  1. checked programs are installed, unchecked means they are not installed just uncheck MSN Messenger, then hit Next, and it should uninstall it
  2. I wanted to try this out, so I 'unhid' a few programs, I noticed that when you unhide them, they actually don't show up in the Add/Remove programs window.. but they show up in the Add/Remove Windows Components tab (it's in the same window as add/remove programs) that's where the programs appear to might want to look there, Brenda2007 and thanks TonyKlein. was able to uninstall a lot of junk I never really needed.. including Pinball, Media Player, IIS server, WordPad, HyperTerminal, Phone Dialer.. all that junk was hidden! it's uninstalled now.
  3. woops, TonyKlein is right. the Messenger service has nothing to do with MSN Messenger two different things, even though the names are similar.. it should be disabled anyways though, since it's pretty useless and just takes up memory and I had no idea MSN Messenger could be uninstalled like that. I'll be sure to pass that info to anyone who needs to remove the "uninstallable" MSN Messenger
  4. if you are talking about the MSN messenger that came already installed on your Windows XP machine.... you actually can't uninstall it. the program is integrated into the OS. (microsoft is tricky, aren't they ) the only thing you can do, unfortunately, is disable it so it can't run. go to Start > run > type services.msc find the entry "Messenger" and disable it, and/or do what TonyKlein suggested if however, you installed Windows Live Messenger yourself (from their website) then you should be able to get rid of it. to get it to 'reappear' back into the add/remove program list, simply go back to their website and reinstall it. (like Jimemy said) this will "refresh" the install. after that, it should appear in the add/remove program list, and you should be able to safely uninstall though I think what you are dealing with, is the version that is stuck on your computer
  5. Robbie if you have a Windows XP reinstallation CD, you can use that. if you don't, I think you can also order them online for pretty cheap I don't like Vista, I will never use it. I'll stick with XP
  6. that's a nice program. you can edit a lot of different components on programs check out what I did to CCleaner.exe; changed icons, changed buttons, ect pretty good eh? I should be making skins for CCleaner
  7. I'm 18 I thought I would be one of the younger ones, seems there's even younger people here woops *cough* i meant I'm 21... cause you have to be 21 to drink right?
  8. as long as you can disable it on the installation screen, like the other sub-menu options for CCleaner.. cause I won't be using that feature, and I don't like having a bunch of extra unneeded sub-menu options sounds like a good idea though
  9. yeah, there's sites that you can download .dll files from, such as www.dll-files.com it's a trustworthy site and I've used it many times although, lang-1033.dll isn't a universal windows .dll file.. it was specifically created for CCleaner, so chances are you probably won't find it on any .dll download sites unless the file you need is _ISRES1033.dll ? _ISRES1033.dll is a file needed for installation shields (installing software) if that's the file you are missing, you can just download it from www.dll-files.com then put it in the C:\Windows\System32 directory if lang-1033.dll is the file you are missing, then I have no idea how to fix that. Mr. G is probably the only one that can help you with that maybe the new CCleaner version isn't compatible with Hebrew yet? that's the only thing I can think of (since lang-1033.dll is a language translation file..)
  10. this sounds like a strange problem.. what operating system do you have? Vista? XP? and what version of IE? have you tried simply disabling the AutoComplete feature altogether, within IE? go to Tools > Internet Options > Content > Auto Complete disable it from there.. then hit the buttons "Clear Forms/Passwords" after that, close all IE windows, then run CCleaner check all of the Internet Explorer options in CCleaner (cookies, history, autocomplete, ect..) and clean them all out after all that, run IE again, and see if it fixes it if that doesn't help.. then I have no clue. maybe updating IE would fix it? get the latest version at: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/...ie/default.mspx
  11. have you tried unchecking Menu order Cache and User Assist History in the Advanced tab? these are the options that clear your start menu
  12. you said this never used to happen before.. do you know what changed? did you update CCleaner? what version are you using maybe you actually are cleaning it, but don't realize it? make sure in options > advanced, you have show detailed log of Firefox files checked otherwise, it won't show any of the cache files when you do a scan! the only other thing I can think of, is FireFox is still running when you try to clean it. nothing will get cleaned if Firefox is still running in the background.. hit ctrl+alt+del and see if FireFox is listed in processes. if it is, then kill it. then try running CCleaner again
  13. yeah, use the winapp2.ini for extra applications to clean.. if the application you have still isn't in there, you can request that they add it in there for you.. or you can script it into the file yourself, if you know how to do that ofcourse.. as for the uninstalled app that's still showing in CCleaner.. it would help if you told us what app it is. try reading this thread, it's a similar problem, and might help you: http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=12533 you might have to browse your Application Data folder, and manually clean out the program's files from there.
