  1. There's another thread here about the issue. I guess it's system dependent meaning rather it locks the system, or is just a slowdown for registry cleaning.
  2. The actual location IE places the bookmarks in isn't a folder called bookmarks, it's a folder called favorites and it is located at: %userprofile%\favorites Also CCleaner doesn't do anything to IE's bookmarks.
  3. Sorry I was replying to grabacontroller, thought it was unnecessary to quote since it was the previous post.

    Defragmenting

Well in Win9x I know the defrag.exe program wouldn't touch the system registry files system.dat, user.dat and some other files that I don't remember at the moment. Also most defrag programs don't defrag the paging/swap file (win386.swp for Win9x) (pagefile.sys for WinXP), however they can defrag it or move it followed by a reboot which is something VoptXP can do. Edit: For Win9x/Me there's a program called Defrag_to_shutdown that has a built-in option to defrag system files using a hidden defrag.exe switch that even Microsoft has never published to my knowledge.

It don't think it'll take too long for laws to appear in Canada either.
  6. The Guest account has limited access, meaning cleaning the registry won't work.

The government in my views is only partially to blame for such a lengthy relief effort, however the government has never had to deal with a natural disaster so enormous. Also rather a pre-storm evacuation is mandatory ("marshall law") or not people will still be bullheaded and do their own thing. Meteorologists where saying for days that Katrina would strengthen in the warm Gulf of Mexico waters, and gave a good tracking of where the storm was headed. Meteorologists on each news channel weren't over-trumping what would happen, they were trying to warn people for days and unfortunately many didn't listen, or had no ability to leave. I'm not talking just about New Orleans which is seemingly getting allot of the news coverage, there are other areas that are also devastated. And how serious is the catastrophe, well it's an important world event as Japan and many other countries are releasing oil reserves to try and stabilize fuel costs worldwide.
  8. I love his description of the General section of the forums.
  9. Mac computers are nice, but aren't they expensive?
  10. Just tried it within the last hour, here's what I discovered. Complete Utter Failure: - Doesn't detect the proper time for tracks to add to an audio CD (.wav). - I wrote five tracks to an audio CD from .wav files that totaled 22 minutes 22 seconds (22:22), the resulting disc had only one track at 54 seconds in length. This alone made me not fully trust the program. I can't understand why they couldn't have found this before publically releasing it. Minuses: - Doesn't automatically verify a data disc after burning. Therefore if there's any errors on the disc you won't know about it. - Want's to check for an update everytime the application is loaded and/or phone home, and will state there's an update available. I suppose they want you to buy the commercial version "if there is one," I have no ideal because the page they try to load in the web browser is a dead link. - No write speed selection. In some instances this can be an important feature, that's unfortunately missing. - The animated fireman putting out burning disc's get's annoying, and there's no way to make it a static image. - Doesn't support Windows 98. Pluses: + Supports Windows 98 SE and above. + Small download size. Isn't bloated. Loads fast. + Freeware. + Doesn't contain any malware, e.g.; no adware, spyware, trojans, viruses, etc. + Can Quick Erase and Full Erase re-writable CD media. + Has and automatically enables buffer underrun protection ("BurnProof") if your CD writer or DVD writer has that feature built into it.

  12. I've noticed after I defrag the Pagedfrg (Sysinternals) becomes unneccessary since it reports the files as only have one file fragmentation.
  13. I use: - Ad-Aware SE Personal - ClamWin Free Antivirus - CWShredder - Ewido Security Suite - eTrust EZ Antivirus - HijackThis - Microsoft Windows Malicous Software Removal Tool using the full scan parameter mrt.exe /f - Spybot - Search & Destory - SpywareBlaster - SpywareGuard
  14. That bar looks strikingly similiar to RK Launcher, that's what I thought it was. That's the reason why I just look at the pretty screenshots online and never download and install any. I don't feel like undoing any possible mess, or worse having to format. My system will look like Windows Vista when I purchase the OS from Microsoft, that is after it's been out for a year or so to weed out any possible flaws.
  15. I didn't vote for one simple reason if there'd only be a Win9x/Me version and a WinNT/2K/XP version I would've voted, since every program will probably be needed to clean up after a very serious malware infection. I would also include in each package: - A warning/notice about using Internet Explorer and other browsers that use IE's components, since it's a major cause of infections do to being so exploitable. - A notice to update any already installed antivirus software. - URL links in all of the packages to download a third-party firewall; Outpost Free, ZoneAlarm Free, etc. - URL links in all of the packages for performing free online virus scans, and also include links to download freeware antivirus software that includes a resident shield such as AntiVir, Avast, AVG. I would include in the WinXP package: - A link to run the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool with the Full Scan parameter which checks all files and all disks: %windir%\system32\mrt.exe /f I would include in the Win9x/Me package: - A freeware on-demand DOS antivirus scanner such as F-PROT Antivirus for DOS, or Avast for DOS, since some infections are difficult to remove in Windows.

    cd rom drive

Usually when they die they stay dead no matter what remedy you try, also applying an unofficial firmware that isn't from the drive manufacturer is an easy way to kill a drive. The thing that killed my beloved and charished Toshiba DVD drive was ripping some 2000 plus audio CD's, it didn't last a year because of that. I miss that drive dearly since it was the best one I ever used for securely ripping audio CD's.
  19. Ah that's what you meant. You'll just have to live with it opening Foxit Reader which isn't too bad considering you were able to get rid of its bloated competition with no real disadvantages to speak of.
  20. There's also a freeware version called Diskeeper Lite.
  21. Manually setup the PDF document mime type for your browser. The screenshot is the setup taken from Mozilla Suite:
  22. Well the forums are the only means of support! Therefore if someone only has one, or a few questions that get properly answered they may not be compelled to return until another question needs answering.
  23. I don't use it and don't really care what version they release. I just posted it for people who use Acrobat or Acrobat Reader to give them a heads up. And yes switching to Foxit Reader is a wise choice since it isn't bloated and loads fast.
  24. CDex, CookieCop, Exact Audio Copy ("EAC") Install Control 5 ("InCTRL5"), MS Publisher, MS Word, Second Copy 2000, Winamp. I'll stop there I could go on for some time.
