  1. anybody that uses Comodo Firewall+Anti-virus? Is its basic software comparable to AVG with its integrated anti-spyware? and how would you compare it to Avast?? Besides is it a free trial period software or a true software ?
  2. As regards AVAST : when it does detect a virus and blocks it does it have a button to heal the file as opposed to moving it to the virus-chest or deleting and aborting connection? it doesn't seem to have the best pop-up options in its 'warning' window ..... Have I overlooked something here?
  3. too right Andavari! well atleast they have a couple of command line options available to the freeware user... but as far as SuperAntivirus is concerned - its truly pathetic when it comes to automation!
  4. really hope MBAM introduce better Command Line options in the near future
  5. I haven't gone in for some imaging software for the simple reason that they require me to have .Net framework and I'm still pretty unclear as to its real practical value ( having .Net platform running in WinXP Home ) ... If someone could throw more light on it in context of not just the 'Imaging Software' but a few other types of Software that increasingly depend on .Net platforms ..
  6. Hi Kenny, thats right! I thought the same but there are certain files in my computer\documents - now this is not accessible! says 'access denied' and yes! I'm the only user and hence there are no other accounts , not even guest accounts... having mentioned that I do have my system on a wireless router based home network but I don't see as to why that should be the issue when the said folder is accessed locally!? any ideas? ( its WinXP Home edition we're talking about )
  7. shouldn't the one and only account on a computer also be the administrator account, coz there's no way of accessing certain files on the computer without logging in as administrator and the only way to log in as administrator is to go into safe mode! Isn't it? or am i missing something here....
  8. Hi Dennis, Yep they all recommend wmp11 be installed but I simply detest the way wmp11 works ! its been a while since I last installed it and for some reasons it was a pain and I had done away with it .... but makes me wonder why the mtp drivers would be a part of wmp11 ( if thats the case ) its something USB related and I wouldn't be using the sync function anyway... I always use copy paste in My Music thanks for your help as always ! =)
  9. the mp3 player works on my winxp home and won't on another ... its detected correctly but doesn't install for MTP driver that it searches for...? has any1 had similar issues with mp3 players / USB plugnplay? where can I get the MTP kit from? I looked up microsoft but they have a SDK for winmedia and that doesn't do it!
  10. Anyone know of a good Media Streamer (video and audio)
  11. these logs can be configured to overite every so often, I wouldn't want to do away with those in a hurry; I regularly monitor the health of the system viewing those and at times they are the best pointer to any issues cropping up in your system which could be stemmed before it gets too late! alternatively you could just chose not to have em alltogether ! why bother cleaning them if you don't want them anyway?
  12. Yes Dennis your links were complete rubbish! ) you got it right mate, its the line-in input which is ... 1) NOT relayed through to my headset (Bluetooth) The issue being there's no volume control for LINE-IN in Bluetooth SCO mode 2) Seems like most PCs have this generic issue as regards (Line-in) output volume... just so feeble as compared to the Mic socket .... ( at the same mp3 player volume) - Not quite sure if the latest driver would sort it out but so far I've preferred not to tinker with drivers ( if it ain't broke don't fix ....) Are you able to recall your solution for playing your mini-disk player through your PC (presumably through a bluetooth headset )
  13. Heheheh yeah with Christmas coming up I could stick this on my letter to the man with the LONG white beard ) He's pretty stretched you know.... dunno If he's still got his reindeer, buggered if he doesn't coz the price of gas ain't getting him down under ( New Zealand) Oh by the way the second link was good to know about as regds there being a 3.5mm bluetooth adapter dongle..... though I do require all audio out thru the PC - yep! not going to give up on it now ) ; besides my headset can only handle 2 stations simultaneously, and one of them will be the cell phone Got in touch with Bluesoleil only to be told their software needs to have a SN purchased !! absurd! did the hardware manufacturer of the dongle not purchase it of them?? or did they take for granted that it was pirated over the Great Wall .......... hey thanks for the links, should hope to find a solution.... fingers crossed. Ta
  14. there's this software 'Virtual Audio Cable' on trial basis and subsequent purchase <http://software.muzychenko.net/eng/vac.html> Not exactly the type of solution I'm after......... if you get my drift

  16. Hi Dennis, As usual, you have given it a thought thats brilliant - you love the idea of finding new ways to achieve something and I suppose just like myself .... you would want to try new things out, just because you can! Yep! got an MP3 player with FM function to it which I could always directly connect using a single(x2 male) 3.5mm pin to either TV/tuner in or line-in and ofcourse I receive it straight thru to my pc speakers or external speakers/ headphones but at times I'm mobile about the house and work ( home office situation) and since I use a bluetooth headset for my phone I intend to utilise its multi-channel capacity to play me the radio station as well - don't intend to use any software / internet radio for 2 reasons; slow internet and only got 256Mb ram every bit precious to my work the bluetooth dongle I use is IVT's Bluesoleil 2.6.0.9 and its got the Bluetooth SCO driver for the headset audio gateway which doesn't seem to pick up the input from line in or tv/tuner ... a solution to the above is exactly what I intend to find many thanks Regds
  17. Seen a few utilities for Mac is there a real good Line-in/ Mic input playthrough digitiser utility ?? for WindowsXP Home ( not to taxing on resources ) I really need to have my radio station playing thru to my bluetooth headset...
  18. How about Freewayre DJ DJ for freeware like on the freeway let us have a complementary pack won't ya? All the best!
  19. What MS should have really done was to skip the cosmetic changes and add greater value to XP by incorporating advanced scheduled tasks systems, and a few good points vista has without covering it up in layers of make-up.......... sure will go crusty and won't look too appealing sooon.......... they forgot they were developing an OS for a PC and got carried away creating one for some sort of a Media Player Machine PS: has anyone purchased a new PC with Vista on it and tried uninstalling Vista to install XP?? Its a pain having to be forced to purchase a new PC with Vista on it and greater pain to install XP (uninstall vista )
  20. would having DNS client disabled in Hostsman have caused this atall? thats the only other thing on my pc which is new ...............I wouldn't think so but as you can tell I'm at my wits-end and trying to provide any and all possible causes and changes made to the system... Ok this one could be crucial : lansman size buffer is the only other value set at 16384 could this be conflicting with the tcp window on my wireless router, wireless Lan ?? should I be checking a certain service atall to prevent any conflict between wireless internet and wireless lan ??
  21. Take caution to what Andavari has to say about such software.......... but just to answer your question; you might want to try (with descretion) Pimpfish downloader ( sorry you'll have to google it )
  22. Just noticed the MaxTcpWindowSize in the registry for winxp keeps being changed automatically despite re-setting permissions to administrator access only, even denying the system access to it; for some strange reason and I suspect its the netgear router that keeps changing the value from 130640 ( which gives me a good speed even when data-capped - at least a better dial up speed!! ) to 16400 (which just slows it down heaps!!) now using the same service providers' wireless modem didn't make any changes to the registry but using their wireless modem card inserted in the wireless router is the culprit I guess... Does anybody have any ideas as to preventing Tcp Window size from being automatically changed ?? coz its a value the user should be free to set and the ISP could govern the data transmission speeds ( NOT ! how fast I'm able to unpack the package received at my end!) thanks
  23. Dont forget to download the new QMC (Quick Media Converter ) Ver 3.5.7 it comes with CamStudio which could be very useful apart from new formats for conversion which make it a good freeware to use
