Cleaning and puts the icon back.

  2. Makes a change from people reporting that since v5.74 they always get an icon in the Systen Tray / Notification area. LOL.

Before v5.74 it was only Smart Cleaning that ran a backgrount task and put the icon in the System Tray (notification area).
Since the v5.74 update 'Keep CCleaner updated automatically' will also now do that.

This 'missing icon' issue seems to have started with Win 10 2004, although it may have been a patch to 1909, and has been reported to the developers.

It does seem to only affect some users and not everybody.
For some reason CCleaner's Smart Cleaning is not (always) being launched by Windows at boot for those users.

If/when it happens then simply open CCleaner and close it again without doing anything else, that forces the Smart Cleaning to start up and puts the icon in the tray.

You could also try uninstalling/reinstalling CCleaner, but that doesn't always cure it as it seems to be Windows causing it.
If you do try that then remember to make a note of your Pro licence details before uninstalling, because (if you don't want to pay again) you'll need to install the free version and re-register it as Pro using your existing licence details.

  3. I'm not so sure that is a bug.
It's probably intended to give you an opportunity to think about what you are doing.

Duplicate Finder makes searching for duplicates easier than doing it manually.
But there is no way that it can know which duplicates are needed by applications.
And it can't know which of your own files you want to keep or not.

For that reason the deletion options are deliberately limited - and you should be very careful when using them.

I'm sure that you would rather take a bit of time to be sure that you are only deleting duplicates that you don't need/want, instead of letting a programme delete things that you do need (or want).

  4. I'd leave it running; make sure that your computer is not set to 'Sleep' when inactive.
If it goes to sleep then Recuva will continue the scan when the computer wakes again but you won't be able to do anything with the results and will have to scan again from scratch. (It's some limitation of Windows).

I never trust those guesses for how long is left, not from any programme or even Microsoft Updates.
    That's all they are; guesses.

Too often I've seen them jump  from saying "XYZ hours left" to suddenly say completed.

How big is the drive? Obviously a multi-TB drive will take longer to scan than a 500 GB drive.

So I contacted ccleaner support and Charlie in the Philippines says there was no such sale and would I please send him a screenshot of the sale.

That does not sound right at all. And rings alarm bells.
"Charlie in the Pilippines" is highly unlikely to be official CCleaner Support.

Just how are you contacting CCleaner support?

If you are talking to someone on the phone then he is definitely not official, and you have been tricked into contacting a 'Tech Support' Scammer.
Whatever you do do not let them have remote access to your machine.
Do not send them any money.

Anyone from official CCleaner support would know about the various sale offers, including the 80%-off offer. (Which was a genuine offer, made to existing customers).

Genuine, official, CCleaner support is contacted by email at: support@ccleaner.com

  6. Take a look at the common registration issues and how to fix or avoid them:
    https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/articles/204043844--Problems-activating-or-registering-CCleaner-Professional

One thing to check for is if you have used accented characters in your name when purchasing you have to use the same when registering.
é is not the same as e,  - ù is not the same as u, and so on.

If you no longer have your purchase confirmation email then you can look up your registered licence details here, you will need the email address that you used when you bought the Pro licence:
    https://www.ccleaner.com/support/license-lookup

Failing that you can contact support. You should email them at: support@ccleaner.com
Again you will need to supply the email address that you used when you made the purchase so that they can find it.
Support may take a day or two to reply, they are busy following Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

  7. I  use both - CCleaner for cleaning, and Revo for uninstalling.

They are different tools for different jobs, although there is some overlap in places.

    As Nergal says;

The uninstall tool in CCleaner is simply a quicker way of running the Windows uninstaller.
Revo is a dedicated uninstaller app and can go further. It will run the standard uninstaller and then search for leftovers to also remove associated things that would otherwise get left behind by the Windows uninstaller.

I have the same problem. This occurs since the last update. My "Minimize to System Tray" and all "Smart cleaning options" are off but when i close CCleaner, it's still minimized to System Tray.

@kockarcheYou also need to turn off 'Keep CCleaner updated automatically' in Options>Update.

That's a new option for users of CCleaner Free (and a change to how it used to work in Pro)  and is one of the things that will now put an icon in the System Tray.

  9. If you have either, or both, 'Smart Cleaning' or 'Keep CCleaner updated automatically' turned on then they will run a background task and so Windows will put an icon in your System Tray.

