  1. AS far as running CCleaner at startup is concerned - the only files it would really clean on my pc would be the ones I'll never ever want ! Made Sure of That !! Rest assured!!! having an auto shutdown would be a great option ! and now this in light ( thanks to you guys) would be the most sensible option - hope there are no program conflicts ? What add on provides for IE7 to pause downloads pls?? Further, my earlier question .... how does one track and trace the temporarily paused download in CCleaner and prevent that particular entry to be deleted (cleaned) without checking the ' only clean files over 48hrs ' ... ????
  2. While on this subject of downloads.... Is it possible to resume cancelled downloads atall? coz I was in the process of downloading Envisioneer4.5 (Cadsoft.com); unfortunately no zip file available for it and its bloated 224Mb! Perhaps even a way to temporarily pause it would be great ! Further, how do I prevent CCleaner from cleaning it out on the next restart or while running the program? many thanks
  3. Does installing XP SP3 mean all earlier updates for SP2 can be removed safely? doesn't the installation of sp3 do it automatically; coz it would be pointless having the unnecessary updates in the system! or else how does one know which updates are redundant? further what .NET version works with sp3 ? Would anybody really recommend having .Net?? apart from it being a massive environment to load and keep for only a few programs that really require it ( if its not really usefull, I'd rather do without the programs that require .net - just wondering...) cheers!
  4. try malwarebytes.org and download their Rogue Remover freeware, see if it helps! don't forget to run your registry cleaner after youve done the above could save you a lot of time and effort Good luck PS; You might want to download Rogue remover on a friends pc and then install it on yours if your internet browser is being prevented from doing its job oweing to the malware on your machine
  5. Would be glad to change to Avast but the last time I used it on my WinXP 256MB it seemed to be terribly slow, much slower than my AVG 7.5 ! Besides it checks each and every site for every new connection I make to the internet, and on every tab it tends to slow down the connection, AVG 7.5 doesn't really slow down the internet connectivity and page downloads does it?? I had all the available options checked in Avast , dunno if that slowed it down but If any of yous have suggestions I'd much appreciate many thanks
  6. any idea as to the exact use of RegASsasin by malwarebytes.org? is it fully automated to detect malware registry entries and delete them or does that require to be done manually?
  7. how does one turn off adobe flash player?
  8. try quick media converter, you'll just have to google it; can't remember where I got it from but its great; does the job - NO FUSS!
  9. Hi there, does anybody know of a freeware to password or secure the flash drive, should be a small program; I really do need it and i believe all who use flash drives must secure them too
  10. Bottom line..........Do not check the box for Hot Fix Unistallers .... this will keep everything intact; I do the same for windows size/position cache and windows update.
  11. This wife must have been an engineer ........... Husband says to wife while she's driving at 35mph; " you know, got to tell you this now, but i want a divorce; I can't be with you any longer" , the wife speeds up and gets to 40mph; the husband now demands ......." and I will have my house back thank you..." the wife speeds up to 45mph........ now the husband a bit frustrated at not evoking a verbal logical response says ..." Ahh, and I'll have my credit cards, my car, my boat and the jewellery too " The wife speeds the vehicle to 55mph and just as she approaches a bridge with a concrete shoulder rail / barrier she says " thats allright hun, you can have that if you so want; I have everything I need!!" The husband astonished at hearing this says " Really and what might that be??? " the wife very calmy,as she aimed the vehicle to the concrete barrier said " THE AIRBAG!"
  12. Three engineering students were gathered discussing who must have designed the human body??? One said " it was a mechanical engineer Just look at all the joints" another said " no it was probably an electrical engineer. The nervous system has many thousands of electrical connections" the last one said " No, actually it had to have been a civil engineer. Who else would run a toxic waste pipeline through a recreational area? "
  13. I thinkk I'm gonna stick to AVG 7 it does its job right, isn't bloated like ver8, don't need a built in Spyware when I have Spybot running anyway .... 50min of scan time is way too long when I don't need a spyware scan
  14. nope its called winclean memory optimiser and thats all it does
  15. LOL ) Thats brilliant!! This one I only heard on the radio : A man in Australia got snapped by a speed camera at 3am in a 50K zone doing 70, he got back within half an hour, flipped open the boot of his car, got a temp 70 K speed sign out and srewed it atop the original 50K sign, whipped out his camera and got his evidence before he drove back home.. Guess what?? He got snapped up on a police surveillance video in a mufti car parked along a side street, just across the road over his shoulder ! hhehehehe............. Well .................... the cops were quick to revoke the initial ticket and sent him another for the price of two !
  16. <wincleaner.com> try it! it doesn't gobble up the mem its meant to clear, works without any interruption, and its great for minimal ram resource ofcourse the best option is to add more ram but this program does really work !
  17. cheers for that will give it a go
  18. <http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885624/en-us> <http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817900/en-us> Hope the above helps; I'll keep an eye out for your problem; sorry couldn't do any better at this stage.
  19. anybody checked for system resources consumption or done a scan yet ? if its quicker than Avast online and offline; one might still consider using it; ie if one can really avoid the aforesaid incorporated tool bar / phishing mumbo-jumbo
  20. is SBC a wireless network? If so you'd probably see a great deal of variation; apart from the peak / off-peak variation that we all go thru... try changing your TCP window size : 1460*44 * 2 or 4 or 8( 8 probably not ) , MTU / MSS values 1500/1460 check the TOS value to be 80, and reset Host priority settings in the registry.... might help in a miniscule way; won't exactly increase the speed as much as quickly unpack the packets of info and help in that way ...
  21. Just a word of caution as regards uninstalling Spybot: If ones made changes to the Start up Programs manager in Spybot its gonna affect those programs when you uninstall.. make sure to revert that to state you had it in before uninstalling ( atleast thats what I encountered, when I uninstalled Spybot; I lost the entire MS suite, just sort of lost the plot )
  22. Hi Davey, Good sound advice! I am always open to AVG hasn't popped open any windows in explorer on my machine yet ( fingers crossed ) Hoping Spybot pulls its socks up and speeds things up, atleast back to what it used to be; its a great program which one wouldn't want to lose in a hurry. Glad I've stuck to WinXP, don't need the cosmetics do we now?? Cheers mate
  23. I reckon I'll stick to the current AVG free edition its served me very well indeed! get prompt and efficient updates, isn't slow ( did try AVast and its terribly slow, full system scan is excruciatingly painful! ) I can't afford to run it on 256 K Ram Whats with the current version of Spybot ?? takes ages for it to load and equally long to scan, its a bummer coz I really depend on it at the moment
