Moderators mta Posted July 19, 2015 Moderators Share Posted July 19, 2015 in my experience, removing MSOCache doesn't ALWAYS kill Office, and when it does, starting one of its programs (usually Excel), it'll automatically do a "Please wait while components are installed" process. but it is certainly not advisable to remove it unless you have a legit reason - like very low disk space. it's one of those just leave it alone sort of folders. Backup now & backup often. It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. You control the last. 4uTVyZIXNN
We can qualify as "junk" activities (activity files *.FIT) that have been removed from the GPS device but the Garmin Express software keep a copy for synching later with myGarmin web site. These files should not appear anymore as they have already be processed.

jwilkinson
I'm new to the winapp2 stuff, but was looking at adding cleaning of MRU lists on Beyond Compare (scooter software) to CCleaner. You have a Beyond Compare (aka BC) entry in winapp2.ini now as so... [Beyond Compare*] LangSecRef=3021 Detect=HKCU\Software\Scooter Software\Beyond Compare Default=False FileKey1=%AppData%\Scooter Software\Beyond Compare*|*.bak;BCCommands.xml;BCSessions.xml I see two problems here. First, deleting BCSessions.xml would delete all user-saved sessions (compare setups). I don't know if you intended just to clear the auto-saved sessions or what, but this would clear user settings that they might want. Second, the definition above wouldn't clean out BC's MRU lists. (path history, etc, clear for privacy) Hopefully Scooter software will add a feature to let users clear these MRUs, but in the meantime, you might consider whether to also delete the BCState.xml file, or the MRU entries within it. BTW, does CCleaner have the ability to delete specific nodes or branches within an XML file? Or can it just delete the whole file? Thanks, Jeff

Sadly it can, currently, only delete the whole file. The developer made mention of working on the ability to remove specific lines from XML and ini files a few years back, but never (or rather have yet) actualized this into CCleaner ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. jwilkinson
Glad to help. I have a question in on the scootersoftware.com forum to make sure deleting the whole BCState.xml file won't break anything else, but I think it is mostly the MRUs, plus maybe window positions. No answer from them yet. Too bad about the XML. That would be useful in cases like this, where you could be a lot more specific. One wish I'd have since playing with adding winapp2 to ccleaner, is some more info on what each entry is doing, what kinds of things it is deleting. I know you can select an item in CCleaner and run analyze and see the things it finds, and that helps... I guess I wish for more human-written descriptions of what the files are, what is being cleaned. It would help decide what to clean or not. Yeah, I know that would be a huge job to add that kind of detail, and to maintain it, even if CCleaner had some data fields to use it... so mostly wishful thinking I guess... ;-) later, jeff

It would help decide what to clean or not. While I wouldn't suggest that this goes into the community file, what you could do is: create a warning line on each entry letting you know what was cleaned (either in plain human speak or as a listvof files per your taste) however you would only see it when you placed a checkmark in the item's list. ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark) ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T. jwilkinson
I have a question in on the scootersoftware.com forum to make sure deleting the whole BCState.xml file won't break anything else, but I think it is mostly the MRUs, plus maybe window positions. No answer from them yet. Um, in quick testing just now it looks like deleting BCState.xml may delete other settings that could be a problem for users, or at least annoying. It was ok on one PC I tried, but on the one here it made BC go thru it's first-setup-wizard after deleting BCState. So, sigh, better not add deleting BCState.xml to winapp2.ini yet. nuts. (You probably want to reconsider deleting BCSessions.xml though) This is where having CCleaner be able to remove specific bits from XML files would be real handy.
