Grayleaf
Hi everyone, I got some great help getting rid of some nasty spyware on my gaming computer,..now im wondering if you can help out again,... I told my friend about how you guys helped me and he told me about an embarassing problem he now has..and so i figured maybe someone could help. Heres the ProB-BOB....sorry, an old inside joke,.. My friend was looking at porn one night and some kind of internet traffic thing took him to some nasty nasty nasty web sites....i think you know the ones....anyways,.....his wife knows how to find out the websites that have been viewed, but he doesnt, he deletes the history and everything but somehow she can still tell every site, time and date....creeeeeeepy. So, here is what he's needs,. COmplete erasing of all internet pages visited, etc etc etc. He seems to think she knows how to get into MS-DOS or something and find the files on the hard drive..,...i dunno, im just the messenger... THanks for any advice you might be able to share. My buddy is always in the doghouse so i'd like to try and save him from a few nights in the oven.. Humpty
So Grayleaf, your mum is able to find the sites you have been visiting. Yes there is a way to get rid of everything.
JDPower
So Grayleaf, your mum is able to find the sites you have been visiting.LOLYes there is a way to get rid of everything. Unless of course she has some software installed logging visited sites and automatically emailing a summary to her or keeping an encrypted log somewhere
craigathus
So Grayleaf, your mum is able to find the sites you have been visiting. Yes there is a way to get rid of everything. Hi Humpty If Grayleaf has "CCleaner" and has it configured right, wouldn't that do the job for him? http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds http://www.piriform.com/docs http://www.postimage.org/
Humpty
Recuva would probably bring them back up, even after a secure deletion as well maybe? Haven't had a need to try Recuva so don't know it's capabilities. Probably has a keylogger installed.

If so he could get rid of it Maybe he needs to post a HJT log in the appropriate forum. http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds http://www.piriform.com/docs http://www.postimage.org/
JDPower
Keylogger = spyware? If so he could get rid of it Yes keylogger=Spyware but not necessarily malware. It could be a trustworthy keylogging program being used to monitor what he's doing for a genuine reason (ie to check he's not going on sites he shouldn't). Even if he removed the program the person monitoring would know it had been removed.
lotse
If his mother is checking that carefully he must have a record of dodgy surfing. As mentioned above, removing any keylogger implies guilt and will more than likely upset mother even more. Like wise having a PC that is scrubbed clean everyday is bound to raise suspicions. In my mind there are only two options: 1. Don't surf for porn 2. Tell your friend to get his own PC and internet connection. He should listen to his mother
Glenn
What security software is on the PC? As an example, Norton Internet Security with default settings will log all internet activity (IP addresses and times). I don't think CCleaner (or any other washer) will clean the log if "Turn on protection for my Symantec product" is enabled ... which is the default setting. CTskifreak
Most people aren't tech savvy enough to install a program such a website tracker, but unless this woman has some serious trust issues, she might have. AJ
