  1. That's the exact same thing that stumped me when I first used ImageShack.
  2. EasyCleaner will typically only find a few registry entries that CCleaner doesn't, and it's Unnecessary files finder can be customized to find files or ignore files. It's Registry cleaner can be customized to ignore entries, and one entry you should immediately put into the Registry cleaner to ignore so that it doesn't mess with settings is: CCleaner With EasyCleaner you need to avoid the Duplicates since that's the dangerous part of the program.
  3. NTREGOPT should be safe to use and it will create backups of the original registry files. If at any time you wish to remove the backups (they have the .bak extension) there's many system utilities that will find .bak file extensions and offer to delete them.
  4. While you're playing around linking an image you uploaded to ImageShack click the Preview Post before clicking Add Replay. That way you'll know right away if you need to use another link that ImageShack supplies. Another free image hosting service is http://xs.to/.

Not at all. You only need to do a backup if you've changed settings and have added or removed bookmarks. Your bookmarks are going to be the most important thing to backup and Opera will allow you to create a backup of your bookmarks to another location by clicking: File->Import and export->Export Opera bookmarks By the way your bookmarks are located at: Opera\profile\opera6.adr Opera automatically makes a backup of your bookmarks to the file: Opera\profile\opera6.adr.bak What I do is create a zip archive of the files I mentioned in my previous post about saving the settings. I store the full folder information in the zip archive so that I can simply unzip to C:\ and all the files will unzip to the correct folder location.

    Opera

Opera's settings can be saved! Save: Opera\dialog.ini Opera\fastforward.ini Opera\OperaDef6.ini Opera\OUniAnsi.dll Opera\OUsr600.dat Opera\plugin-ignore.ini Opera\search.ini Opera\spellcheck.ini Opera\profile\*.* Don't save these folders (contains the cache): Opera\profile\cache4\ Opera\Profile\cacheop\ If you installed Opera for multiple users look in the Application Data folder for your Opera user profile.

I'm wondering if Mozilla still has problems with ATI display cards like the old 4.x versions of Netscape, although I use Mozilla Suite without any problems, and it has only crashed once in two years.
  8. Microsoft Update - (Windows, Office, etc. Requires Internet Explorer) http://update.microsoft.com/ Manually download Windows XP updates (download and installation requires Windows Genuine Advantage to be installed. Requires Internet Explorer) http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/

    uninstall

Reinstall over the existing installation the programs that won't uninstall, then reboot, then try the uninstall rountine again.
  10. Wouldn't hurt to also revert back to ZoneAlarm v5.5. I also had the BSOD, the inability to install, and a whole host of other problems when I installed version 6.
  11. That may sound like a good ideal but there's a problem with it, as in doing that with all programs: The Windows installation has some compatibility registry entries for software like Norton, etc., that it puts in the registry to reduce conflicts. Now lets say you delete everything that has to do with Norton including the compatibility entries originally installed by Windows and you later install a Norton product, you may have a problem. Also using RegSeeker to delete every entry it finds to a reference can cause problems, since some registry data is intertwined with other settings, meaning for example if you remove part of an entry within a StringValue, etc., you can cause problems.

Yeah, and I won't complain one bit because when they were giving it away free a few weeks ago it allowed me to go from my licensed 7.x version to a newer version that's much better. Now that they've made it free without ad's they'll surely get more users, especially those like me who can't use Firefox due to it crashing on my system.
  13. That ideal may sound good to many however there's a problem with it. That being CCleaner.exe which itself once unpacked/installed is itself larger than the whole size of the setup program. I don't know if MrG changes CCleaner.exe everytime there's a program update or not, however if he does it would negate having such an incremental update approach. Imagine updating every component instead of having just the one setup file, the download size would probably increase as per example for the current v1.23.160: Single setup file: 498 KB (510,718 bytes) Updating each file singly: 1.25 MB (1,312,205 bytes)

Mangix the more RAM you have installed the less likely your Display Card is to start scarfing at your System RAM if your Display Card itself has an insufficient amount of RAM. When I upgraded my RAM from 128 MB to 384 MB in my old Win98 system some years ago all my gaming related problems were minimized.
  15. I've been wanting to try that out for awhile. Might just have to take the plunge and download it.
  16. The ability for the user to select which *.pf files to remove is a very good suggestion! I for one know that the prefetch folder does need cleaning for the fact it can end up with loads of Microsoft KB updates that're prefetched and serve no purpose once installed, the same goes for installations from a CD source.
  17. Why would you want to erase the WinXP Restore Files partition? That's how you'd restore your system.
  18. Then you'd use the Restore CD that came with your PC to do that. That's if your system came with one. Some newer systems are using a restore partition for formatting and then reinstalling WinXP.
  19. The seal isn't the part that's easy to break. When opening up a PS2 console the power and eject button assembly which is one part has to be carefully removed because if it isn't the ribbon it's attached to will be damaged which will make it impossible to use the PS2 without repairing it. The ribbon is easy to damage for multiple reasons; 1. It's unexpected and someone will just try to take the upper and bottom halves of the PS2 apart damaging it. 2. It's adhered/weakly glued to the bottom half. 3. If the two halves tip over you're in trouble. This is what it looks like:
  20. Win9x you use a bootdisk with the necessary startup files and other necessary files which include FDISK and FORMAT. WinXP you use the bootable CD that came with your system which can Quick Format or Full Format the disk. No matter what your OS is I'd do a Full Format.
  21. Well it'll be D for me Denying to use it, until they F for Fixing it. Doesn't matter I'm using MS Antispyware.
  22. If all of it works for you then congratulations, however I had a different experience with it detailed in this post.
  23. The rails (drive slide mechanism) is what malfunctions when it gets dirty and needs to be lubricated with sewing machine oil. I'm so practiced at doing it, it now only takes me 10-15 minutes to take it apart clean it and reassemble. Looks like this: That's a known problem. The only solution I found with those discs which are CD's not DVD's is to constantly reboot the system, or go into the memory card manager area and then insert the disc and then load it from there. My problem is solved though because I sold all the CD PS2 games I had because I was tired of the loading issues.
  24. Umm no! Spybot SD's TeaTimer has a messed up malformed display. Arovax was uninstalled days before my system died on Friday. I was using and had resident eTrust EZ Antivirus, ZoneAlarm (Free), Microsoft Antispyware.
  25. That's a bit of a cheap shot. Dell is known for using propriety hardware, etc., in their systems however the system I'm on now is my second Dell. And guess what the next system I get will also be a Dell.
