  1. Don't panic! When you turn on your computer just keep tapping F8 as if you were typing until an option comes up on screen to load in safe mode.Use your arrow keys to select this. Then when it's all on screen, just a basic screen, go to where you normally go to run the defrag.
  2. Hello MLSA and welcome to the forum Have you tried doing a defrag in safe mode?

  4. Do you want to remove the windows media player shell as here, http://urbandude.com/2005/05/removing-medi...ight-click.aspx Or is this what you want? http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...5865&hl=WMP

    Issues

When you use "Issues" you will be asked if you want to make a backup. The files are deleted, but if a problem happens because of this, you can click the backup and restore the issues you deleted.
  6. Self-hypnosis is what married women use to get themselves through the twice-weekly chore!
  7. I could think of more pleasant ways to welcome a first time poster.
  8. I really don't know if it would make anyone feel any better about computer failure http://www.jsifaq.com/SF/Tips/Tip.aspx?id=10822
  9. Have continued this via a PM as it is not really relevant to the thread now. (Sorry for the hijack!)
  10. None at all Tony, and none in C\programs
  11. I have downloaded it Tony and it is certainly easy to use the search facility. I have found 100 entries for AOL which as you know I don't have (it came bundled with PC)! I take it, these 100 entries, I can just highlight all and press delete?
  12. Eldmannen my Swedish friend, It is so kind of you to suggest that I am illiterate and have an infested computer, you certainly know how to cheer me up on a boring Sunday evening.!
  13. Hell Matt and welcome after peeping through the window for so long!! In a perfect world there would be no need for scanners and spyware and anti malware programs. However we live in the real world where people are attracted to porn, popups and movie clips ect. It's human nature. It's also human nature for people to take advantage of this by dropping malicious things onto other peoples computers. If you have looked here as often as you say, you would see that in posts in the hjt logs for instance, advice on how you catch spyware is often offered with links for people new to computers. Also tips like one AV only. You can only offer advice, you cannot ram it down people's throats. Even on forums such as Wilders it's not unusual for the above selections to be quoted. We all have our own ideas on what is best for our computers, it's down to personal preference really.
  14. Hello ozzieboy and welcome to the forums Are you using XP? Do you get any sort of error message at all? Is your path of your installation C/programs? (or whichever is your drive letter) Is this after a "clean" and not an issues scan? I have an HP 1215 and luckily have no problem like yours!
  15. Thats for the reply Tony. I have deleted the subkey and looked in the contol panel ( although I had an idea it wasn't listed there ) When I first got this computer it came with all the usual unwanted things packaged on it, one of them being AOL if I wanted it - I didn't as I'm quite happy with Tiscali
  16. I use Internet Explorer and always have ( yes I know, but I like it!), and was wondering why at HKLM/software I have a mozillaplugin with a sub catogary of @viewpoint.com/VMP. Have read its a PUP. Should I delete it? Any ideas how it got there?
  17. I've never really thought about that. Every so often windows asks to compact my folders in Outlook Express. As far as I have been told ( by DJLizard) this re-compresses the deleted e-mail files (.dbx files which are only marked for deletion) and then removes everything that was deleted
  18. Just a thought, is there any milage in a reboot after clearing out the cache?
  19. Hello richn13 and welcome to the forum There is an option to back up the registry cleaning part of Ccleaner, (the issues ) Have a read of the beginnners guide here, it will help you quite a bit. http://www.internetrotsyourbrain.com/ccleanerbeginnersguide/
  20. Thank you Mike and TODgirl. People help me, I just pass it on!!
  21. Anthony, try looking here to see if it helps explain this a bit for you http://www.internetrotsyourbrain.com/ccleanerbeginnersguide/ Look on the left under winapp2.ini
  22. Hello Tori and welcome to the forum, When you press the analyze button and it comes up with the list of files saying "no files have been deleted yet", are you then pressing the "Run Cleaner" button as this will then delete the files for you.
  23. CCleaner is one of the safest cleaners around. As it offers the facility of a backup when you do the issues scan, you have the ability to merge them back if any problems arose due to your system setup.
