  1. The thing I also liked about it is it took in all of my old customization's I've did to my Firefox profile over the years that aren't even possible to configure anymore from scratch.
  2. As common of a problem as it is and has been for a long time I'm surprised Microsoft doesn't have one of their fully automated Fixit solutions for it.
  3. I had forgot about Waterfox, however this topic had me look into it and try it. Didn't take but maybe five minutes to decide I'd switch permanently from using Firefox Portable ESR to Waterfox Portable. I didn't even have to configure it, I just copied over my Firefox profile and was up and running. Another bonus is it's 131 MB smaller.
  4. Maybe they should've waited at least 30 days after that first incident, and scoured through it looking for more bugs before making it available again. If it's offered on my system I'm going to wait a good while before allowing it to install.
  5. Windows 10 and what update version? If you have the latest Windows 10 October 2018 v1809 Update then Piriform/Avast are aware that there's issues with CCleaner on that version of Windows. Here's the topic about it.
  6. It's been a recommendation even on Microsoft's Support pages to restore the functionality of a missing CD/DVD disc drive. And like mta stated just make a System Restore Point to undo any changes, since restoring from a Restore Point also restores the system registry.
  7. For some reason I don't run into that issue if I do the following: 1. Open Microsoft Edge. 2. Close Microsoft Edge. This should have all Edge processes close to not interfere with CCleaner's cleaning ability. 3. Open CCleaner and click Run Cleaner, it's a little slow for maybe 10 seconds cleaning Internet Explorer's history but it works. Why Edge and Internet Explorer seem tied at the hip like that I don't know.
  8. Yes, but Custom Location is one word with no gaps/spaces in it, it's just: CustomLocation1= And it is that Data\profile folder where you set a custom location to point to. Then open CCleaner and under Firefox enable/disable what you want cleaned, then when you clean the deleted files, etc., will be listed as Firefox in the Summary window. Example, this is what my Firefox Portable ESR looks like configured in CCleaner Portable's ccleaner.ini: CustomLocation1=FIREFOX|C:\PortableApps\FirefoxPortableESR\Data\profile
  9. Where that program is installed open its own folder in the Program Files folder and look for an uninstall.exe, unins000.exe, etc., *.exe file, if you find one you can double click it to initiate the uninstall. Also in Win10 you should be able to right-click that program link in the Start Menu and select Uninstall. It might just be a standalone or portable program, they commonly have no means of uninstalling and you just delete them to get rid of them -- but before just outright deleting it (the improper way of uninstalling) see if that program has a forum where you can ask other users that might know.
  10. IE will typically (at least in my case) have no issue being cleaned if you do the following: 1. Start Microsoft Edge. 2. Immediately close Microsoft Edge. Side Note: Do not End Task Microsoft Edge from within Task Manager since doing that "may corrupt its databases." 3. Clean with CCleaner. It will spend a few seconds cleaning Internet Explorer however it should be able to successfully clean both it and Edge without any error text stating they're being skipped.
  11. I used to only use a batch file and .reg file to clean before CCleaner was even a thing, still use it on my old WinXP system but haven't got around to poking around Win10 yet to make my own cleaner for it yet. You can also use a .REG file to clean MRU's by having that batch file CALL it - so you'd essentially have your batch file and a reg file to clean everything all via that single batch file you've created.
  12. System Restore Points may be useful, however do NOT rely upon them since they can commonly fail, I remember when WinXP was coming out and System Restore Points were to be the "holy grail" on a Windows computer but often they're the "holy fail". Hence the reason to always have a relatively recent known to be good disk image to fully restore the system. Having a disk image can also help to get rid of an infection, bad update, buggy software that's been installed, etc.
  13. Look at other YouTuber's reaction to The Verge's YouTube video on how to build a $2000 PC, and be glad that site doesn't load for you.
  14. The Recycle Bin problem: What I've noticed in the Free version when using Run Cleaner from the Recycle Bin it looks like it hasn't did anything because the CCleaner icon with the animated cleaning brush near the clock in the Task Bar ("Systray") no longer appears in particular on Win10 - haven't tested it as of yet on old WinXP. However when opening CCleaner and clicking Analyze and then Run Cleaner it's evident that it did initially work via right-clicking the Recycle Bin.
  15. I doubt it will work installing another disc burning software. Search the web for fixes especially on Microsoft's website. If all else fails I know there are YouTube videos that will walk you through attempting to get the drive back. Give this a try: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=cd+drive+missing+win10
  16. I think the real problem was they knew months ago that it was deleting files, but somehow never fixed that and released it anyways. Can't think of a better mishap for them to tarnish Windows beyond what it already is and cause some people migrate over to Linux or MAC. I can just imagine a MAC TV commercial with the slogan: Your files are safe!
  17. From what I've seen online if it isn't showing up in 'Updates & Security > Windows Update' it should be left alone. The person that lost 23 years of work, that was supposedly 220 GB worth, couldn't imagine even trying to backup all that 23 years ago -- but nowadays it wouldn't even make a dent on a high capacity HDD that costs a mere $40 USD, hell it would even fit comfortable on a 256 GB flash drive.
  18. Comes a point though where you really have to decide to keep using an older version with caveats which are when using two of the included cleaners in older versions that have the potential to damage a Windows 10 installation (Fonts Cache, and Windows.old cleaning) which was why I updated to 5.47. For me it made no sense to even chance it, or have a lapse in remembering to not use a couple of cleaners that could break the OS. As for it playing good and nice I use the portable version, however I did block the .EXE files in Windows Firewall so they can't phone home or elsewhere, and so far it functions without any issues. When using any build Portable, Standard, Slim, etc., you'll want to start CCleaner and go into 'Options > Privacy' and make any appropriate changes, that hopefully they will honor.
  19. Way back then it was caused by uninstalling some CD burning software.
  20. With all the issues I decided to use the free O&O ShutUp10 to as it's listed in the program 'Activate deferring of upgrades', "supposedly even works for Win10 Home" which Microsoft doesn't give a setting for to defer upgrades.
  21. Matter's what OS that tablet has on it though. If it's a Windows tablet the install size is bigger than 20MB.
  22. I just block the executable .exe files in the CCleaner folder with Windows Firewall, effectively stopping its ability to access the Internet, and I've never had one notification.
  23. Can't believe it took this so damn long to make it possible to clear the Clipboard easily, and without having to use a 3rd party cleaning tool such as CCleaner to accomplish it. See here: https://pureinfotech.com/clear-clipboard-history-windows-10/
  24. Impossible really to use the Internet and not have any interaction with Google. There's allot of Chrome-clones, and allot of browsers including Firefox use Google for Safe Browsing and creates a cache for it and without it we'd more likely get infected.
  25. Doesn't help you now but when I defrag (using any defrag software) I run chkdsk /f on the hard disk beforehand. After the defrag is complete I run chkdsk /f once again. With the corruption happening it might be worth using a free tool such as CrystalDiskInfo Portable that will show the S.M.A.R.T. status of the drive. Then run the drive manufacturer's or computer manufacturer's hard drive confidence tools to look for disk problems beyond what's possible using Windows built-in tools. There's a free tool GSmartControl that can run the hard drive confidence scans.
