That's all very well, but earlier versions didn't intrude at all. I am going to have to test previous versions from oldversion.com.

I find them extremely annoying and totally unnecessary. Can I get rid of them, or do I have to revert to a previous edition?

I frequently use CCleaner to remove cookies. Very often two or three of them are still present after cleaning and I have to right click and remove them myself. Two of them are from Bing, I forget the other one. What, if anything, can I do to ensure they are removed by Cleaner?

Both Edge and IE are skipped when I run the cleaner. I don't really care about Edge since I don't use it, but it should scanned anyway. I use IE a bit and would like it scanned. What am I missing?

As I have not received a solution to my original post "Active Monitoring unchecked but still runs" dated 24th June, I wonder if anyone else can help me, or suggest a good alternative to CCleaner?

The operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium. CCleaner build is v5.31.6105. I am using the free version. Yes. After unticking both boxes I answer yes.

Every time I open CCleaner, Active Monitoring is checked again. I don't want it to run. How can I overcome this annoying problem?

What's the procedure for restoring them?

Thank you DennisD, There is nothing related to it in the task scheduler. Don't know what to think now. Andavari, Yes I've experienced infuriatingly undisciplined software too. I had elected to follow this thread but it didn't happen. Edit: I had another look in task scheduler and found it under a confusing name. I've disabled it. Edit 2: It still started. I then deleted the task from the scheduler but the damned thing still starts. I will ask Ashampoo to see if they can help. Solved: It's not CCleaner's fault, neither is it task scheduler's. I'm embarassed to say that it's mine. I had missed the fact that there is a checked box which lets it start at boot.
