englishmen
I currently use SyncBack as my backup app but was wondering if anyone is aware of any other free alternatives. Also anyone know a way i can automate 7-Zip to compress a folder at a set time, thanks.
Moderators hazelnut Posted January 10, 2006 Moderators Share Posted January 10, 2006 Not really sure what you are backing up englishmen, but I use this power tool, synctoy http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&DisplayLang=en. I can back up all my music and photos etc with 2 clicks ( after setting up the folders). It is the easiest thing I've ever used. A few different options are available, I chose echo as i wanted the files on my external drive to be a mirror of the files on my c drive. Moderators Andavari Posted January 10, 2006 Moderators Share Posted January 10, 2006 For backups I use a homemade batch file that automagically copies with verification. A batch file can do some powerful stuff like delete junk files beforehand either by specifying what to delete or by calling CCleaner.exe /AUTO, virus scan, Contig, etc.
Eldmannen
Depends what your needs are. Right-click on folder, and click "Compress to archive" once in a while, shouldnt be all too difficult.

Greenknight
I thought this one looked interesting, but I've never tried it: Karen's Replicator http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptreplicator.asp
englishmen
Thanks for the suggestions, i was hoping to automate the backup of selected files/folder to a single compressed file to another drive.

Has worked great so far.

Karen's Replicator does make automatic backups. I don't know how you'd go about automatically compressing them, maybe you should ask Karen .