  14. see this post: http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=12077 you can fix it by deleting the Firefox folder in your application data C:\Documents and Settings\*Username*\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\ (*username* = your windows login name) might want to browse that folder for other uninstalled programs too.. orphaned files like to hide in there.
  15. thank you also q231 (I just saw your post) iDump is even better. I think I'll use that one 'cause it comes with an installer and creating a whole other partition/drive.. that seems like a lot of extra work I think I'm too lazy to be that organized
  16. yeah, this was the first thing I tried.. but doing that is not possible, you can't browse through your songs that way. Apple makes it very difficult to extract songs from Ipods.. and thank you hazelnut! that program worked great! Copy Complete! 4Gb in 559 files copied in 00:05:44. (11MB/sec) woohoo! I got it all back I'll be keeping this program
  17. hello, I reformatted awhile back, losing all my songs/media in the process, however my Ipod still holds all of my stuff.. I've been trying to figure out if it's possible, to send songs from your Ipod back onto your computer... I found an article that explains that it is possible; http://www.jakeludington.com/ask_jake/2005...to_windows.html it says certain programs can allow you to send songs from your Ipod back onto your computer. so I've been looking for such programs on the internet, but I can't find any that are freeware can someone help me? anyone know any Ipod>PC transfer programs? there must be some free (full version) ones out there on the internet, somewhere...... so far i've had no luck I would be very grateful if someone can help me out EDIT: I'm only finding trial versions that only let you transfer 1-5 songs.. I'm about to give up
  18. nothing bad will happen from deleting cookies. it's ok to clear them all if you want. when you visit websites, they store files on your computer, called cookies, to store certain data.. for instance, login data. example; if you delete the cookie from forum.piriform.com, you will get logged out from the forums.. you would have to log back in. (when you log back in, that cookie will be recreated) if you visit these forums alot, you probably want to keep that cookie (so you stay logged in to the site) it might be good to keep cookies for certain sites you visit normally, so these sites can remember who you are. (for instance, any forums you go to, sites you use for email, ect) but definitely don't keep cookies from unknown sites (advertising.com, 207.com, ect..) these are advertising/tracking cookies! they could collect data from you. I keep cookies from a few different sites, so I don't have to log in every visit.. it saves a lot of time when you are already logged in when you visit their page hope this helps a little, and helps you decide which cookies you might want to keep/delete
  19. my 80gb hard drive is actually 74gb I guess I always just thought that the 6 GB missing was just space being used, as the frame of my partitioning, or something.. looking back at it, that doesn't make much sense, does it.. 6 GB is way too much for partitioning space now I know the truth; the 6 GB isn't being used.. it just doesn't exist
  20. wow! that's sounds like an amazing program. I will definitely try it out on my ipod. did anyone see the conference demo video? http://www.mojopac.com/portal/content/how/demo.jsp ahaha! i can't believe he dropped the laptop ! "woops!" he probably broke it..
  21. talldog, i'm pretty sure that can always happen.. no matter what security you have unless you're running IPTables or something
  22. ah.. well, as long as there is a way to bypass that 2 month rule.. I'm all for it!
  23. I think that when you search for registries, you should be able to right click an entry, and have the option to send it to the exclude list it would make things SO much easier.. right now, if you want to add a registry to the exclude list, you have to enter the entire address manually.. and sometimes the registry addresses are so long, it's a nightmare here is what I'm talking about see those huge addresses that have a million numbers? you have to type those in manually! I only did a few of those and I already have a headache you should be able to click and drag them onto the exclude list, or something. there should definitely be a faster way that's what I think
