  1. Soon as I read this topic I made a disk image! It will only automatically download, and install it if it's compatible with the PC, if a PC has a compatibility issue then it won't be available until that's fixed. From looking around on several websites it's recommended to wait for Automatic Updates to download it, that way it should be compatible.
  2. While VirusTotal finds nothing wrong with the Slim build installer, it's a different story if you individually submit CCleaner.exe and CCleaner64.exe to it, then it finds something but only with 1 or 2 scanners and it states Trojan. As for Jotti finding something, well I typically pay no attention to the ClamWin scanner they have on there and I haven't for years, it's the Linux version and is very prone to giving false positives on allot of installers made for Windows -- I don't know how they have it configured but perhaps it's set to something akin to a paranoid mode (if such a mode exists, it's just speculation). However, when scanning the same files with ClamWin installed on my Windows system it has never produced a detection.
  3. Using the Slim build installer: ccsetup547_slim.exe MD5: EF79B5B018A451CC9B149078186FBFC4 SHA-1: 3EA279FCD3F93C18F912C785E43D074921FC4AB6 SHA-256: F281CEBE66E0E792FB4D1E62CCA6D4A734CA4BD63B09C262DE49FED5D8496C89 VirusTotal results (no detections): https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/f281cebe66e0e792fb4d1e62cca6d4a734ca4bd63b09c262de49fed5d8496c89/analysis/1538351291/ Jotti results (1 detection by ClamWin): https://virusscan.jotti.org/en-US/filescanjob/05qz7wgvqa
  4. You could try this: https://forum.piriform.com/topic/40285-ccleaner-not-deleting-google-chrome-history-fix/ Problem is they will always be playing catch up with the cleaning of web browsers. In all my browsers I tick the cleaning boxes inside the browsers to have them automatically clean themselves when I close them.
  5. I remember from many years ago there was some discussion about it, perhaps on this forum (not sure), but the gist of it was leave WinSxS alone.
  6. That upperfilters and lowerfilters that people are told to delete in the registry (should make a registry backup of those keys first though) has been around since at least the Windows 98 era.
  7. You could try a workaround, that is have CCleaner automatically clean and shutdown the computer for you, it's in the documentation here. Then when you start your computer again see if that fixes the issue. Example: "F:\Applications\Piriform\CCleaner\CCleaner.exe" /AUTO /SHUTDOWN
  8. How would know if Avast/Piriform will add that into CCleaner? From looking at the documentation why would CCleaner even need to bother with it at all, it is already taken care of by operating system itself.
  9. I don't think too many big name companies would even have the wallet to take them on, so for Linux I'd think they definitely don't.
  10. Windows 10 very annoyingly will create a System Volume Information folder on any USB Thumb Drive doesn't matter how it's formatted! On a USB Thumb Drive I have the size of that folder is only 88 bytes, so essentially it's completely useless.
  11. Version 5.47.6716 was released a few days ago, perhaps update to see if it resolves the issue.
  12. That URLs own malware blocking one is relatively large.
  13. For only having a 3 years old laptop I'd look into what the culprit of what's causing the problem, and being frequent as you've described sounds like a headache. If it's either hardware or software I'd personally look for a real solution because to be perfectly honest with you System Restore Points will fail to fix an issue at some point - hence the reason for disk imaging your system.
  14. I think it just uses the Trim command - that is if it properly detects the drive as an SSD!
  15. Get your system configured exactly as you like it. Then if you have an external USB hard disk, or secondary hard disk installed in the system for backups (you should be making backups) with a large enough capacity to image your Windows OS I'd recommend making a system image using Windows 10, or a third party software such a Macrium Reflect Free, etc. Note that using either method you'll need to also make bootable media such as a bootable USB stick or a CD/DVD disc so that you can boot the system with the recovery software. Personally I made system images using the built in Windows 10 tool, and Macrium Reflect Free.
  16. Slowdown or sluggish behaviour can happen if using a traditional magnetic hard disk instead of an SSD. Also if you've applied a common "tweak" such as manually adjusting the size of the PageFile instead of just letting Windows automatically manage it that can cause some RAM issues - like a program stating there isn't enough available.
  17. The new version in the post above also removes the ability to be used on old versions of Chrome/Chromium used on older OS legacy machines with XP/Vista. Can't remember exactly since I'm not on the old computer but I thought it stated Chrome/Chromium v51 or v52 is required.
  18. Something to consider is if you have an SSD as your boot drive where Windows is installed is to disable things such as the memory caching feature for Samsung SSDs, in Samsung Magician SSD software it's called Rapid Mode. For Crucial/Micron SSDs (common to have them in modern laptops) in Storage Executive it's called Momentum Cache. Only reason I even bring that up is because using such caching features uses allot of RAM, 4GB is what some people have stated, and from what I was reading last night trying to figure out if I wanted to enable them it seems some people have issues with them especially if the system doesn't have 16GB or even 32GB of RAM installed.
  19. Are you just worried about it reaching the usage of 4GB? Or do you actually have some noticeable RAM related issue such as programs and/or Windows giving RAM/memory related error dialogs?
  20. Note that for the LangSecRef Edge has a number for that now: 3005 = Microsoft Edge So that would be: LangSecRef=3005 And thank you for posting that cleaner, it removed allot of additional junk from Edge on my laptop!
  21. I've been doing that for years with SRWare Iron Portable using this: FileKey3=%SystemDrive%\PortableApps\IronPortable|*.old|RECURSE
  22. Old versions are archived at: https://filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/history/ Edit: However in all likelihood it will just automatically emergency update itself to the newest version to avoid such bugs and for the updates to the privacy settings/compliance (just look around the forums for that info).
  23. It's good to see something positive finally happen and be posted about with all the negativity surrounding CCleaner the past few months.
