  1. The problem I run into using CC's 'Issues' scanner on a non-admin account is that it thinks some 'Start Menu->Programs' shortcuts were invalid but they aren't, although it's an easy fix to ignore them by simply unticking 'Issues->File Integrity->Start Menu Shortcuts'.
  2. Version 4 is looks much better. I only hope the memory/resources related issues I have with 3.5 are gone because I have to immediately reboot after running a full system scan.
  3. If FF has something that allows the reporting of broken websites that cause it to crash file it with Mozilla. I know for years that there have been some websites such as (ZDNet in the past) that have caused Mozilla Suite to crash and/or crash a whole computer which probably has to do with some messed up script, however since I haven't used FF that much I haven't run into the same problem.
  4. I'm not a Nero user however my suggestion would be if you allow CCleaner to clean it's temp files make sure Nero isn't running! To remove Nero from being cleaned run CCleaner click the big 'Cleaner' button and search for 'Ahead Nero Burning ROM' and untick it, CCleaner will then ignore cleaning it.
  5. If the developer used Inno Setup it would have been available for all users a long time ago because Inno Setup creates start menu shortcuts for all users by default.
  6. Do you mean the Personal Bar? If so I can't do that as the links I have in it are visited all the time. There's some stuff in Opera that I wish could be moved around to any location but it won't allow it.
  7. Well I'm not an avid Win98 user anymore which means I only get to run CCleaner three to four times a year on my Win98 system, and of course I never pay any attention to what it's doing nor do I dig around to make sure it actually deleted the junk. I'm glad the batch files are working for you, I still use them whenever I run my Win98 system because they're quick and easy to operate.
  8. Talk about minimalistic rridgely, you really made Opera look skinny. After your previous post about making it look more like Firefox I too did some customizing and came up with this:
  9. If you're using Win2000 or WinXP make sure you're logged on with Administrator Priveleges, if you aren't you won't be able to remove the invalid registry data that the Issues scanner displays. This isn't a problem on Win9x/Me systems.
  10. Please post a screenshot of what you did. My biggest complaint against Opera is that its viewable webpage area is somewhat smaller than Firefox, and simply using Firefox there's instantly a noticable difference.
  11. I agree it needs to be available from the get go for all users, and this complaint/suggestion has popped up more than a few times over the last year or so. A current workaround is to create a desktop shortcut pointing to ccleaner.exe in: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop
  12. I've never seen or heard of that before. Have you not rebooted in awhile? Don't know if this will be of any help however you can change the Update Speed by clicking: View -> Update Speed Looking at the screenshot I wish the processes that I have that are identical used as little memory as yours.
  13. "Maybe the 'Opera (Single User)' entry located in the second post here for winapp2.ini will work." Note: I haven't installed Opera 9 Beta therefore I don't know if it will work or not. Edit: If it doesn't work you'll have to wait for the CCleaner developer to officially support Opera 9, however I wouldn't except it to be supported until Opera 9 is a final build version and no longer a beta version.
  14. It isn't useless, as it cleans a plethora of junk that allot people wouldn't know to clean on their own. Well on Win98 there isn't any cleaning program that really benefits me other than saving me the trouble from having to exit to MS-DOS mode. WinXP is a different story since there's no MS-DOS mode to run a batch file in to deal with IE's index.dat files and CCleaner offers a quick an easy way to remove them. Here it is:
  15. One could possible say that, they already have AVG plus 'AVG+Firewall' however with Ewido's engine and AVG's ICSA Certified antivirus Grisoft will be in a very strong position for a very long time. And something else the acquistion of Ewido may actually help it as a brand and in popularity being alongside a respected antivirus company.
  16. I don't feel sorry for Symantec! All the large U.S. companies that outsource and/or sell off parts of themselves overseas are getting what comes to them in my opinion for screwing over U.S. workers whom have lost their jobs or have had to self demote themselves job-wise just to put food on the table.
  17. Maybe, maybe not, image if it only takes the disabling of a key component to bypass the whole thing. But since we don't know what will become of the merger all we can do is speculate. Malware writters will always figure a way around even the toughest of defenses with the OS itself being the biggest downfall of all. It's like a professional thief; sure you lock all your doors and windows on the first floor of the house, but that open window with curtains flapping in the wind on the second floor adjacent to a tree in the yard offers another slightly more difficult entry point.
  18. I'm not sure this even pertains to the problem you're having, however perhaps you could use the built-in browser tools to remove the cache. I know on systems with allot of junk the progress bar will keep repeating until it's finished, even Internet Explorer can take some minutes to delete a ton of Temporary Internet Files if it isn't cleaned that often. This isn't really recommended however if you do have allot of junk on your system temporarily disabling the real-time/resident protection of your installed antivirus will allow CCleaner to delete the junk files much faster. If/when CCleaner starts behaving normally again remember to run it at least once per day to keep if from taking too long to remove junk files.
  19. I wouldn't call myself a Win98 user anymore as I only use my old system about once every three to four months to transfer some of my XP systems backups to, and update the security software on it (antivirus, antispyware) just in case my XP system goes kaput. Yeah it wasn't all that bad, but it's instability was always it's downfall, I actually miss MS-DOS mode because allot of junk could be removed in DOS via a simple batch file. ------------------ I don't know if it's possible to remove the whole RegSeeker Backup folder via CCleaner, however a batch file will. a. Here's how to remove the backups and the Backup folder via a batch file: 1. Open Notepad. 2. Copy the text listed in the CODE box below and paste it into the Notepad window. 3. Save it as for example including the qoutes "Remove Backups.bat" into the folder containing RegSeeker.exe. If you wish you can even create a link pointing to the batch file. @echo offecho ** WARNING **echo This will delete all filetypes in theecho RegSeeker Backup folder.echo.pausedel /q "backup\*.*"rmdir "backup"clsexit ------------------ b. I didn't have to do anything to CCleaner's .ini files at all for my Win98 system. Come to think of it I have never checked to make sure it actually removed the Internet Explorer junk files (temporary internet files, cookies, history) solely because I've been using home-made batch files for years to do all that in MS-DOS mode just before I run a DOS virus scanner. If you want the batch files tell me and I can post them, however you'll more than likely have to modify them for your German version of Windows as the batch files use actual folder paths. As for modifying the Internet Explorer cleaner portion in CCleaner that would have to come from the CCleaner developer as it's using some sort of SpecialKey that I know nothing about, it isn't just some simple typed out folder locations, etc.
  20. Official press release This should answer the antispyware question, well actually anti-malware question, it's quoted from the official press release:

    Host File

The MVPS hosts file blocks a whole ton of junk. I just copied the entries from their hosts file and pasted it into my already bloated hosts file because I didn't want mine to be overwritten and lost. If anyone isn't going to use the MVPS hosts file here's a tid bit of info I found very interesting and important in the readme.txt file, and quickly applied it to my system with positive results:
  22. Just look at already created entries in winapp.ini and winapp2.ini to get an ideal of how to make your own, it isn't difficult at all. Just make sure you double, or even triple check what you've made since a goof up could cost you a whole parent folder of files, or if you have a registry key to remove you could wipe out a whole hive. Here's the RegSeeker winapp2.ini entry, I'm not adding it to the winapp2.ini thread hence recklessly wiping out RegSeeker backups could mean the reinstallation of Windows: [RegSeeker] LangSecRef=3024 DetectFile=%ProgramFiles%\RegSeeker\RegSeeker.exe Default=False FileKey1=%ProgramFiles%\RegSeeker\Backup|*.* ; Allows CCleaner to delete the backups, use at your own risk!