If you don't want to see that icon in the tray then you have to turn both of those options off.

If you can't get it to go away with both of those turned off then come back.

  10. It does sound as if it's a Windows setting doing this.

As you say it's odd that the screenshot should be different from what you are seeing.

Maybe check the Windows Night Light settings and times?
Or it could be down to a theme that you are using which would be in personalisation rather than display settings?
Or maybe a manufacturer specific display driver/app that shipped with your computer?

TBH there are so many different things that could be causing it.

  11. Yes, but it is telling that unticking Firefox cookies in CCleaner stops the problem from happening.

That tends to indicate that those particular SWs are relying on cookies in some way.
From what you say then not cleaning any Firefox cookies at all works.
So I'd still check if making certain cookies an exception in CCleaner will solve it, of course the problem there is identfying which particular cookies to keep.

Of course it could be something that Firefox has changed, when Mozilla separted the Startup caches from the General caches and started saving them to a different location a month or so ago it caused issues for a while.

Your issue has been flagged up to the CCleaner staff to be investigated.

  12. As you have failed to reply after 20 hours, I will now go ahead and clean up your profile for you by removing the unfounded and disparaging remarks.

I have been lenient on this occasion, many forum moderators would have acted more strictly.
(Many would have also removed this thread rather than leaving it for others to see).

However please note that any further breach of the forum rules on your part may result in further action, up to or including a ban.
    Forum Rules

A tip for the future- When asking for help it's a good idea to be courteous to those who are helping/have helped you.

We helped resolve your issue, despite the fact that you were incorrect in your initial assertion that CCleaner was the cause.
Perhaps you should think a bit more before jumping to conclusions and making unfounded accusations.
That's acting moderately. (Which is what good forum moderators do).

  13. That is not a bug.

It is the itended behaviour and is what CCleaner is supposed to do unless you specifically tell it not to.
It's 100% reproducible because it is supposed to be like that.

CCleaner is supposed to clear cookies.
If you want CCleaner to leave the cookies for your particular service worker(s), or any other cookies, alone then you have to tell it not to clean them.

Not everybody wants the same cookies to be saved and so it is made easy for the individual user to set what Custom Clean will leave alone.

For instance most people will want the service worker cookies removing,  you don't want that so you have the option to tell CCleaner to leave them alone.

You have already found (and noted above) that if you tell CCleaner not to clear any Firefox cookies then it will leave them alone.

You can go further than that though and tell CCleaner to 'Keep' specific cookies, which will then leave them alone while clearing the rest.
That way you can tell it to leave the cookies for the service workers alone while cleaning any other cookies.

See 'Option 2' of this article for how to do that:
    https://www.ccleaner.com/docs/ccleaner/ccleaner-settings/choosing-which-cookies-to-keep

Read also the section 'Not sure which cookies to keep' about the 'Intelligent cookie scan' which could help if you are not sure which cookies you need to keep.

  14. Not unless you wrote something against the forum rules (spam, abusive language, incorrect information, etc.) they don't.

The only people who can change anothers posts are the Moderators and the Administrators.

The title of your previous thread was edited/added to by an Admin to make it clear to others searching that what you had written wasn't correct.
He didn't change any wording at all, simply added a note.

Nothing in any of your posts was altered, I did delete the one that you asked for to be deleted.

I've also deleted another couple that you made with this unfounded accusation.

Would you now like to edit your profile and signature to remove the unfounded accusations, or would you prefer me to do it?

No idea. It did find mailwasher and ticked the box so it will be cleaned.

How can I tell it is actually cleaning it ?

If you set Custom Clean to show you the Advanced Report (Options>Advanced) then it will show you if it has found something for each ticked category
You can also double-click on each where something has been found to see just what the files it found are.
If it doesn't find anything to clean for any particular category then it won't show on the report.

Of course as the Mailwasher leftovers have now gone then CCleaner isn't going to find it anyway.

    Quote

Ok,  too bad ccleaner can not handle that. Will give it a go myself.

CCleaner is not realy meant for that, an uninstall tool like Revo is what you need for that particular job.

No idea why someone changed my post

That's Dave one of the CCleaner staff, he's just changed the title to point out to anyone searching that CCleaner didn't/wouldn't install Mailwasher.

