  1. You can install CCleaner to any folder you want too. The default folder is Program Files\CCleaner. Win98, have you thought of getting Win98SE? I would do a search on eBay they are quite cheap on there.
  2. Welcome to Piriforum Laurent. I think the last two versions of CCleaner need Unicows.dll. When you install it, as you say it puts Unicows.dll in the CCleaner folder. You can put a copy in your Windows\System folder if you want to. But if no other app needs to use it then why bother. You don't have to register Unicows.dll. I use Win98SE and its always worked perfectly for me. Try an uninstall then reinstall CCleaner.
  3. Thats the same link I've posted Davey.
  4. Welcome to Piriform flashrtp. Well this is something I haven't bothered to try out. Open CCleaner and click on Options - Settings. You see Secure Deletion at the bottom with two checkboxes saying Normal file deletion (Faster) and Secure file deletion (Slow), select which method you want to use. Put some old waste files in Documents and Settings\yourusername\Local Settings\Temp folder. Do a clean if you don't already use Recuva download it and install it. Run a scan to see what files have been deleted. Have your files you put in the Temp folder been seen? If so then put some more files in there and select Secure file deletion (Slow) in Options, do another cleaner and check Recuva to see if these files are still recoverable again. You just beat me to it anonymous_user.
  5. We had a similar question the other day. CCleaner - Recent docs not deleting. On my older version at work 1.17.094 where I don't want my recent files deleting it does delete them. P.S. I asked the IT techs to update mine to the latest version. Their reply: The newer versions do delete the recent files if ticked and they don't if they are not ticked.
  6. Well I've never tried that way to do a system restore. Its normally in Start\Programs\Accessories\System Tools - System Restore. I believe you have to set this up to use it on WinXP. What I would do if I were you is have a search around here you can always join and ask this question on there. They are very good in sorting Windows problems on there.
  7. Ok guys, here is a little app that I made for checking available memory while different apps are running. It will always run on top of all other apps so you can see whats happening. It won't tell you what is using the most memory you will have to use Task Manager for that. Its made with Visual Basic 6.0 so if you don't have Msvbvm60.dll in your Windows\System or Windows\System32 folder then you can download the basic runtime files here. Edit: I've made a little mod to Memory Checker. Before it would show the total bytes of memory e.g 130,468MB I've rounded this of to 130 MB and added Memory Free on another line. Memory_Checker.zip Memory_Checker.zip
  8. Every Windows system has a System Restore. What OS are you using WinXP?
  9. Welcome to Piriforum Thom. Just do a System Restore to a date before you first used CCleaner.
  10. Welcome to Piriform LiMillr. The save cookies function is an excellent idea. If you use a lot of sites that need a username and password to use/enter the site it saves you remembering them. I use 50 different forums so its useful for me to save those sites in the Cookies to Keep list and just delete all the others. Why do you find it difficult to save your cookies?
  11. Hi davey. What I'm saying is it installed without any problems 3 years ago. Nothing as changed hardware wise since then so why won't it install again? I've tried to get help from here but it asks for the WinXP product indentification number which I don't have because it won't install. Yes I know I need a new computer but I want to overcome the problems with WinXP first.
  12. Hi Vic. Thanks for your reply. Also, I do have to commend you if your system info is still current, then you have the patients of a Saint. No I haven't tried to decompile CCleaner. I know people won't admit to this even if they are asked here. I've decompiled hundreds of VB apps (read signature) but not VC++. Thanks for the M$ link, I've re-registered regsvr32 rsabase.dll Yes my system spec is still correct. I posted this yesterday saying why I'm not using WinXP.
  13. I ran CCleaner the other night and I thought I would just run an Analyze to see what was there. It ran for a few seconds then came back with a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error. Program C:|PROGRAM FILES \CCleaner\CCleaner.EXE R6025 - pure virtual function call and it crashed CCleaner. I ran it again but did a normal Run Cleaner and it cleaned ok. I was just wondering what this error message was refering too. I'm using CCleaner 2.06.567
  14. 1. The CD isn't damaged in any way I've only used it half a dozen times and I'm very particular how I handle CD's. 2. I have two CD roms and it doesn't install of either. 3. I had 256Mb of memory. I replaced those with two more 256Mb sticks to 500Mb thinking it could be a memory problem but that made no difference. I've posted this problem on other Windows problem forums but no one can give me an answer. Microsoft are a waste of time. To report a problem with WinXP you have to have XP installed so you can quote the installation number.
  15. I tried it for 3 hours last week and its still s***.
  16. I bought WinXP 2002 3 years ago, installed it tried it out for a week, didn't like it so Win98SE went back. Last year I decided that XP would have to go back and for me to get used to it. I tried to install it again but it kept on crashing with the blue screen of death while it was trying to load the basic files before installation. I mean it installed perfectly 3 years ago and nothing has changed on my computer. Microsoft are no help what so ever with this problem. As for Vista, I tried it out on a friends computer last week. I didn't like how this works, so to me Vista is a load of s***.
  17. Well I have CCleaner 2.06.567 and I have my MS Office ticked but its never deleted my blocked senders in all the versions of CCleaner that I've used.
  18. Welcome to Piriform pluto. The idea behind Recuva is to recover files not delete them.
  19. Welcome to Piriform edclombe. I've asked this question before and no they aren't making a Win98SE version.
  20. Welcome to Piriform John. Well if you create the reg file for the points it removes from the registry. You could always start your computer up in Safe Mode and Merge the reg file back into the registry. This is a very unlikely event to happen with CCleaner but the reg file is your backup. You haven't said which Windows operating system you are using?
  21. I've used McAfee in its different versions for 12 years without a problem but when it wouldn't update I switched to AVG Free Edition. AVG picked up on a virus that McAfee couldn't find, so AVG is great and McAfee is s***. I think you'll find that all anti virus apps use a lot of system resources. Why do you need them running all the time, I don't. If you have a suspect file or download then check that file for a virus.
  22. As davey says Online FAQ canorro.
