  1. If it's the dial-up modem, since you're using broadband connection, you may try to disable it and see the effects. I don't think it will boost any system performance

    Returnil - Free

Now I'm troubled after reading this Does it only protect the system partition only??? I hope not...

    Returnil - Free

I also have another question. Does it protect all other partion besides the OS Partition? Original Message But I suppost it will sorry if I violated any rules regarding "old" threads
  4. Like the Workstation Service perhaps?
  5. I believe the pattern is ADSL>>>Broadband Modem>>>Router>>>Network Adapter and ADSL>>>Broadband Modem>>>Network Adapter if the router is absent
  6. I would just say that as long as there is proper ventilation in the laptop, it should be fine

    Returnil - Free

I plan to give Returnil a shot. Since PS 2.82 online registration has been cut off, perhaps this freebie would replace it. So Returnil need a reboot to enter the virtual mode thing?

    Regseeker 1.55

It deleted the registry entries on file associations for MS Office. Now I need to guess if this file is an Excel file and this one is a Powerpoint file. I'd rather stick with CCleaner's registry cleaner
  9. I kinda agree in the sandbox section. Sandboxie is one magnificent software, some software (including the ones that writes in the registry) can install in the sandbox without any problems, and can be used for testing purposes. I finally learned to accept Sandboxie as my arsenal, to test out softwares hehehe. I'm still quite doubtful of AVG, some users reported that it doesn't scan the files inside an archive.

    Robot Baby

That would be great as a prank and on Halloween
  11. Just using Adblock Plus Adblock Plus Element Hiding Helper CustomizeGoogle IETab SiteAdvisor That's all I need to tighten up my FF
  12. Some or most people are still in the middle ages in securing their computer, not bothering the new generation of computer security. Probably common signature-based anti-malware are a lot friendlier and can be "set and forget" so people prefer that choice. I kinda start to like Sandboxie, after common usage I see its importance of the new breed of security software... and it's fun of having a temporary "hard drive"
  13. But they need to rely on someone to report an exploit or bug in the OS therefore they can hardly manage in securing the OS by their own.
  14. In some or most cracked softwares, a malware code is bundled. I know most cracked softwares are clean, but the majority is dangerous. That's one reason to avoid warez. Some people ignore that they're illegal, therefore they will just install it. What makes them stay away is what harmful code is bundled deep in the software. Also I placed "some" and "most" because some are clean and some are not. Inaccurate? Common sense
  15. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_cracking Somehow, cracked softwares are shareware made free

  17. Shouldn't be Microsoft know more about the security of their OS since they're the one making it? So it means that most people from Microsoft only know on making the OS and not thinking much of their products? Looks like Microsoft's strategy is "buy and forget", buy a security company and forget the exploits and possible malware. I look forward of the future of Microsoft's line of OSes

    Shift key

Is it your first time to see that? You should play with the Accessibility Options I unticked the "Use shortcut" in the Sticky Keys settings... and the other boxes too
  19. Another Firefox "The most secure browser" myth What's really happening to those guys at mozilla? Don't they have a white hat hacker or somethin'? Oh well back to Opera

    Firefox 3

Use it for a long time and go to websites that are "memory hungry" errrr... or is it CPU hungry? I have seen it go up to 124mb of memory (memory leak perhaps), although I'm too lazy to create screenshots of every detail I make in my computer. Firefox memory consumption fresh start Opera memory consumption fresh start (don't mind the name, my flimsy friend played with the configuration and says Opera is an ugly name >.< oh well) Using the Lix theme in Opera
  21. Just temporarily use the webmail if your AV program with email scanning feature has "conflicts" with the messages in your inbox. If possible, use Sandboxie to sandbox your email client (with the email scanning turned off) to make sure whether that file attachment is safe or not.

    Firefox 3

Currently using Opera I just hope this goals would be really achieved Improve Performance Startup Time Page Render Time Tab Switching time and this Improved Memory Footprint (This one is a widely known prob of FF, considering it munches up to 100mb+ of memory) Those cons are known for FF. I really want to see the improvement (and the memory consumption too!)
  23. It somehow reminds me of pinball sounds gone bad! But my hard drive is a lamb when it dies... or whatever a lamb sounds when it's killed.
  24. I love to squish spiders! Although that one can be a collection... But I don't want to see a freakin' family member run from the spider in the bathroom and see the stink-o melted choco or urea juice drop on the floor!
  25. It's tempting to eat, well I'll skip the muffler part for that
