  1. Agreed. I think the next 5 months. Then... some 8x or 9x series Yes, but dual-core is the way to go. But nVidia and ATi definitely need to concentrate more on budget cards that are good performance and great prices for us normal poeple. We need another 6600GT!
  2. You're pushing it now Good brands in order of l337ness (IMHO) Mobos: Asus (Great all-round), ABit (great for overclocking), DFI (pretty UV reflective boards for LANners) MSI/Gigabyte (decent mid-range boards), ECS (absolutely horrible. Extremely Cr*ppy systems. I've got one ) CPU: AMD (Faster, less power consumption, overclocks easily), Intel (close, Intel isn't bad...) PSU: Antec (absolutely no competition at all) GPU: nVidia, ATi (ATi used to be superior. Now they've fallen behind) nVidia manufacturers: eVGA, [bFG, XFX] tie, PNY, other ATi manufactueres: Sapphire? Dunno RAM: Corsair, OCZ, others. Good RAM can make a sizeable difference, but not that much. Beware of Kingston Value RAM. That and my ECS mobo gave me repeated blue screens. Memory: Possibly Western Digital, due to their high-volume/low cost drives, Raptors, etc. Second might be Hitachi or Seagate, both haven't been doing too well (Hitachi is losing money cuz ipods are using less microdrives, Seagate ... well... haven't heard from them in a while) Monitors: Samsung! (Ok, I'm a little biased because I loooove my SyncMaster930B), Viewsonic, Dell (?) Coolers: Zalman, Antec, Coolermaster, (I've heard really bad things about thermaltake, but haven't had much problems with them myself) Peripherals: Logitech, Razer... but any good keyboard/ mouse is fine.

Ewido's not too bad, you can download their scanner too. But in my experience it didn't turn up any results that Ad-Aware/SpybotSD/MSAnti-Spy aka MS Defender didn't find.
  4. You're thinking about food when there's a pot full of pot GOLD!
  5. There's pot at the end of the rainbow? Where?
  6. Agreed TB FTW! It's far superior to Outlook

Many types of malware can avoid those cleaners. A good one that I would try is Kaspersky. http://www.kaspersky.com/
  8. This forum is IPB 2.1.4... newest is 2.1.6 I believe... I've seen a lot of exploits for 2.1.4 forums =O
  9. We'd have to build a wall in space. They want our Cinnabons and nice beaches.
  10. Oblivion is great, but it sometimes has problems with the uninstaller. Try uninstalling it with either Window's Uninstaller in the Add/Remove Programs of the Control Panel, or try the uninstaller within CCleaner. If not, you can try putting a post on the official Oblivion forums at www.theelderscrolls.com.
  11. I agree. Norton... no idea how that got on the list. A lot of businesses have some kind of bizzare twisted love affair with that fat bloated no-good piece-of-junk software.
  12. Don't get AM2... new technology is way overpriced, and a good regular 939pin mobo and CPU combo is sure to be supercheap... a X2 4400+ and Asus A8N-SLi mobo was only $400 last week, and it's sure to go down once AM2 comes out in full swing.
  13. TrendMicro is great, but it can take a while and sometimes it can't do anything to remove the virus. I use Nod32 for my anti-virus.
  14. That is a cool cat. And usually I don't like Macs. And usually I don't like cats. They're growing on me. Like a fungus. Not a bad fungus, but maybe a good fungus. lol.

    Help!

CHECK YOUR POWERSUPPLY! Also, post your computer hardware specs.
  16. I don't know if it would make that much of a difference. I don't think it would be as interesting, since all the data would be closer together and the arm wouldn't have to go crazy all over the place! If you really liked that video you can get a Raptor-X, which is a 10k RPM WD 74gB/150gB drive with a little window in it.
  17. That was in PopularScience last month. Probably going to turn out to be dust from some industry waste or perhaps a random explosion in the atmosphere >.>
  18. YouTube.com, the popular online movie site, was just hacked as of... a couple of hours ago. Don't know how long it will stay down, but the hacker left a little calling card. www.youtube.com EDIT: Ok, either a joke or office screwup. This appeared sometime within the last hour (?) Funny.

    Help

It's a secret message from someone stuck on a desert island. They only had enough battery power for that message.
  20. Ok, but first off, you might want to choose something other than Pinnacle... it has... issues... anyway For video editing, you will probably want a dual core CPU, which means something along the lines of an AMD X2 3800+ Also, you are going to need quite a bit of RAM. 2 GBs should do it, since moving around large amounts of files will need lots of memory. For a graphics card, you may need some kind of All-In-Wonder, since those cards allow you to sync up a video camera. An ATi 9800PRO AiW should suffice. You may or may not want to purchase an extra fast, 10k RPM hard drive. I don't know how much of a performance boost it will give, but you must be prepared to give up a lot of space (they are 74GB and 150GB versions.) Then again, movie files take up a lot of space so you may have to purchase a 400GB or even a 500GB drive.
  21. Good advice, everyone should do that. Never get lazy when installing or uninstalling things... especially when dealing with any type of Adware/Spyware cleaners.
  22. I've heard of that before. Weird stuff, but makes sense once you think about it.
  23. In my opinion, CompUSA is too... well... user friendly. As in, it's sort of a cross between Best Buy (This is a COM-PU-TER...) and electronics stores like Fry's, where you can buy practically anything. Not a bad selection, but usually not a whole lot. Neighboraaron, please give some input as to what you will be doing with your computer. It will help to be more specific. For example, if you're a gamer, then a 550W Modular PCI-E power supply might be something you want to get. On the other hand, if you simply want to browse the web, answer e-mails, watch a few on-line videos, etc., you will want a completely (well, very different) system.
