  3. Yes Tom, I've used PDF to Word for a number of years. The newer version 3.0 is a bit slow compared with v1.4. Though v1.4 saved it as an RTF file and you just used Word to convert it to a doc file.
  4. Hi gandorwig. You didn't have to reinstall anything. You could have started your computer up in Safe Mode and do a System Restore. So you've had this computer for 4 years and you've never done a System Restore? All as this does is restore the registry, it doesn't add or remove any files.

    Adobe Flash

    Apart from CCleaner and Recuva.
  6. Welcome to Piriform Barry. I get that message but I don't have admin rights on the machine I use it on. I've posted a question about this a few weeks ago but no one has replied.
  7. Welcome to Piriform JJHerbal. If you click on the Check for updates... at the bottom left it will check which version you are using and tell you if you are running the current version or not.
  8. Ok then how about putting a help button in CCleaner. It would be coded so it checks for the existance of BeginnersGuide.chm in the app folder. If its there then open the help file else show a messagebox BeginnersGuide.chm not installed. I have CCleaner and Recuva on my desktop and I also have short-cuts to both help files. There shouldn't be a need to have extra short-cuts just for help files. Come on Mr.G.
  9. The fact that CCleaner doesn't make the BeginnersGuide.chm help file beats me. I know they have an online help link but that?s assuming that users can get online for whatever reason. I make programs and I would never distribute one without the accompanying help file. The BeginnersGuide.chm is only 65Kb so that isn't going to increase the size that much. I don't know if CCleaner don't approve of the BeginnersGuide.chm but its made by TwistedMetal a moderator here.
  10. He can't find Windows Explorer not Internet Explorer.
  11. Welcome to Piriform marv. How many anti-virus's are you using? You only need one else they will confict.
  12. I don't I use the registry because I can save my own reg file of all the settings. The problem with CCleaner.ini is if CCleaner doesn't find it in the app folder when it starts it uses the registry. If it does find it, it uses the CCleaner.ini settings. When you first use CCleaner this file isn't there. When you select this option in Options\Advance it creates a new CCleaner.ini. Just watch the CCleaner folder while you click this option.
  13. Well this will depend on which version of Adobe/Macromedia Flash you have installed. Go to Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash folder and count how many ocx files you have in there. This will vary depending on what you have installed. Flash.ocx, Flash9d.ocx or Flash9e.ocx. If you want to update your flash then you can download from Adobe Flash Player Support Center A word of warning go to Add/Remove programs and see if Adobe Flash Player ActiveX is listed. If it is then uninstall your version first. If the uninstaller doesn't work then you can download the uninstaller here.
  14. No not really because I make my own programs. Plus I think you'll find that WinXP updates its own clock if your connected to the internet. I use Win98SE so that doesn't work for me. No its not stupid question.
  15. Hi Dancer. Well thats where you are going wrong. If you uninstall CCleaner before you install a newer version then as you say all your settings will be lost. Just install CCleaner on top of the last one and your settings will be retained. You can as suggested use the ini options where your settings are saved to the CCleaner.ini file.
  16. Hi Jim. I'll make you an app that will set your clock if thats all you want.
  17. Cookies are text files. You won't get back your recently typed URL's those are stored in the registry. Unless you do a System Restore to a date before you first used CCleaner.
  18. Welcome to Piriform Zipper. You could try running Recuva before these files are overwritten.
  19. I use FileHippo's download and there is a Yahoo checkbox option when you install but I never use it.
  20. Grisoft have a forum. Try a search or post your problem in there.

    Adobe Flash

I've had problems with Flash player only on one site only so I downloaded the update from here and just to make sure the uninstaller from here.
  22. Just checking the file at dll-files its an older version so try this one. Shlwapi.zip
  23. Welcome to Piriforum Marie. No CCleaner won't delete files like that. What I would do is a file search on your hard drive for SHLWAPI.dll. It should be in you Windows\System32 folder. If it isn't on your hard drive then you can download it here. Unzip it into your Windows\System32 folder then register it using Run: Regsvr32 SHLWAPI.dll. Try everything again to see if the error returns. Just as a matter of interest, which virus checker are you using? Does it run all the time? Is it up to date? Have you done a full virus check?
  24. Not really, he must be using the same software that I've been using for 5 years. Uninstall Manager 4.3, doesn't appear to work on Vista yet. The name is a bit misleading because it doesn't uninstall anything. It tells you want additional files have been added to you hard drive since the last check. You can set it so it ignores folders that are always being updated e.g. Temporary Internet Files, Cookies and Recent documents. This way you know if something has been downloaded of the web without you knowing about it. You just send it to the Recycle Bin and you can delete the files later. You can also do a system restore at the click of a button. Ok my virus checker. For 12 years I've been using McAfee in its various versions, 4.5, 6.01, 7.01 and 2006 10.0. I could download and install the updates as regular as I wanted too. Then last October when you downloaded and tried to update you get the message back can't find any McAfee products. So I bought McAfee 2006 v10.0 and installed that thinking it needed a newer version, no the same error came back. So I downloaded AVG Free Edition 7.5.488, uninstalled McAfee. Installed AVG and downloaded the latest update and did a full scan. It picked up a virus (I can't remember the name or type) that I had in a zip file. Now this is something that McAfee couldn't find. I downloaded AVG Free Edition 7.5.518 recently, just thought I would update to a newer version. Installed it and downloaded the current updates and let it do a full scan. This time it would scan for 5 minutes or so then and error message some conflict with kernel32.dll. I did a reastrt and ran it again and after about 5 minutes the same error came back. So I uninstalled it and put 7.5.488 back in and it runs without any errors or conflicts. Now I never have my virus checker running all the time because they use up a lot of resources. I was on the web the other day, on a serial number site and it said it needed to download an ActiveX so the page/site would work. I clicked Yes and it did something for a few seconds then carried on. I get a popup from AVG said a virus spotted in Temporary Internet Files and it removed it. Now if the virus checker isn't enabled in any way how did it pick this suspect ActiveX up? So for me I would recommend the AVG Free Edition, exellent. P.S. Have you every thought who is making these viruses? I know the obvious springs to mind the bored student. To me these are probably being made by the virus checker companies, that keeps them in business. Don't you find how quick they find a solution or an update for a particular virus as soon as a new one comes around.
  25. Well igonzi I use CCleaner at work its been installed for many years. I forget the actual verion number but its something like v1.17.567. As you can see from the number its very old. As for getting our IT techs to install the newer version is like getting blood from a stone. There were bugs in the older version that I didn't like so I zipped up the CCleaner folder at took it to work. I unzipped to my own folder and it runs sweet as a nut. Now I always use the registry to store the info this is because the older version didn't have this option. The only difference you are going to have is with this info. If your using the CCleaner.ini in the application folder then would have thought that it will alway use this. The settings in there will be used on any machine you are going to use it on. You will have to give it a try, just put the CCleaner folder on a flash drive and run it from there.
