  2. the only thing i can think of, is.. you might be able to recover the temp internet files (from that site you visited) using Recuva, in the box, just search for file extensions: *.htm, *.html, *.tmp, *.txt, ect... this will search for temp internet files, and cookies you have deleted.. if you are lucky the name of that site will pop up. however if you have CCleaner set to 'secure deletion of files' (its in options > settings) its impossible to recover any files it deletes... your best bet will probably be to just try to remember the site name though try to think hard? EDIT: ah, i just got a better idea. do you have a ROUTER? alot of routers keep web activity logs. if you do, type in 192.168.0.1 into your address bar to log into your router (or whatever the address is to your router) and see if it keeps web logs. mine does, maybe yours does
  3. same here. isn't CCleaner great?
  4. hey, i have a suggestion.. instead of waiting until Spyware is already on your system, and THEN removing it.... how about blocking the spyware before-hand, before it even gets a chance to go on your computer? just increase your security.. get a better browser, a firewall, ect.. if you have good security, you will hardly even find anything when you scan your system for spyware... maybe just the occasional tracking cookie using condoms is better then getting HIV and then trying to treat it! </bad metaphor>
  5. i just use the WinXP defragger. it gets the job done, plus it's already on the computer, so why not? no need to install another one and waste space
  6. alright, i'm installing it now thanks. edit: ahh, i have to install 60 something critical updates first before it will let me have SP2.. and half of these updates are for programs i don't even use (msn, outlook, wmp, ie..) installing all this isn't going to flood my 'Add or remove Programs' list, is it? that's what happened last time, i didn't like it oh well
  7. i have windows XP home edition i also heard once you upgrade, you can't uninstall it, is that true?
  8. yeah, what eagle00789 said.. unfortunately, it's not as simple as just moving a folder.. what program is it? is it freeware? i'm sure you can find/download it from the internet even if it's not freeware, you can still probably find it on p2p file sharing programs like LimeWire, BearShare, ect. since you already own the software, it's not illegal to download it onto another system
  9. so, i'm currently using windows SP1. and i'm wondering if i should update to a higher service pack i'm asking because, my friend says SP2 and higher is just clutter-ware and a big nuisance. and that it's definitely not worth getting. on the other hand, someone else i know says it's worth getting and that i should upgrade to SP4. the person that said it's not worth getting, is more computer experienced, so i'm taking his opinion higher then the other person. but what do you guys think? should i upgrade or not? what are the cons & pros? what exactly does it do? just increase security?
  10. i'm always on other peoples networks oh, and some places have free wireless internet access you can use. like where i live, some coffee shops have them. everyone always chills there with their laptops sometimes libraries have them too atleast where i live, anyway
  11. yessss. it definitely needs a deletion feature, where the user can pick how many passes are done on the files (DoD 3 passes, 7 passes, ect.) hurry! it needs to be implimented soon i'm getting impatient i need to clear out those files before the FBI searches my computer.. (just kidding)
  12. hmm that's interesting... ------ I am not able to recover large files like MPG, AVI, PST, QBW (Quickbooks), etc. or they recover as 0 bytes. What can I do? There are two possibilities here. 1. If the file system is FAT : Try recovering the data through the Contiguous Mode. After scanning the FAT partition, click on the Tools menu and go to Change Linking Mode. Now click on Contiguous Mode and attempt the recovery again. 2. If the file system is NTFS : In case the file system is NTFS, it may not be possible to recover such files. This is because the NTFS file system has its own recovery methods and keeps fixing errors to the file system while the disk is in a working condition. Therefore, any fragmentation is a direct result of the file system's failure to correct inconsistencies to the partition. In this type of a situation, the software recovers what it finds in the first cluster occupied by a particular file. Often, that is not good enough as the file system's failure to correct errors results in extreme fragmentation. (source: http://www.stellarinfo.com/esupport/users/..._id=5&sid2= ) this is the only information i could find about it
  13. wow, you guys are hardcore neat freaks, eh? your computer has to be 100% error free / 100% defragged at any given time? i don't defrag / chkdsk very often.. maybe when i have a little extra tme on my hands, and/or i'm bored and have nothing better to do. on average, i do it once every 40 days or so, and my computer runs fine.. i think some of you guys are a little obsessive compulsive
