Moderators Andavari Posted September 17, 2020 Moderators Share Posted September 17, 2020 Currently secure connection on MVPS.org HOSTS File fails, it works in-secure at: http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm That's possibly why it has also been failing to update in uBlock Origin for a day now. nikki605
Strange. I tried to update using HostsXpert like usual and I get an error that says it cannot connect to the website. I'll have to try again later. Win10 Pro x64 Desktop (Speccy) - Win10 Pro x64 Laptop (Speccy)

Probably the HTTPS issue that comes and goes on there for the past month or so, i.e.; if the site doesn't work try in-secure HTTP. Actually it's also been happening to some subscriptions in ad blocking browser extensions.
nikki605
I think the URL to the MVPS website is coded into HostsXpert. Not sure I can change that. I ended up doing it manually. It's the suggested app on mvps now. bottom of the page https://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm sadly hostxpert is dead and funkytoad is a whole different thing now ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. nikki605
That's why I didn't use hostman years ago. How do I disable that "feature?" Also, the hostman version on the MVPS website is: HostsMan_4.7.105.zip I found that I had an old saved copy from 2019 that is a later version: HostsMan_4.8.106_installer.zip I'm not sure which to use. Moderators Nergal Posted November 13, 2020 Moderators Share Posted November 13, 2020 weird, mine looked fine (sorted alphabetically) maybe it didn't actually load the new one, i'll have to try wiping to original file then download again from hostman ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Moderators Andavari Posted November 13, 2020 Moderators Share Posted November 13, 2020 They way it jumbles the hosts file together was instant in my case years ago when using it. At least it used to do that (don't know about newer or current versions) because on the two or three separate occasions I tried it over several years I couldn't put up with the mess it makes. My thoughts were it may possibly make a hosts hijack difficult for anti-virus/anti-malware to detect, and practically impossible for an end-user to find if looking through the hosts file with a text editor.