  16. Ah, so CCleaner hasn't installed Mailwasher, it's simply now finding it as something to be cleaned.

It may well be that it's a new detection in CCleaner, ie. Mailwasher was always on your machine but being ignored by CCleaner before?
There were some changes to detections made with the v5.74 updtate.

Is CCleaner actually finding anything in Mailwasher to be cleaned?

Maliwasher was probably installed/uninstalled at sometime in the past but the uninstall left traces behind which CCleaner is now seeing.
You can either ignore it or try to find those leftovers and remove them manually.

We had a similar post on Friday, but that one was Opera leftovers following an uninstall of Opera.
Have a read of this which gives ideas of how to get rid of these leftovers, it's the same for any app that has not been completely uninstalled, sometime though you can't fully track the leftovers down and so just have to live with it still showing up in CCleaner.

  17. That is odd.

Possibly there is still something Opera related that is not using the word Opera?
It may need a Windows update to finally get rid of all traces.

As you say things like this are more of an annoyance than a problem, but do point up that most uninstalls leave traces behind.
If you weren't using CCleaner you wouldn't even have noticed that something Opera related was still lingering.

Just one more thing that I can think of, but uninstalling CCleaner should have cleared it anyway.
Do you have your CCleaner settings saved to a .ini file?
If you have then you could delete it, that should revert CCleaner to default settings so you would have to set any customisation back up again.

As for the downloading that may simply be to do with the fact that it's Black Friday weekend and the internet is overloaded with shoppers.
It was a PITA yesterday, and is still playing up today.

It wouldn't do any harm to check that your AV is up to date and run a scan, maybe even get another option to do a second scan.
I'd suggest MalwareBytes Free as a second malware scanner, I run a scan with it weekly, or even use it as a second AV.
Malwarebytes can even run alongside another AV in realtime - you shouldn't normally run 2 AVs at the same time because they will clash, but Malwarebytes is specifically designed to do that as another layer of protection.
I also use ADWcleaner (now also owned by Malwarebytes) for a weekly scan, that one looks specifically for Adware and Bundleware that may have made it onto your machine.

  18. I for one will be glad when Black Friday is over.

'This website is temporarily unavailable', 'Temporary server problem', slow/throttled connection, connection dropouts, CSS not being loaded on webpages so you have to refresh them, etc.,etc.,etc.

These are all being caused by Black Friday, no system administrator in their right mind would be doing any upgrades or maintenance this weekend.

And it's all so people can save (maybe) some money on things that they don't need, probably didn't want in the first place, and will hardly use before it's relegated to the back of the cupboard.

Things they do need or want they would have bought anyway without black Friday.

But OK there are some deals to be had if you need/want something.

And don't talk about cheap Christmas presents - most of those also end up never used in the back of a cupboard - Bah Humbug.
(I reckon that if you cleaned your never-used kitchen gadgets out you'd only need a kitchen half the size).

If you have been surfing the Black Friday shopping deals then use CCleaner to clean up your browsing tracks -who knows what cookies you have picked up?

    Rant over.

However CCleaner still reports Opera in the Apps list. Ha!  I'm now wondering if I need to wait until the next upgrade to overwrite the old Opera settings?

You may need to uninstall/re-install CCleaner to get rid of it from the applications tab now that the Opera leftovers have gone.

You'll have to re-enter your registered name and licence key after re-installing so make sure that you have a note of them first.
(They can be found at Options>About>Licence Information, or on your purchase email).

When uninstalling/re-installing (which we do more than most when helping out here) we tend to use the 'Slim' installer from here: https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds
It's a little bit smaller/quicker than the Standard installer, but installs the same CCleaner.

  20. The price is higher than in the offer because its a Cashback offer.

You pay the full price then 2 days later you can claim the difference back yourself by using this webpage: https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/cashback/claim

You need to give  2 days before claiming for internal processing of your order.

    For the registration problem:
Check that the name/key is exactly the same as you registered, capitals spaces etc, the best way is to copy and paste them from your confirmation email.
(We have known people spell their own names wrong when purchasing).
See this for common registration problems and fixes: https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/articles/204043844-How-to-register-and-activate-CCleaner-Professional

Remember also that it's Black Friday, so there may be a lot of purchases being made and it may be taking time for your purchase to be recorded, I'd try registering again later.
