  1. ok I just disabled SSID. right now the security is on 'WEP', should I change it to WPA? what's the difference? I've looked all over my router settings, I don't see any MAC address logging.. I don't think my router does that and I also yelled out the window. the signal doesn't reach too far, so I'm sure the person on my network heard me "get off my network you douche!" edit: nevermind, I found where it logs MACs addresses, it's listed under "DHCP User List" thanks for the help !
  2. hi, there's currently an unknown user logged onto my wireless network is there a way to boot them off? i'm watching his web activity. at the moment, he's currently browsing myspace I don't know much about networking so I'm clueless. my router has a feature to block people from the network by their MAC address. how would I go about figuring out this users MAC address, so i can block them..? (all my router tells me about the user is, he is using local ip 192.168.0.101) i'm using an actiontec dsl modem/router
  3. using a reg cleaner every day is a little obsessive compulsive, once a month should be fine..
  4. Dwight K. Shrute would totally win. he would use his num-chucks and pepper spray, if he runs into trouble, he will use his voice-recognition wrist-watch, and call for back up Dwight =
  5. CeeCee, are you a moderator? just wondering, it seems like you feel you have power around here by the way, my post wasn't even that long.
  6. How to Access Your Microsoft Services: 1. Click Start 2. Click Settings 3. Select Control Panel 4. Double click Administrative Tools 5. Double click Services 6. Scroll down and highlight the service you want to adjust 7. Right-click on it and choose Properties 8. Click the stop button. 9. Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar. Services to Disable: 1. Smart Card / Smart Card Helper - If you don't have a smart card system, you don't need this service. As smart cards have really never taken off... i doubt you need this. Kill it. 2. TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper service - Unless you run NetBIOS on your system, you don't need this service. Kill it. 3. Uninterruptible Power Supply - Although I should have a UPS, I don't. If you don't, then disable this service. 4. Remote Registry service - This service allows one to remotely edit the registry through a network connection. If you are editing your registry remotely, then you are too jedi-ninja to be reading this guide. The rest of us should have this off for security reasons. 5. Error Reporting Service - A program crashes and microsoft wants to know about it. Give up your extra CPU cycles to help Gates polish his OS, or you can just disable it. 6. Wireless Zero Configuration - Unless you use wi-fi, you can safely stop this service. If you use wi-fi, this is actually a nice little service. 7. Alerter - This is so useless SP2 turns this off for you. For the rest of you folks, you should turn it off too. 8. Clipbook - This service allows you to cut and paste across your private network. Most programs that actually allow you to do this use their own ways for doing this.Useless.Stop it. 9. Computer Browser - If you are on a LAN, keep it enabled. If not, stop it. It allows you to see the other computers on your network. 10. FastUser Switching Compatibility - If you keep multiple users/logins on your current computer, you should leave this enabled. If you always log-in the same way as the same person, you should disable this. 11. Messenger Service - Kill it, kill it. We've been saying to kill this forever. 12. NetMeeting Remote Desktop Sharing Service - If you don't use NetMeeting, you should stop this service. 13. Network DDE/Network DDE DSDM - DDE DSDM was an excellent idea by Microsoft that flopped. Disable both of these. 14. Remote Desktop Help Session Manager Service - I use remote desktop all the time. However, you should not have it enabled unless you use it. 15. Telnet Service - This allows you to use telnet to log into your system from a remote location. It's a security risk so don't keep it enabled unless you use it.SP2 disables it by default now. - the above services are safe to disable. any other services might be needed by your system. only change them if you know what you're doing - disabling unneeded services is always a very good idea when i did it, i freed up atleast 50MB memory..
  7. sounds like you have corrupt/missing uninstallation files try re-installing ad-aware first. this will overwrite all the files and recreate anything missing after that, try uninstalling it again. it should work
  8. glad I could help! would be really neat if CCleaner could clean out those unused files in ApplicationData folder though..
  9. no, this isn't a bug, it has happened to me a few times.. what is going on is, CCleaner still sees firefox as 'installed', when it's not, because there's still peices of FireFox left behind on your computer.. (when you uninstall a program, sometimes some files get left behind) I had to search through my computer and make sure *all* of the programs files were gone here is some places you can check: go to Start > Run > type in 'RegEdit' there's a built in search feature, go to Edit > Find (at the top) and search for Mozilla, Firefox, ect.. it will search your whole registry for those names. delete anything it finds also, try browsing to these folders: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data C:\Documents and Settings\*YourUsernameHere*\Application Data (*yourusernamehere* = your windows login name) leftover files from uninstalled programs like to hide in there. find anything from Mozilla/Firefox and delete them note: this directory may be a "Hidden Folder" and it might be invisible to you. if you can't see it, you might need to go to Folder Options (in control panel) and tick the option "show hidden files and folders" after this, try re-running CCleaner, and see if firefox is still listed

  15. yeah i hate programs that install little sub-programs without your knowledge.. Kazaa installs some weird program, if you uninstall it, Kazaa won't run anymore AIM installs something also, called 'weatherbug' all these companies are basically getting paid to put junk on your computer i'm glad CCleaner hasn't sold out (yet) what you see is what you get although there's that Yahoo! searchbar thing.. but that's optional at the installation screen
