  1. check out the VW GTI 2.0 FSI - yes! a turbo engine and yes! one that kicks in the lower rev range 1800 onwards, which makes more sense having a turbo than those which kick in at higher revs , the engine is a 200 HP belter! really makes sense for a car its class and size!
  2. I'm gonna use AVG7.5 till I continue to get updates after which ......... Avast I guess would be it! and then as for AVG Rover the Story is over! :|
  3. picture resizer freeware version great little utility to have... I even use this to resize pics for my cellphone.
  4. simplest way hold down the num lock key ( I think ) could be the caps key for 5secs to 10secs and it automatically gets into the beep mode and alerts you to caps lock and num lock
  5. thanks Dennis... sorry I must have missed out that post of yours..
  6. Hi all, whats the best disk space allocation for Java pls? its default is 1000Mb! would it be ok to run it around 100Mb ??

  8. thats what the 9-5 slavery grind is all about, keep the bills flooding in and people will put their heads down and they can keep everyones a$$ in control.... when things go out of hand create a bit of disorder, then one can create a new order to their liking

  11. Yep! it does, infact I had to save (in cookies to keep ) the login.yahoo.com for the safety seal function to prevent CCleaner from wiping it out...
  12. yes CCleaner doesn't search for all leftovers, I personally tend to use JV16 Power tools last freeware edition - does take care of the rest ! as also RegScrubXP occassionally does what was missed out on. - should you intend to remove the hotfix uninstallers you might want to try the above in addition to CCleaner.
  13. thanks guys will try both ....... but if I may and that is if anybody has tried both nu2 and UBCD, which one works best pls? or which is the most efficient in terms of a bootable and or partial recovery/repair modules etc...
  14. Whats Iphone like anyway? anybody used it , using it? I suppose its like any other phone, if you buy your own instrument and not go with contracts you'd be better off eh? how much do these cost in US and Canada; coz here in New Zealand you'd be looking at $1100.00 !! steep as!! about (880.00US) for an Ipod basically!- Yes!! coz they come locked to AT&T's network in US ; there's a company in NZ who's selling plugins for it by which you could record messages and dash them off as a text message to another phone ! <http://consumerist.com/consumer/northern-exposure/att-draws-wrath-of-iphone+seeking-alaskans-271742.php> There's a Chinese variant called tphone (identical specs is what i've been given to believe) hehehehehe Wanted to know the ergonomics and day to day user friendliness?? ( the only experience I have of anything of Apple's is their Ipod ( man the damn interface sucks!!, time consuming, cumbersome and really taxes my patience allright!) - its a good thing I don't own it! .....phew
  15. As we have a Freeware topic I thought we might start a new topic for tips/tricks and tweaks... Just to get it started I'll share the one I recently learned Making new icons without any extra software - with what youve got in windowsXP
  16. Tried the function in Nero "create a bootable disc" - just didn't do the job; had to insert NTLDR and NTDetect and thought it would insert the code for boot.ini but to no avail and a CD only worth the rubbish bin. Whats the easiest, least complicated way to create a bootable for WinXP? Further is there a method to make it more generic? for instance the one bootable for XP and all its versions eg Home, Professional etc? Another thing that crossed my mind was whether the same one Bootable disc could be deployed for different systems configurations in terms of disk partitionsby by (perhaps) creating folders with suitably coded boot.ini? and whether the system would read through all the folders and execute the best match?? - just a thought.. Used to be really simple with Dos just the three files; command.com,IO.sys, & ?? ..... cant really remember what those were; funny but its been a while doesn't seem like its as simple with windows is it? (Would really appreciate any guidance; trying to fix a pc which keeps re-starting in any and every mode even tried the advanced modes under F8 .... checked the hard-disk it goes allright ! ) Thought having a winxp bootable would be great ! cheers PS: most sites make a mention of floppy disks well don't even have a floppy drive to begin with no more! need info as regards files etc that I should have on the intended winxp bootable
  17. the problem I faced was removing the older version when I had installed 1.5.. it seemed to have two entries in Add remove progs... none clearly stating which was which .... I fear I'll have three now Wats the best way to install 1.6, without loosing my MS Suite and some other startups which I made sure were restored to their earlier start at windows start up state ( and despite which lost them - with 1.5 ) Spybot didn't have any answers for me ! their forum is simply pathetic!!
  18. after connecting to the internet, check CCleaner cookies section as well to see the ones you'd like to keep as also certain applications that you might want to exclude could be added to the exclude list.
  19. great to see we're a well focussed community here people! good on yous. my prescription thankfully hasn't changed for quite some years now; which is always good news. this forum is truly well managed, responsive, informative, creative and above all its ease in access.... carry on with the great work !! 20. Kenny, 'coz I like the smell of burning malware when I get to bed ..... cheers
  21. Kenny SP1 could very well be a part 'INCORPORATED' in SP2 is what you are trying to c o n v e y; so followed after reading the link you very kindly provided ... many thanks!! gist of the above link is.........: 'Overview Windows? XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) includes all previously released updates for the operating system. This update also includes a small number of new functionalities, which do not significantly change customers? experience with the operating system. This white paper summarizes what is new in Windows XP SP3.' The above excerpt clearly indicates why SP2 installed machines do not have SP1 that users can see but have all the features of SP1 I N C O R P O R A T E D in SP2 Davey, thanks for the tip as regards the uninstallation feature for SP2 provided for by SP3 - will look it up ta
  22. why the supposition that everybody would have IE7 PRO?? I don't. downloading and saving is exactly what I do but if people read it right - I clearly stated I was in the process of downloading 224MB ............. which got aborted for speed reasons (perhaps)............... and when I restarted the download it did so right from the scratch ................ NOW ...in some cases it continues from where it left it at! and hence the question whether there was a way to pause downloads? If not, was there a way to find that particular temporary internet file and prevent CCleaner from deleting it ! Regardless of all the other intellingent ways of using CCleaner !
  23. thanks Davey, but wat I meant was.... is SP2 and its patches/updates not taken care of by SP3 .... i.e to say if I do install SP3 it should as one would think have every feature SP2 covered taken care off! and hence safe to remove Sp2 updates which could be done automatically by installing SP3 .... dunno if thats how it works and need to find answers to just that! coz Kenny suggested otherwise and hence my question (" do you have SP1 on your machine" ) as what about people who started off with SP2 (like myself) we don't have SP1, I suppose that corroborates what I mentioned in the above para ...
  24. Hi all, Is it possible to Spybot to run test and shutdown the same way as Andavari has made it possible for CCleaner? Further, I'd like to incorporate CCleaner, Spybot and AVG in a single batch file to run tests and shutdown as also have individual batch files - just wondering if its possible? got only as far as getting avg control centre to run ) novice at it, but keen to learn; all help would be appreciated cheers!!
